I've, thankfully, kept my Vivaldi instance going so that is most likely where I will move to because, honestly, I have no idea where else I would go where I would be allowed to post about multiple subjects. Follow me there if you want to or, you know, don't. If folks don't like what I post, they can simply skip over my post or just block me. It's really hard to offend me.

Recently, I've received a few messages (one rather rude) from fellow fosstodon users asking me to stop posting about anything not related to FOSS. Specifically, related to politics and bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure. That's fine. I will do just that.

I'm leaving the @npub1j7t…kn6q instance. Here's why:
I post A LOT about FOSS, Linux, BSD, Open Source Software and policies, and privacy/security. With that said, I also post some, but not a lot, of political, bicycle infrastructure, pedestrian infrastructure information, and even sometimes about my veganism and animal rights work. In all honesty, with the current political issues here in the US, it's hard not to post about it. 1/4

So, I have an application that I use on a daily basis. There is a .deb and .rpm of the application that was created by the company but they don't do a great job of updating the Linux versions of the app and it's always missing dependencies. I know some openSUSE users that can't even get it working on their distro. I've been thinking about creating a Snap of the application but I'm curious if there are any legal issues that I should look into before doing this? Honestly, I have no idea. #snap

For a few reasons that I won't really get into in this post, but I've had a few performance issues that even their support hasn't been able to help me resolve. If the news is true that Bitwarden is moving away from being Open Source, this will be very disappointing. I really like 1Password but moved away from it because it's not Open Source. There are a couple of really good password managers out there. The main reason I'm using @npub1ajf…rx6k is because it's "supposedly" Open Source (and very convenient to use). One of the reasons I left Bitwarden was because of a bad tech support issue. As much as I wanted to stick with an open source solution, after the incident, I just couldn't stay with them any longer. I've moved to 1Password (not completely open source, of course), but the support team is excellent.

I really, really like the new release but I can't seem to figure one issue I'm seeing. For some reason, out of nowhere, half of the screen (in Gnome) will change to a different color and the only way I can resolve the issue is to reboot. And the color sort of covers up everything on my screen. It's a really strange issue. And maybe it's a new feature in the latest Gnome 46?

Definitely! I listened to @npub1zqc…nvvp talk about this on, I think, Late Night Linux. Can't wait to get started. 👍

I wouldn't call myself a developer (just someone that knows just enough to be dangerous) and have been wanting to help with an open source project for quite some time. Now that an unfortunate situation has given me a bit more free time, I think I'm going to join the Canonical/Ubuntu Open Documentation Academy (@npub1ttv…t5a7). I think learning how to write better documentation might be helpful in finding a new job and plus, I get to help a great project.
