podcast listeners are sending me 100k-300k sats/month, nostr zaps are probably at 5-10% of that today… but i don’t have enough data to be sure about the nostr amounts yet, could end up being much higher or lower over time.

Looks like there are roughly 7,000 zaps/day on Nostr according to Nostr Band.
A few related LN numbers:
- WoS does ~20k LN payments/day
- In the summer, Breez was doing as many payments as WoS (~10k/day)
- River’s LN nodes process ~4k payments/day
One interesting note is that Nostr activity hasn’t meaningfully changed LN public capacity. There does seem to be more payment activity though, so maybe node operators are earning more from routing fees.

I hear you, and there is a big difference between paying prior to consumption and paying after consumption.
However, these are all still Lightning payments attached to content and we have a handful of words that refer to the same actions.
Do you believe that converging on one term is important? Or is it ok that we use one word for podcasts, one for nostr, etc?

i would love to see the whole industry gather around a single word to describe sending someone sats for their content.
podcasts use boost (which i like), sn uses tip (which i don’t like as much), and afaik nobody is using zap yet (though i like the simplicity of the word).
