This image keeps popping up since decades but I've always thought it's really stupid.
The two foods serve different purposes.
A beer in Germany costs less than a bottle of water and no one says "there is a problem with the system!"

I really hope for some more effort from simplex devs, there are dozens or maybe hundreds of issues on github without any meaningful answer. Looks like they are very understaffed for such a project

That confirms the fact they don't bruteforce the PIN.

2024-10-29 20:15:57 GMT

- reply

It doesn't work like that.
The PIN on latest Pixels works like the PIN on hardware wallets with Secure Element. The encryption key is not the PIN. The key is protected by the SE and the PIN is used to ask to the SE for the key. The SE avoids PIN bruteforce.

We should not. It's not wealth like Bitcoin, it's the ability to publish one's thoughts, so it shouldn't be given to anyone else.

Big point in favor of Nostr success here.
To avoid physical attacks, majority of bitcoiners keep their interest private. Rightfully.
With Nostr you can go around with a Nostr T-shirt and have orders of magnitude smaller concerns.

It all depends on the format you play.
Modern costs a lot and the power creep is huge, it forces you to spend $$$ almost every year.
Forget Legacy.
Pauper costs nearly nothing but you have to like the playstyle.
Commander I don't know I don't play it.
Advice: Pauper is OK; the rest is wasting money, just play with proxies with friends at local small stores which allow them.

@npub1730…9yky
Your idea is cool. I've used it a bit. But maybe you priced the service having in mind power users or performance-intensive operations.
If you use it just for simple talking like majority of people do with chat-GPT, it's too expensive IMO.
The mean cost for a simple conversation of 3/4 questions-answers
appears to be around 0.10$ in my case using the cheapest model.
10$ for 100 simple conversations.
They end pretty fast.
I know you have to make some rightful profit, but GPT-like simple conversation agents are becoming more and more like a commodity.
I think it's overpriced. My 2 cents.
Good job though!

Has anyone already implemented a GPT-like service payable with #Bitcoin Lightning?
I think of a VPS with Ollama as backend and to use it you have to pay some sats per-request or per-month.
Imagine having the frontend chat inside a #Nostr app and being able to pay and use it with just a Zap.
You can view a list of public servers and choose the one you want to use based on the price they ask or other properties. So there could be a market of them.
Inside an app like @npub12vk…pugg, which already has builtin Lightning wallet capabilities, it would also eliminate the need for the user to have an external wallet, reducing friction even more.

Many of the things you state are difficult to verify, therefore difficult to discuss.
I hope you'll be able to publish some of your own research. The privacy community would benefit a lot.

Thank you.
The paper focuses on the fact that when using webmail the Proton server could serve you a malicious client-side code and steal or misuse your key. But all web apps have that problem.
Since Proton has implemented their "one-password" login, the PGP key is on the server, encrypted using your password salted+hashed. That means Proton could try to bruteforce it. But it also means man in the middle attacks are avoided.
I would call them tradeoffs, but I wouldn't say their implementation is fundamentally flawed or insecure.

"Protonmail is creating their private key on their end and then giving it to you."

"your private key in their web app, that's cloud to cloud"
Not necessarily true.
The fact it's a web app doesn't mean private key leaves your device.
Code is open source for you to see. You don't trust they run that? You can always inspect what happens client-side.
I'm not saying I did. I say strong claims need strong evidences.
