According to the Bank Of England’s Inflation Calculator, UK inflation from Jan 2023 to October 2023 was 4.4%
Ignoring any further inflation until next January, and assuming you’re fortunate enough to be a higher rate taxpayer, if you want to just keep up with inflation, you’ll need a 7.5% payrise (to compensate for that which you lose to tax and NI).

Now’s as good a time as any for any UTXO management you might want to do. However, I don’t buy into the line of thinking that says that in the future any UTXO < 1M sats will be dust — that seems patently ridiculous to me because when 1 BTC = $10M, then 1M sats will be $100K. Fees might rise, but in dollars, not sats. No, I’m driven by the thought that if transacting at today’s value scares the bejeezus out of me, then wondering if my change is going to the right address will damn near kill me in 10 years. I’d rather, in future, have to send several UTXOs to, say, buy a house than have enough change to buy a house when buying a coffee.
Think of it like going to the bank and taking out $1K — you might want 8 Benjamins, 2 Grants, 4 Jacksons and a couple of Hamiltons — you don’t want to break $100 to buy a coffee, but it’s fine to throw down a few $100s for a TV.

According to a currency converter, the ratio of AED to USD, and the ratio of BTC to USD, the price of Bitcoin in AED should be 97632, but on Kraken, it’s 72227. That means I could sell all of my Bitcoin for GBP, convert to AED for near zero loss with my bank, then buy back 35% more Bitcoin with AED. Seems too good to be true. Why isn’t everyone doing that? It would presumably be pretty hard to do without the help of an exchange, unless when you say “money” you’re including stablecoins. Even then, you’d have to make sure they can only be purchased centrally from you or the exchange. Also, you’re not going to get someone who’s made a ton to give back their profits.
Honestly, I get the motivation, but I don’t think it’s workable.

If you’re not sure whether a spot ETF is a good thing, allow me to explain.
Here in the UK, we can’t touch our pension savings until the age of 55. Even then, you can withdraw 25% tax-free but the rest is taxable. So you might have a significant chunk of savings just sitting there not in Bitcoin and not be allowed to put it into Bitcoin.
So let’s say you have £100K in a pension fund — enough to buy 4+ Bitcoin today. Let’s say you’re 45. In 10 years, when you’re 55, one Bitcoin will cost > £1M i.e. by the time you’re allowed to withdraw, you’ll only be able to buy a small fraction of what you could buy with it today.
Now, if there were a spot ETF, you could direct your pension provider to put it all into the spot ETF, thus keeping up with the price action, so when you reach 55, you can withdraw 25% and buy a whole Bitcoin and still have price action on another 3 Bitcoin. At any time thereafter, you can withdraw the 3 BTC-worth of cash, pay tax and buy another 2+ BTC.
This effectively turns £100K to £200K in pension savings into £3M+ in Bitcoin savings.
Who wouldn’t want that?

It’s true that “addresses holding >= 1 BTC” ≠ “people holding >= 1 BTC”, but it goes both ways. Just as one person could have 10 different addresses with >= 1 BTC, there could be a lot of people with >= 1 BTC sitting in exchange wallets. Yeah, I know, in which case they don’t *really* have >=1 BTC, but I think it’s valid enough for stats. Anyway, absent any better data, I think it’s reasonable to assume that the two more or less balance each other out — number of addresses holding >= 1 BTC is a reasonable approximation. In the grand scheme of things, it’s probably a lot closer to 1M than 10M and probably closer to 1M than 100K, and given that there’s 8B people in the world and only 21M BTC to be had, I think that’s accurate enough.
