Last Notes npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…nlhz Great overview, thanks. The one grep command I use quite a lot, and is probably very similar to `project-find-regexp`, is `vc-git-grep` which mimics `git grep` and will search for text in your current git project, while respecting the contents of the gitignore file. That is really useful for something like Python projects where you want to search *.py file, but usually not those in the installed packages. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry For #homeLab and #SelfHosting people, I have a question - and that's when do you feel ready to make something available on the open web (even just hosting a static site)? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry At pick up today Child A was busy reading some of the magazines they have lying in the school's play room. I really hope they don't ask for any of the toys in the adverts for Christmas, I think they'll be very hard to find... npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Looks like I've got at least one overflow problem. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…vf35 Oh dear. My best wishes to both of you, wishing you much strength and a speedy recovery. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…vf35 don't know if it helps, but on the instance I'm on @nprofile…hl5m 's first tagged toot appears in the tag feed: https://social.lol/tags/freebsd npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Child A (who has been reading a lot of #Asterix #comics recently): What ... What is Gaul called now? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry The existence of marshmallows implies the possibility of forestmallows and plainsmallows. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Child B: "Why are people happier the smaller [younger] they are?" npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Harvested the last couple of buckets worth of #apples from the trees, washed them and put them on shelves in our basement. We'll see how long they last. I'm not sure our basement is really cool enough to keep them for a long time, but perhaps long enough to cook/bake them into something. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Went on a little #boat trip on the #river Schwentine, which flows into #Kiel, with the children today. Nice and quiet; saw different birds, some Nutria (aka a coypu, or in German Biberratte [lit. Beaver-Rat], which does look like a cross between those animals) and some turtles sunning themselves. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry My wife spent the last few hours putting together some furniture, so I'm now working to earn my keep by #baking an #apple cake, using some of the many many apples our two trees have produced this year. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…x759 I think for a lot of cyber security risks, it's not the company that suffers the most. Rather their customers or employees through leaked data etc. If that's not something where they have to pay a lot of compensation or have high remediation costs, perhaps it makes it less attractive for a lot of companies? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…t4qe I personally think the most interesting question is: What theme does your host naming scheme have? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Pretty leaf, with some incidental background #Mosstodon . npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Just carried a 500 GB #backup disk to work, for offsite safe keeping, in about 40 minutes. I think that means me and my #bike have a transfer speed of 1.6 GiB/s. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…wd6q if I am the host? 😬 npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Is it appropriate to drink beer at a children's party? Asking for a friend. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry About a month ago I repotted the Basil as it was starting to look sad again. Happy to report that all 5 plants made it and seem much happier. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I may have spent this month's pocket money on some internet silliness. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv That's great. You're right, I'd be better off explicitly deciding not to do particular projects, instead of feeling guilty about them. I have so many half started, and even more ideas, that I'll never get around to. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Tonight nothing is certain, except that there is Death #Metal and scanning documents for #Taxes npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Child B projectile vomited, shortly after eating a banana, in the downstairs bathroom. They were standing on the little step, so managed to get a nice high angle and good coverage. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry So, finally going to try #Qobuz as a #Spotify alternative, after *checks notes* 16 years. Current Transfer Status: npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…z99j I always think of Armadillos when I see a Daim bar, and the other way round. (Applies to the words too, I don't see that many real armadillos.) npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv Yeah, I was also really sad when he died, and l never got the chance to see him live, which is a big disappointment. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry It took a fictional death and a mix tape for me to learn who Tom Petty was. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I picked up a cheap little second hand laptop today that I want to turn into my 'travel' laptop, after browsers have become unusable on the old one (which only had 2GB RAM). npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv it's just TOO good. (I'm not even saying I make a particularly good chili, it's just naturally so moorish.) npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I...have...eaten...too...much...chili... npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv Well *I* do, I'm not sure everyone else does. Perhaps I learnt it from Sesame Street? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry ⚡ npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv I remember one opening up like 15 years ago in Bristol, and me going in and being utterly confused by the selection. Was in clothes, gadgets, decor, ironic tat? I found it very erratic and it seemed very fad based, so I'm really confused that it's still a thing. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry It's strange going into the city after not visiting regularly, to see which shops still exist, and what new ones there are. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…5at5 I don't know where I'd get a complete list, but based on what I could see in Wikipedia's '1990 in music' as releases: npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…zvdk 🤯 npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…zvdk @nprofile…xlhv Sweet merciful giant hair, how did we forget her? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…zvdk The amount of smoke on Total Eclipse of the Heart is insane. It makes Bat Out of Hell (disqualified, 1977) seem tame in comparison. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…zvdk I'm not sure, but this has to be a high contender: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGNiXGX2nLU npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv TIL that Free Fallin' had a music video, and that the video is so painfully 80s. It's one of my all time favourite songs. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Belugaaaaaaaaa npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Rummages in loft, finds the old WWDC filter, and puts it on for a week. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…tc60 That new Pelican record is good though, better than I'd hoped for a band that came out of hibernation. Also sounds very obviously 'Pelican' in a way I'm not able to explain. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I don't think there's enough said about the fact that a job that is advertised and recruited for, is only what the hiring manager *thinks* the job is, and in reality the role may be very different. Just in case anyone was feeling out of place recently. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv Yeah, they're a little more expensive here. You can get two packs, but they'll be rock solid. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv I suspect avocados are a lot cheaper where you are. Here we buy them individually, not by the bag. That's one reason why I wasn't going to let this go uneaten...too expensive! npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv it's not something I eat often, today could well be only about the 4th time ever I've eaten it. Normally we buy the avocados for salads or making guacamole, but it was starting to go off. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I'm eating avocado toast for lunch. And as an elder #millennial, there is no food I feel more conflicted about. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Cheese is amazing. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry A technical error occurred while you tried to report another technical error with our website. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…zvdk Yeah, I do wonder if there's a practical size limit on a social media network, before it falls apart at people actually being able to talk to each other in a civil way, and recognise the other participants as real people. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…zvdk I was never on twitter, but I wonder if part of the reason why it worked well early was just that there were fewer people on there, rather than now? I mean still millions, but not *everyone*? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Child A was very proud of their little #Lego scene of someone running away from their out of hand camp fire, and the fire brigade comes and puts it out. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…zvdk I have to say thank you for your recent run of #Blog posts, I feel we're being spoilt. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Sometimes I'm happy to tinker with #HomeLab stuff, and other times I just want it to work when I thought it'd be a quick job. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I just mistyped "Whanks for the help" in a chat, and have never hit an edit button so hard or fast before. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv Actually, I might be wrong, it might only be 4 years old. I registered a .net variant of my main domain, thinking I might use it for some experimental projects or some self hosting thing, but haven't yet. I thought I registered it at the same time as the main one. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv *Only* the third year? I've got domains that are almost old enough to drink waiting for their day in the sunshine 😅. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…zvdk On the other hand, there's no one there to say no to anything... npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…x759 I seem to remember using quite a lot of shampoo bottles for my terrain, good a sturdy. The results were always Head & Shoulders above that of my friends. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv Thanks. I found the original on SoundCloud and have secured a copy, in three locations including an off-site back up! npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Not me, frantically searching the internet for the original MP3 of a very specific version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star that one of our children likes, so we can play it offline when we can't stream the YouTube looped version. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Today's least exciting status update: Your replacement vacuum cleaner battery will be delivered tomorrow. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I'm soooo hungry that I keep 'taste testing' the chili I'm making, and there's a good chance less than half of it makes it to the table. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Ohh look what came in the post! npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv Belated happy birthday 🎈🎂. Hope you had a great time! npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Good news, the #basil is looking *much* happier since the last update (https://social.lol/@hl/114131721669954039). npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…zvdk I hadn't heard of Cloth before, but now they're on the @nprofile…xlhv hype machine I'm all ears. Sounds good, I'll probably give them a few spins today. I'd put them somewhere between Beach House and Glasvegas, which isn't a bad place to be. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Wait, so #Meta donated $1M to the current US Administration, and when it came to using an unofficial chat app, they didn't use #WhatsApp or FB Messenger? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv Yeah, that's the problem if you have a country founded by religious extremists: tendency to take written words too literally, weird prudishness in talking about sex, and a lack of rude place names. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry New #ConspiracyTheory just dropped: npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv That's a good try, but when it comes to rude place names, I'm afraid the UK has you beat: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-58229967 npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I'm an Engineer, not a child npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Everything about the alignment of this toilet is distressing. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Ten minutes ago the conductor on our #train asked for a doctor, or any medically trained person, to coach 14. Now they just asked the policeman who's travelling on the train to the same coach. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry I do love chili. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry So the #Basil was doing ok, and trimming the top so it splits and becomes bushier also shorter...but now the lower leaves are yellow and sad, plus there are grey patches on them. What have I done wrong here? Too much water, too little, too much sun. Some kind of mould or fungus? I haven't added any fertiliser, so it can't be too much of that. Any #gardening people got any tips please? npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry Child A: Papa, when I burp I can taste Fanta again. This is amazing!! npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry So tired. Tonight's plan is to lie in bed, watching videos until I fall asleep and drop the phone on my face. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry The weather's turning nicer, so Child A has started drawing outside with chalks again. Today we got The Mallard, their favourite #SteamEngine. npub1pcqzuur0khc827hyqgj8h682fm8eptzpke5l39lvchg9y7ydll3qq3eg2f Henry @nprofile…xlhv @nprofile…zws2 @nprofile…zvdk I have a friend who has an Amex card with which, in theory, he gets points/cashback.
