the iPhone 6 through 11 with the fully rounded off sides made it feel like a bar of soap. Going back to flat sides with the 12 was definitely superior. The 17 Pro is flat sides but the unibody design like the 6 had means they can round off the edges and I find it the best of both worlds. Not a bar of soap, but the edges aren’t sharp feeling in the hand either.

I cannot recall a time growing up where wildfires across Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas were as bad as they are right now. A dry winter season combined with no rain, very high winds, and low humidity turns the Great Plains into a very dangerous place.
The ‘Ranger Road Fire’ has charred a 90 mile line across Oklahoma and Kansas. It has burned over 175,000 acres which to put into perspective is larger in area than Chicago. It is currently blazing at the rate of a football field per second with single digit percentage of containment.

New coins begin to circulate today, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. but all of the ones approved by a committee were trashed by the treasury secretary. So instead, aside from three featuring presidents, there will be this one of two pilgrims.
Originally they were to feature Frederick Douglass, to mark the abolition of slavery. Another would highlight the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. A third coin would have shown 6-year-old Ruby Bridges, to celebrate school desegregation and the civil rights movement.

Apple delays the LLM based Siri because the feature wasn’t ready and the narrative is that the company is doomed. OpenAI burns $70 billion in a single year and the grass has never been greener in the eyes of investors. Make it make sense.

I see a lot of commentary on here from people anticipating the AI bubble bursting so we can be rid of the tech altogether and go back to life as we knew it. The bubble is related to financing, not the AI itself.
When the dot com bubble burst lots of websites disappeared because much of the spaghetti thrown against the wall was trash. As the web matured it became cheaper, more widely accessible, and we learned what did and didn’t work.
AI is on the same trajectory, and it’s here to stay. 🤖

I enjoy using their hardware products, and am quite opinionated about their software design. Both are tools I use daily which I find indispensable, but I am not an Apple “fan”. I am not fooled into taking the marketing department’s campaigns of giving a shit about anything besides money to heart. Meticulous design is a strategy, privacy centric products are a strategy, and doing whatever they need in order to stay in the good graces of governments around the world is a strategy.

How did all of these people fool themselves into believing Apple had morality and backbone before now? It’s a company, not a person. A capitalist entity designed to keep the money printers operating. We are a million miles away from Steve Jobs dropping LSD and walking barefoot around a garage.

I would say the rinse and repeat cycle of gaming Duolingo’s free trials is more enshittified behavior than an app displaying ads to support a massive user base who is utilizing the service at no cost to them. If you find value in Duolingo’s paid version like I do then subscribe. If you’d rather not, or can’t afford it then don’t but don’t act as though the company is at fault. The app leaning on ad supported revenue allowed it to be the sustainable service it is today. 💚
