This was huge, this Godley and Crème song, and my friend Dave had it when we were at art college and we used to play it on his record player and I took the piss out of the lyrics #TOTP

yesterday or the day before I was idly thinking about The Shamen as I was walking along in Stratford, basically because the other weekend I got down from the attic my very old Zoom 9000 guitar effects, and am now thinking of getting rid of it because it basically makes the guitar sound the same on all the presets, and it’s the same sound as the preceding Zoom 9002 had, and that’s the effect that whatshisname from out of The Shamen used, through drum-triggered gates, to get that Shamen sound.

no more than usual during the entirety of my career, it was always antagonistic, and I hated the so-called “fact” that stupid computer programmers with no taste or sense of style could be paid more than I – I found this intolerable and infuriating to the point of being dangerously hostile to other people working around me.
I even at one stage marketed myself as a programmer out of anger (on the basis that I’ll pick it up on the job, I’ve seen enough people do that in the art and design world), and never ever got any interviews. This made it worse, I then just absolutely wanted to kill all computer programmers because they shouldn’t be being paid more than me for a lesser and lower task.

most of my morning has been watching YouTube reviews of the Zoom Livetrak L6max vs Tascam Model 12 (there aren’t any, just one or the other), after the past few weeks of Boss BR-80 vs Tascam DP-006, also Zoom R4, also Tascam Portacapture X6 vs X8, and so on.
None of which I will buy. I’ve decided over the weekend to eschew [1] multitrack thoughts, and return to the mindset I had in the late 90s which was run enough synths to do all the possible tracks I want, and use a midi-mute mixer (Tascam MM-1, still have one) to cut channels in and out, while I twiddle the knobs on the synths as they go along, all of it going direct to stereo DAT master. I think this was the birth of my ‘no-post-pro’ motto or ethos, just do everything live. This persisted into my video days, almost everything I did on YouTube was needlessly a livestream from the ATEM, because I’m buggered if I’m going to come back and edit it and then upload it, it goes out exactly as I did it first time.
[1] word that is never heard coming out of a person’s mouth, only experienced by reading it

looking at the list of songs, the first one is familiar, the others are basically nonexistent, never happened, nobody has ever heard of them, and are probably made up, or they were from another country.
We in the UK are reliving the 2000s on Friday night on BBC4 Top Of The Pops, it is being replayed and we’ve just begun into the year 2000 a few months ago, so we’re on the 2000 journey, all of us, re-remembering stuff we thought we’d never have to hear again, every Friday night into the foreseeable future. #TOTP

I’m very much into synthesisers, as most of you know. However, historically, I know nothing about any Roland synth with a J in its name, I wasn’t interested, I lost interest in them at that point, my attention moved away from things like that. At that time I was far more interested in Yamaha’s FM synths, which justified my interest, whereas any of the ‘Jupiter/Juno’ synths were simply organs to me, for entertainers, not experimental synthesists. When I say ‘entertainer’ I overlap that with ‘musician’, as I’ve never considered myself to be either of those.

it’s probably not the fault of patents in this case, it’s bad naming of the Linux driver – Wacom should be within a more encompassing graphics tablet thing, but it looks like Wacom was what the most encompassing graphics tablet thing got called

for so long all the competitors were just shit. I don’t think that’s the case any more, though. I’ve been Wacom-only since the very early days but maybe I should try some others now that there’s many others, but which are the ones to avoid.

I predict that all the AI makers will magically tranform into Quantum computing organisations, in doing so they’ll attempt to blur the two things together so that within a short time every time AI is mentioned Quantum computing will also be mentioned, and I predict that within a short time someone somewhere will hear or read the phrase “Quantum AI” and think it means something.

I wanted one of those back then. I ended up with a VL70m but that ended up never being used apart from one saxophone preset which was perfect when driven by guitar synth midi output, but the editing software was what stopped me finding it useful later in the 21st century so eventually I got rid of it. The AN1x would have been so much more useful from the start. Don’t they have some sort of reliability flaw these days though? I can’t remember what the problem was, some physical thing crumbling or something.
