I'm a security engineer by day and a flop eared husky boy by day too (Sometimes by by night tho ;p). I'm super interested in cryptography, programming, and infosec. Also love going Skiing and Hiking so there might be some of that too. ^.^

Did my first therapy appointment today. I reeellly didn’t want to and was trying to find excuses to get out of it but I think it’s good I did.
I felt kinda silly talking about my problems cuz they don’t really seem all that significant compared to most but I also think that may have helped me contextualize some things and made them not quite so overwhelming.
He also gave me a referral to a LGBTQ+ focused therapist and I’m more looking forward to meeting with them.
I’m hopeful this will put me on the road of getting control over all my anxiety social and otherwise and learning to be ok with being me on my own.

@npub1zuz…m2vc I think dynamically typed languages often let you build and iterate quicker at the cost of long term maintainability.
Which is ok sometimes. I like python for quickly building stuff to talk to/ break un/ underdocumented web apis. Because you can grab and parse some random json response from a REST endpoint and play around with it without needing to first create a perfect struct/ class that has all the undocumented fields in it. I can just muck about in a jupyter notebook until I figure out how it works.
It being dynamically typed also increases your chances that a change to the api won’t bork your script in the case that the change touches something that you don’t actually interact with.
But I’d only do it with small/ medium sized scripts/ programs if it got bigger I’d probably try to move to a language with stricter type checking or maybe adopt type hints.

Bleh, every time I drink alcohol I’m reminded why I don’t really like it. Especially beer, I swear all it does is give me a mild migraine for the rest of the day.
I really wish my coworkers would do something else for their after work team bonding thing but either way next time I’m definitely not gonna get alcohol. Actually maybe next time I’ll sneak off and eat an edible instead. Which, ironically, I could get in trouble with my job for. :blobfoxannoyed:

@npub1zuz…m2vc Netnewswire used to support twitter before they turned down their api, wonder if they could add mastodon as a replacement.
Course mastodon already exposes rss feeds of people’s profile’s so I suppose you could just use that, idk if there’s a good way to login and get one rss feed of everyone you follow tho, that’s what I liked about netnewswire’s twitter integration. Also private posts wouldn’t show up if you used the public rss feeds.

Finally went to the gym in my building after *checks notes* 5 months since I moved in. :vlpn_hide:
I need to make this a habit but I’m sooo lazy about working out for working out’s sake. Like going hiking or biking or hell even going to a rave, no problem thrilled to be there. But going to the gym is such a slough for me. I was kinda able to get away with it before cuz I lived in a situation where I could go hiking or biking on the weekends pretty easily so I stayed relatively in shape but that’s not the case anymore.
I also have a weird thing about feeling self conscious about doing weights around other people which is an issue cuz I’d really like to build up some upper body strength.
Anyways I gotta just do it anyways, there’s no excuse when the gym is literally right down stairs.

@npub1zuz…m2vc Saaame, I love their Fermi paradox stuff and also their vid on Bayes therom.
The ladder one actually really helped with my understanding cuz it had always seemed like black magic before. I’d alway have professors not take the time to fully explain it so it had always been kinda a rote formula in my head.

@npub1zuz…m2vc Hearing about stuff like this is making me want to give linux + proton a chance for my new gaming PC. I have no desire to go back to all the ads and dark patterns after being free of it for so long.

Otherwise It’s got everything: AI, encryption, DNA ,quantum nonsense, implying they’ve broken RSA with no details whatsoever, cryptography via time travel apparently?, and of course *simplicity*.

@npub1zuz…m2vc Reminds me of the time I almost booked an 11pm flight cuz the airline had the genius idea to sort the flight times by string so 11pm was right before 12pm. >.<
