I am an expert in dealing with media and information.
I know how mass media works, who owns it, how narratives are created, how to recognize framing and reinterpretations of terms, and how opinions are shaped as a result.
And by the way, no, you don’t become a media expert through unbridled media consumption.
This involves finding, making available, and verifying information; filtering out the irrelevant from the essential; and designing information flows, for example, within companies. Today, this is referred to, among other things, as data management. It also includes simplifying technical jargon to turn information into actionable insights.
Compiling dossiers and conducting research are also part of the job description.
In other words, among other things, what a fact-checker does today—only in a professional capacity.
That makes me a generalist, not a specialist.
My specialization is bringing information together in such a way that it becomes usable.
And that can look completely different depending on the subject area and the user—that is, the target audience.
So I’m no expert in IT or the financial markets. Five years ago, when it came to crypto and Bitcoin, I knew about as much as any ordinary self-employed person—someone torn between family and business, between marketing, fulfilling orders, and bookkeeping.
So I know the situation, the reality of life, and the challenges that come with self-employment. And I know the level of knowledge and the information landscape in which most people operate.
If Bitcoin comes up at all, it’s usually mainstream information focused on price—preferably falling prices—and risk. In other words, information that’s more likely to be discouraging and overwhelming.
And I know that if, for example, you run a carpentry business—and on top of that probably have a family—you certainly don’t have time to teach yourself to become an IT security or financial market expert on the side.
Especially in German-speaking countries, the information landscape is really very sparse, and on Facebook, for instance, you quickly risk censorship and account deletions when discussing crypto topics.
And it’s really striking, the sheer volume of information about Bitcoin as a store of value or speculative asset. The constant repetition of narratives like “Hodl” and “Never sell,” while you have to search high and low for information about adoption.
The term “adoption” itself is already misleading. In German, “adoption” refers to an orphan or a stray dog.

“Bitcoin acceptance” would be the more accurate term—assuming you want to be understood.
The problem of incomprehensible jargon continues when it comes to the technology.
Software developers have developed their own language, just like crypto enthusiasts—a role they often fill simultaneously. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as it facilitates communication among experts within the field.
But even the best tool is of no use to anyone if the potential user doesn’t even understand what it could be used for. We haven’t even gotten to the “how” of using it yet, and the customer is already gone.
The possibilities and opportunities offered by Bitcoin as a means of payment or Bitcoin acceptance are therefore completely unknown to an estimated 99% of all business owners. This starts with the differences between various digital currencies.
Yet it is the self-employed in the small and medium-sized business sector who ultimately support and keep society running.
That is why my project “Bitcoin Acceptance for SMEs” is aimed at business owners and the self-employed.

Ich bin gefragt worden, was mich eigentlich zum Experten für „Bitcoin für KMU“ macht?!
Mal abgesehen davon, dass das Wort „Experte“ in den letzten Jahren an Status stark verloren hat, bin ich Experte für Informationen.
Ich bin Diplom-Mediendokumentar. Nein, ich drehe keine Dokumentationsfilme.
Ich bin Experte für den Umgang mit Medien und Informationen.
Ich weiß, wie Massenmedien funktionieren, wem sie gehören, wie man Narrative erzeugt, erkenne Framing und Uminterpretationen von Begriffen und wie dadurch Meinungen erzeugt werden.
Und nebenbei, nein, man wird nicht zum Medienexperten, durch ungehemmten Medienkonsum.
Das umfasst das Finden, Verfügbarmachen, Verifizieren, unwesentliches vom wesentlichen zu filtern, das Gestalten von Informationsflüssen zb in Firmen. Heute nennt man das u.a. Datenmanagment. Dazu gehört auch die Vereinfachung vom Fachsprache um die Information zu einer umsetzbaren Information zu machen.
Das erstellen von Dossiers und Recherchen gehören ebenfalls zum Berufsbild.
Also unter anderem das, was heute ein Faktenchecker macht, nur in qualifiziert.
Das macht mich zum Generalisten, nicht zum Spezialisten.
Meine Spezialisierung ist Informationen so zusammenzubringen, dass Sie nutzbar werden.
Und das kann je nach Themenbereich und Nutzer, also der Zielgruppe völlig anders aussehen.
Ich bin also kein Experte für IT oder den Finanzmarkt. Vor 5 Jahren hatte ich in Sachen Krypto und Bitcoin den Informationsstand eines ganz normalen Solo-Selbstständigen, den es zerrissen hat zwischen Familie und Firma, zwischen Werbung und Ausführung der Aufträge und Buchhaltung.
Ich kenne also die Situation, die Lebenswirklichkeit und die Herausforderungen, die Selbstständigkeit mit sich bringt. Und ich kenne den Informationsstand und das Informationsfeld, in dem die meisten sich bewegen.
Wenn Bitcoin da überhaupt vorkommt, dann Mainstreaminformationen, die sich auf den Preis, bevorzugt auf fallende Preise und das Risiko beziehen. Also eher abschreckende und überfordernde Informationen.
Und ich weiß, dass wenn du zb eine Zimmerei leitest, und obendrauf wahrscheinlich noch Familie hast, du mit Sicherheit keine Zeit hast, dich nebenbei autodidaktisch zum IT-Sicherheits- oder Geldmarktexperten weiterzubilden.
Speziell im deutschsprachigen Raum ist die Informationslage wirklich sehr dünn und zb bei facebook riskiert man mit Kryptothemen schnell Zensur und Accountlöschungen.
Und es ist schon wirklich auffällig, die Masse an Informationen über Bitcoin als Wertaufbewahrungsmittel oder Spekulationsobjekt. Die ständige Wiederholung von Narrativen wie „Hodl“ und „Never sell“, während man Informationen über Adoption mit der Lupe suchen muss.
Alleine der Begriff „Adoption“ ist schon irreführend. Im deutschen versteht man unter „Adoption“ ein Waisenkind oder einen Strassenhund aufzunehmen.
Bitcoin Akzeptanz wäre der eigentlich korrekte Ausdruck. Vorrausgesetzt man möchte verstanden werden.
Das Problem unverständliche Fachsprache setzt sich dann fort, wenn es um die Technik geht.
Softwareentwickler haben eine eigene Sprache entwickelt, genau wie Krypto-Enthusiasten, was ja oft in Personalunion einhergeht. Das ist ja erst mal nicht schlimm, solange es Kommunikation untereinander innerhalb des Fach-Informationsraums ermöglicht.
Aber das schönste Tool nützt einfach niemandem etwas, wenn der potentielle User nicht mal versteht, wozu es dienen könnte. Da sind wir bei dem „wie“ es zu nutzen ist noch gar nicht angekommen und der Kunde ist raus.
Die Möglichkeiten und Chancen durch Bitcoin als Zahlungsmittel bzw Bitcoin Akzeptanz sind also geschätzten 99 aller Unternehmer völlig unbekannt. Das fängt schon an bei dem Unterschieden zwischen verschiedenen elektronischen Währungen an.
Die Selbstständigen des Mittelstandes sind es aber, die eine Gesellschaft am Ende tragen und am laufen halten.
Deshalb richtet sich mein Projekt „Bitcoin Akzeptanz für KMU“ an Unternehmer und Selbstständige.

Every piece of software should go through such a process. It seems to me that developers and users have drifted very far apart linguistically. Most of the time, the average person can't even see what it's for. And the information about how and why doesn't reach them at all. There used to be a profession called "Diplom-Dokumentar" (graduate documentalist). They specialized in this. But such people are hard to find.
