Entitled younger white Euros/North Americans who thought they could just work or beg their way across a country. At the time I was shocked. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…nrlp Poor Jeff is scared. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Boxcat thinking about the injustice of his humans not giving him treats even though he's being so cute right now. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…p6sd Go look at wastewater testing where available. The COVID pandemic did not end, it's just that people decided to believe the "back to work" politicians who said it ended. There's also more and more people with long COVID, which wouldn't be happening if the pandemic was over. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Boxcat on his natural habitat. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff I'm expecting dictionaries to have the following entry soon. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Emergency responders shouldn't be forced to play nanny for self-driving cars. Any of them that misbehaves should be impounded and the company responsible for these cars heavily fined (not returning the car until fine is paid). Any vehicle with multiple violations should be confiscated and scrapped as they've proven to be unsafe. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff "Sunny day npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…e4ry When a kitten yawns. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Boxcat's sleep is guarded by the household goddess. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Really hoping the 2025 Time Person of the Year is the protest frog. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff I started watching hockey in the 70s and lived near Montreal at the time of the Canadiens' greatest dynasty, this goalie being one of the biggest reasons for their success. RIP Ken Dryden. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…0ftr Even naturalized citizens are often guilty of looking down on other immigrants this way. (I know you know this, but anyone else reading the thread may not - I wish quote posts were already implemented so I wouldn't be annoying you with obvious stuff). npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Fascists, fascist enablers and bigots are joining up to oppose Zohran Mamdani's bid to become NYC mayor. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Boxcat sleeping as he understands that we all need some rest these days. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Sure, why not. I'm all for edible bricks of pretend food like spam and this one will at least be interesting. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…fzew It helps explain why Trump wants to annex/invade Canada. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…8x2j @nprofile…2jfw The move isn't about technical excellence, it's about national security - you can't depend on applications controlled by a hostile state (including companies who obey that state). So LibreOffice's failings don't matter as much - even if MS applications all became ten times better, it wouldn't matter anymore. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…q7f5 The third person is Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez from district NY-7. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff On any account I see being unironically wildly optimistic about LLMs, I just add a note saying "LLMist" and block. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…kvnh npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…p5j8 I've been on a couple of urban foraging tours by a local guide. It won't allow me to survive a catastrophe, but it did change my gardening habits, like what I'll choose to grow and what I choose to not remove (wood sorrel, an edible plant native to the area - used to just yank it out and now just let it grow). npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…wuyc I agree in the sense that the NDP is barely distinguishable from the liberals in terms of policies (which is a shame, I liked the NDP way more when they were at least left-leaning). But they may not have the numbers and the Bloc almost certainly will. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…wuyc More the Bloc than NDP this time around it seems. It wouldn't be the first time the BQ would have the balance of power. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Propaganda works because if a lie matches what you want to believe, you will not only agree with it, you will share it. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Lapsed catholic here. I still have a lot of issues with the Church, but I view Frank with the same esteem I have for Roncalli: both imperfect but good dudes who nudged the church in a much better direction at the dismay of conservatives worldwide. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…args Did you just watch PBS eons? npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff The small town when we first meet the kids of SC looks like a suburb designed by Robert Moses. It's awful and soulless. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Canadians uniting against a credible threat from the US government is a good thing, but I worry it's going to turn to xenophobia against anyone not seen as a "real" Canadian, against indigenous people and immigrants (especially non-white ones). npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff If you had told me that many Canadians would welcome Canada joining the EU just last year, I probably would have laughed. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff This is from 2006: Using N-95 masks to protect against bird flu. History repeats, so mask up. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Stay vigilant. Be like Boxcat. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Hey fellow white people who aren't Nazis - being angry is okay, just remember to punch UP. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff As someone who learned programming in the early 80s on very limited machines (RAM measured in kilobytes, 1 MHz CPU), I had to learn to be careful about wasting memory and CPU cycles. This has served me well over the years as I always kept a close eye on optimizations. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Yay, it's 2025. May this year suck less for you than you expect. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff When immigrants who had to do their immigration paperwork with little to no help from immigration attorneys tell you it's a very difficult, long and expensive process, maybe believe them/us? Becoming a legal resident who's allowed to work for any employer (or themselves) is by no means an easy series of tasks, especially if you lived in more than one country. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Boxcat accepts and cherishes all boxes regardless of shape, color or size. Boxcat does not discriminate. Be more like Boxcat. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…ps99 Scatamucci? npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…asy0 Yes - Canada Post should agree to the workers demands immediately. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @nprofile…args @nprofile…ze6a Ten Ren in Flushing has a good selection of teas, that's where we go for our better teas. Since Ten Ren is from Taiwan, their oolong selection is specific to the island nation (and also very good). npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Boxcat rival in his most natural state. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff I do miss good tagine and merguez. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff I don't often name places to eat, but if for some odd reason you're in the Broadway-Flushing neighborhood in Queens and crave Taiwanese food, Noodle Lab is a great place and reasonably priced. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff As someone who's been broke when younger, repair and reuse was always the default behavior for me; it was actually easier to do decades ago as things weren't as badly/cheaply made and somewhat simpler. But it's still doable often enough. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff I am an adult. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Just spent an hour in the garden weeding. Looks nicer at least, though my back is sore. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff In a few weeks, going to New Orleans for the first (and possibly last) time - we planned a trip before for the month of May, but it was May 2020 so that didn't happen. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @npub1zdp…vqv8 sorry, it was an attempt at levity by bringing up a silly duck-themed cartoon character. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff @npub1zdp…vqv8 Instead of scary, let's get dangerous. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Anyway. Eat something good today. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff We learned this week that our favorite and close-by Sichuan restaurant is closing on Wednesday. Going there tonight one last time for delicious and tongue numbing food. npub1pf5u5vwe4zs4rnavhd8ysp2eg2ny2ncd45wfrcr3mhc7uwvxu44qs2exay Bridge&Tunnel Jeff Regarding cooking for those with limited skills (like me): Instant Pot FTW.
