Friday, I finally beat Super Punch Out for real. At this point, I can Pizza Cake everyone except for the final guy and to be honest fighting him is more of a chore than something I enjoy, so its been shelved. Previously I had beaten everyone but the Bruiser brothers and temporarily gave up, but the game is too darn fun!

So I finally beat Luigi's Mansion. Everyone but me already played it, but basically they gave Luigi a vacuum cleaner that sucks up ghosts like that backpack from Ghostbusters. Its just a fun gameplay loop with creative ghost enemies and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Go emulate it bitch

Megaman 8 was really good, aside from the voice acting. The hallmark of a good retro game is "When the tech and game design improved, would they remake this better? If not, it holds up."
It was made in the mid 90s and yet modern advances wouldnt really improve it, not even the graphics. I do hate that sled section at the halfway point though

I've decided to watch a movie every Friday to clear out my backlog. The first on the list will be Anastasia by Don Bluth.
Basically, Don Bluth was in competition with Disney throughout the 80s and 90s, with important victories but slowly losing. In 1997, he finally gave up and made a princess movie, albeit with more heart.
Anastasia is a princess movie about how she survived the commie massacre and reunites with her Romanovs and Rasputin is the bad guy so that the movie could have a villain.

Metroid: Zero Mission fucked up the ending pretty bad. First Mother Brain was annoying, then your climactic finish ended in a lame stealth section and now I have to do an unclimactic timed run and finish it against the black mantises who absorb all hits. What a horrible ending to such a good game. At least it was a worthy successor to Super Metroid prior to this

Remember, only play retro games that hold up. Super Mario World holds up, but most random platformers don't. Oblivion may or may not, but perhaps you'd prefer Skyrim. Also most of the games from the era of bad graphics improved immediately when they remade them on better hardware, or added QOL.
There are mountains of good content in its original form, but it exists for you to have fun with, you don't exist to have fun refusing modern stuff and subsist on a crappy platformed from 30 years ago

Ditto. Retro ends once there are good 3d games in the early PS1 and N64 era, however the great majority of those games at that time are super primitive, aside from the ones so good that we remember them fondly.
However, Millenials and Xers refuse to acknowledge they're old. So much time has passed that obsolete technology is pretty advanced

Do it man. It is THE gold standard for percolating horror, think like games like Amnesia. Hilariously enough, the makers were inspired by Amnesia and this game went on to inspire Amnesia: Bunker.
The one thing it gets right that no one else does is that they give you a litany of ways to semi reasonably detect that the monster is present and roughly where, the alien's ability to detect you is just really good to offset that. Other games just "Don't die, he could be anywhere"

When Link to the Past came out, some competent producers made games that were kinds knockoffs, but not lazy. Alundra was one of those - though all of them were an interesting concept.
It feels like Soul Blazer and the story is about death and perseverance, whole using cutesy characters and graphics. The fact that they can't always be direct about things mean the work a rounds are bone chilling. Just play it without spoilers, trust me

Are you just going to play about an hour or so and then not stream for a while? If so, you need a game that quickly gives some decent footage and payoff, even if you're interrupting it constantly with the chat. Hollow Knight: Silksong is good, but not retro. Clock Tower is good, but you might wanna quick start. Ape Escape of some flavour, preferably 2 or 3.
A longer experience is different, so let me know if you're going to be more regular

In Silent Hill, some characters are demonstrated to be figments of the MC's imagination that somehow or another help them (cope).
The weird thing is, from a counseling perspective, this happens routinely if you replace "human being willed into existence" with what is called a "healing fantasy" that tends to be more of a thought process or maladapted way of interpreting life. Its offtopic, but it came up and the resemblance is uncanny.

Gonna make my point across a few posts:
So basically, we can all confirm the SH2 Remake was pretty good in its own right and carries over much of what made the original so good, though its definitely a different, separate experience and you must play the original. I would say the biggest differences is that the camera angle changes the encounters, the combat is scary and fun this time and the game is much longer. Also the mannequins counteract the purpose of the radio and fog.

So I finished Parasite Eve or at least the first 4 stages of the final battle and didn't feel motivated to properly finish it after dying near the end. Beating 4 end Game bosses in a row was fun enough and makes me wonder why there are 5 bosses in a row to end the game with.
Overall, its a fun game that doesn't overstay its welcome, with an endboss too long. The plot is dumb and the villain is basically a Batman villain with a mitochondria theme. Give it a play, emulation is free

Forbidden Siren 2, the sequel to (Forbidden) Siren. Its kinda divisive as to whether its an improvement.
Most gameplay aspects have been improved, but now that you can pick up unconscious enemy weapons suddenly beating everyone to death is a viable tactic and it defuses the tension 95% of the time. Your crouch is actually fast now, so its just like Fallout where you're perma crouched until you're in open combat.
It is however, a good game with an area large enough to be a real small town.

I just finished Harmony, a DOOM total conversion mod. I had to tone down difficulty to the bare minimum, but its actually quite fun. Its got a modestly involved story that it fails to communicate very well, but for what its worth, its well made.
I binged on DOOM mods so thoroughly that I gave it up for a long time, now I'm more or less back on other games when I play at all. It was nice to finish this though.
