As everybody knows, content discovery on Lemmy can sometimes be a bit tricky.
To help smaller communities to get more activity, I launch this thread for people to promote the communities they are active one.
One important criteria: please only promote communities that have been at least one post in the last 7 days. And if there is none, feel free to post there and then promote it here!
This could be a weekly thread, but let’s see how it goes

If at some point there is too much content (which would be a nice issue to have ha ha), we can always split communities later.

The only successful example I found the other day was [old.reddit.com/r/FloatingIsFun/](https://old.reddit.com/r/FloatingIsFun/ ), now [[email protected]](https://fedia.io/m/FloatingIsFun )
If a few other communities could move over there, that would help make the platform more active.
There is a banned subreddit that recently moved here (I won’t mention it to avoid them getting raided, but if you browse All you probably know which one I’m talking about), that was very interesting, and some proof that the current tools (the websites, the mobile apps, the interfaces) could work for people outside of the usual “tech / Linux / FOSS” bubble.
What do you think?

I know, and that’s great! Lemm.ee, feddit.de, feddit.dk, feddit.it and all the others are great!
But on that topic, that still brings us to the question of “should an instance with a country TLD be limited to content of that country?”
Someone on Lemmy.ca brought that point up a few days back:

So that comes back to the point I mentioned above. When I created [[email protected]](https://lemm.ee/c/yurop ) on lemm.ee, it was obvious that it wasn’t going to be limited to Estonians.
However, when a community is created on feddit.uk, it can be centered on a local approach to a thematic (such as [[email protected]](https://feddit.uk/c/nature ) ). Which is great, but as I said, we are probably still very early in the stage of having different dad communities on Lemmy, so having mainly one (whatever instance it is on) might be more effective for activity

[[email protected]](https://lemmy.ml/c/europe ) is a community that follows lemmy.ml political stance, and [[email protected]](https://lemm.ee/c/yurop ) is a more laid back community. But for a general news-focused Europe community, [email protected] seems like a solid choice for now.

I feel like people already see me around a lot, I would avoid being “overexposed” if that makes sense.
Maybe someone with less activity on Lemmy would be better for that job?
At the end of the day, it’s mostly to discuss with you guys how to present things to the audience, and being more present when issues like the CSAM issues arise, potentially even switching priorities to convey the message to the community that this issue was serious and that you were aware of it.
Again, I’m not saying you guys didn’t do anything, but as always, it’s mostly on how to communicate in a situation rather than having a look at what was done or not.

We discussed it a bit and are trying to focus more on movies content right now. Of course, television content is also welcome, but we got a few comments in the past about it being “off topic”, and there is enough happening on the movies domain to keep busy with that.
Another topic is that [[email protected]](https://lemmy.world/c/television ) seems unmoderated, but I guess that’s the best we have at the moment.

I see where you come from.
That’s why I try to keep both [[email protected]](https://lemm.ee/c/yurop ) and [[email protected]](https://lemm.ee/c/casualconversation ) active, while they have more or less the same topics.
Some communities are made to be “Internet inclusive”, some other are more “location grounded”
I guess sometimes the Lemmy population is not large enough to have “location grounded” communities, so it might be better to merge into the “all inclusive” one
Last point: as a non-native European, I never really paid attention to the English-speaking social media being very US-centric, hopefully that’s a bias we can correct here on Lemmy.
Lemmy.world is the biggest instance and managed by a team located (at least partially) in the Netherlands, so that’s a nice change compared to Reddit

Funding isn’t that high, they launched a funding drive in October:
