I have found a bug in orly that makes the database go fubar - relay brain dead. Happened by accident since I use a shitload of orlys as lightweight sandboxed relays for agents to run integration tests. So yeah, be humbler buddy, I may hand a report/fix over to you when I got the time to do it

The issue is the monopoly. You can pay weekly to your local mobster for protection and it doesn't mean you are happy with it.
Back when systems were not online, there was risk and the fees kinda made sense - insurance. Nowadays, most systems are online, making risk way lower while fees are not.
No worries, alternatives are already a thing and their hand will be forced.

Buddy, I don't know you and you don't know me yet here we are.
I am an empath and it hurts me to see you hurting.
You can never have full control of whatever happens around you but you do have the power to control how you feel about it.
Don't rationalize. Assimilate, introspect, feel - but, in conscience with clarity. Practice, work hard, on yourself - like you do with your trade already.

The left-right itself is a battle of yesterday already. The extreme polarization is a symptom of its decay. Populism on steroids driven by social media in tandem with a decrepit journalism class are the tools of the trade.
At this rate, all I see retiring before the next 60 is democracy.

Hacking bits and pieces from meshtastic's firmware is most probably the fastest way.
Meshtastic is currently using cheap esp32 which act as interface between end device and the LoRa radios. The meshtastic app uses the radio via the esp32's bluetooth or wifi. Serial over usb also works. Some people use card radios like the t1000 magsafe'd to their phones, which is cool. I am sure these things will become smaller and smaller in the coming years.
If the transport layer for bitchat becomes fully agnostic, this can be easily prototyped. Logically, making this work over LoRa, which has a very low bitrate and hourly frequency utilization limits, would pose some interesting challenges.
Let me know if you find this interesting, I'll gladly help hacking the firmware and testing it with the radios

This is great! Ever heard of LoRa radio and/or meshtastic? Bitchat's protocol looks vastly superior, especially because of cache/announce/tx by design - really cool.
Unfortunately meshtastic is too tied to mqtt but even still, there are huge meshes running worldwide. Would be cool to have this working over LoRa just for the kicks

Was a joke, because, yes, they should be.
The protocol is just not there yet so all you can do for now is a shitload of requests and be a database, which in itself is funny.
Rest assured, as more use cases that make this kind of filter needed arise, the protocol will have to adapt to it.
There is some motivation behind the current limitations tho. In my opinion, useless efforts of premature optimization that resulted in limited database querying capabilities, which in turn limits possible use cases which ultimately limits growth.
No biggie, this journey is just starting. We'll get there. Keep building 💪

This. A HAOS VM saves you a lot of hassle. If running a dedicated VM is too much for your hardware, just install the HAOS directly. It's debian anyway so you can use it for other shit

Full circle back to "embeddings". On a serious note though, vector proximity is super poweful and fast af. Especially powerful when combined with vector averages. I have been experimenting a lot with nostr and achieved great results when I average the vector representation of a note with the vector representation of all replies. My next experiment is to have different average weights based on "reply relevance" which can be defined in plenty of different ways.

Meh, I would say you try and convert/get the font in a web friendly format before importing. WOFF (first version without compression) seems to be supported or OTF

2025-05-17 17:46:24 GMT

- reply

For all other fonts, Photopea allows you to open them (TTF or OTF files) the same way you open any other file (File - Open, or drag-and-drop). They will be added to the end of the font list and used, when some type layer needs them.
From the documentation. Doesn't work?

While clever, we are still optimizing database logic at the protocol level.
Anyway, we can keep a small int kind for CORE event types. My argument is against the rest of the bloat which will never be enough.
Nothing stops a relay backend from pre processing mimetypes and translating each - for the ones that have indexing interest - by using an unique small int. Neglectible pre processing overhead.

Nostr kinds: early optmization syndrome
We WILL run out of kinds and then there will be proprietary kinds like 42069 primal bs giveaway. So retarded.
What was the point? Save some bytes? There will be fighting over nostr kinds. The sooner we abandon those, the better.
An m ordered list field with "mimetypes" that would be handled as CSS does with fonts - fallbacks.
[nostr/hyper,nostr/note, ..., text/plain]
Clients/Relays handle/index however they prefer. Voila

Hey @nprofile…pyug can we have an option in amethyst to not integrate video playback with android when one leaves/backgrounds the app?
I find it anoying that when I get into my car, some random video - probably the last it played in the feed - starts playing in loop, forever, until I stop it.
Yeah, android integration is nice but this is not the intended use. Make it persistent only when user interacts with media, like play button, fullscreen or whatever or allow auto play without this integration. Doing this for every little video on the feed's autoplay is just not cool.
Thanks!

The simplest argument that can be made is: If someone uses the blockchain to store internationally criminalized porn, we're all in possession, even if tenporarily. It doesn't matter if we're running knots or whatever node that muh "filters". Elaborating:
1. To filter the mempool, you first need to receive the transaction and, while in memory until you discard it you're in possession.
2. A block gets confirmed with said contents. To validate the block, you need it in full, at least in memory, therefore you're in possession.
3. You store the full blocks - you're in possession.
4. You don't store the full blocks - you're no longer part of the bitcoin network.
Only paid shills and balls deep crypto bros believe this is good for bitcoin.
You can argue that: it didn't kill Ethereum. Right, because ethereum is a setback to bitcoin's purpose itself.
THIS CAN AND WILL BE USED TO TRY AND KILL BITCOIN - It will be nothing but yet another setback. We will prevail ✌️

This might have to do with memory from your previous sessions where you may have biased is somehow to say something that once was acceptable but in this context ain't. Not sure if there's a place where you can clear the memory, try telling it to forget everything you ever said or something. Anyway, openai models are getting worse and worse, just move to an alternative, you're missing out

The NIPs are retarded, not the people who built the platform. One does not need to be retarded to come up with a retarded idea. All it takes is ignorance.
I am sure that we, the real retards, will be able to, in time, iterate and make the protocol better. For the time being we are just digging deep, testing shit out, ranting away to let other retards feel less alone while forcing us all to think about better approaches. Power to the real retards

Other planets can share the chain but can't mine it. They can send their tx to earth and someone will eventually include these in a block. There goes the decentralized nature 😂
A tangle like chain tho, like IOTA, could work for interplanetary stuff. Food for thought

Say I am connected to wine and some other shitty relay I once trusted. This shitty relay gets compromised and sends me a NOTIFY invoice to pay for my wine subscription.
It is then up to the client's implementation making sure to properly inform the user which relay sent the NOTIFY.
If the NOTIFY message is exactly the same as the one I am used to getting from wine, I may fat finger it.
Also, while difficult to achieve, man in the middle attacks can also exploit users into paying for nefarious invoices.
This is a cool feature but sounds dangerous without relay key/signature in place.
Am I getting this wrong or time for a NIP for an extra relay trust layer which is not handled by transport/os?
