This is just a teaser for a proper lesson on how to play RL Burnside’s classic Mississippi Hill country blues, See My Jumper Hanging on the Line. When I do the full version, I’ll zoom in on the right hand, so you can see exactly what’s going on, and how the index finger plays the syncopated note. Also, I’m going to get the percussive flick a bit more prominent – as I say, this is just to give you an idea of what’s coming. I’ve got the telecaster out, because this is what RL plays on one of the two field recordings you can find of him playing this number on YouTube. #bluestr #guitarist #guitarlessons #guitarlicks #guitarriff #guitartutorials #acoustic #acousticguitar #fingerstyleguitar

This lick is a satisfying run up and down the fret board, using repeating motifs in different octaves. As this settles into the muscle memory, you’ll find you can use momentum to get up to those high notes. I think I play the slowed down version slightly differently from the full speed – but it doesn’t matter. There are so many variations you can use on this one. It’s in the key of A. Here’s a new series - Delta Kid: Essential Finger Exercises. The first half of this one’s loosely based on a Billy Strings run, and the second half is standard bluegrass runs in three positions up the neck. A good one to get the fingers moving. Recorded this in a car park. Keep your guitar with you, play while you’re watching TV, play while you’re waiting around. As David Crosby said, that way you get good. This is Muddy Waters’s Standing Around Crying, the full song, minus a few seconds at the end, which crossed Instagram’s three minute limit. If anyone gets to the end, maybe I ought to enter their name into a raffle 😂. Nah, on second thoughts, I’m not doing that. So here’s a version of Nobody Loves You When You’re Down And Out - with a new Delta Kid solo. I’ve included a slowdown version of the song and the solo, if you’d like to learn it. This needs a percussive flick of the wrist for the rhythm, and some quick changes of chord. Bessie Smith made this song famous in 1929, and Eric Clapton popularised it in more recent years. So here’s a lesson on R. L. Burnside’s classic Going Down South - see my reel with vocals a few days ago. In this one, I break down the two parts of the riff. It’s in standard tuning with the capo on fret 7 - this is the same key as the electric version you can find him playing in a 1974 Honkytonk on YouTube. Today’s lesson - slipping n’ sliding 😁 This one’s all about adding value to each note by avoiding playing them straight. It’s hard to sound distinctive if each note is unchanged in some way. You can use vibrato, damping with your right hand, and different levels of attack – but one of the things that the great acoustic blues players tend to do is slide up to and down from notes and chords - like I’m doing here. See what you think, and have fun! #bluestr #guitarplayer #guitarist #guitarlessons #guitartutorials #guitarlife #acousticguitar

As you say, given the centrality of technology – especially military surveillance technology, which was so central to previous Congresses (three of which I spoke at) – the effective silence and quiescence of the CCC in the face of the Gaza genocide - the world’s first AI genocide - has made them completely irrelevant to the most urgent tech issues of the day. This is both sad and ironic.
