I actually do. It was my dad's, just something special to me, and I miss him tons. I lost him back in 2016, and it's just my way of keeping him close to me. My cousin Emily makes a lot of handmade gifts, thrifting things and improving on them or making things from scratch, and this bookmark was one of them.

I actually have a podcast with 25-32k listeners, depending on the month. It's called #PandasDen, and I have my own hashtag for it on here. It's a wonderful community that I've built up over the years. I needed something to do during COVID, and this was it. I'll never stop now. It's my favorite pastime.

The urge to rant on here just about the writing community in general is slowly eating away at me. No writers are better than others, not in any way. We're all just writers, published or unpublished, and I'm sitting here saying this as someone who has actually published their work. It doesn't matter. If you write, you're a writer. Period, end of. No such thing as a blunderer, bumbler, non-professional (or amateur, even) writer, just because it's for fun or unpublished. Again, you're a writer. Whether it's a hobby or you're making money from it, whether you write fun fanfiction or original work, yeah, you're still a writer. It's an even playing field, and everyone should be considered equals and treated as such.
Sorry. Thanks for hearing me out. Maybe one day I'll go more in depth about this. But if there's one thing about the #WritingCommunity here it's this: 98% of the writers on Masto are wonderful, lovely to chat with, as friendly as could be, and very talented. They're my friends. The other 2% are awful, conceited, snobbish, holier than thou, and need a reality check. Spread more love. Everyone deserves it, and so do you. You get what you give.

Don't make me choose! I love horror.
It's a toss-up between these two beauties. Read Drood, seriously.

Often, actually. There's a used bookstore in my own that I love visiting. That one's my favorite spot. I also enjoy going to the mall and popping by the bookstores there as well, and I always bring something home with me. There's nothing quite like having a real book in your hands. That's my favorite, even if I also avidly listen to audiobooks most days (while walking, exercising, or good house chores) and read ebooks as well.

I do, and I have. In the world of writing and authors, we tend to write the things we can't find anywhere to read. We put those things out into the universe when we publish (or even just share) them. Of course, I've gone back and enjoyed my published stuff. It makes me feel proud. I've done the same with my stuff on Archive of Our Own as well, on another note. It reminds you of how far you've come, and where you're going.

To be fair, everything's been going really well for me lately. I'm currently working on a story and posting chapters on Mondays and Fridays for it. It's something for the month of October and beyond. Ooky spooky and so me, I have to say.
Other than that, I've been writing other things and posting them as I go along. I have some great friends who don't mind helping when I ask for it. We all do that for each other, so it's very helpful. I'm feeling great about it.
My creativity pops whenever this time of year arrives. It's always been that way.

I write and read Romantasy works on a regular basis, so that one's true. I also adore Thrillers & Suspense novels. As for Self-Help, it's clearly not for me. That's the lie. My life's a mess, so maybe there's no further explanation needed. It's obvious. Also, my AuDHD would *never* allow me to concentrate long enough to read anything from this genre or listen to any of the audiobooks. 🤣

Nighttime is when Alistair wakes up, either in the coffin or bed, and readies himself for the evening. He bathes, dresses, and then goes downstairs. He could settle into the library, get a bit of writing done, spend some time with Hati (or later Fenella), or even head off to a pub from some "drinks" and company. He's a creature of the night, bloodbound, a vampire. During the day, of course, he's asleep.

Alistair is a nocturnal creature. He sleeps during the day. When the morning arrives, just before the sun rises, he goes to the master bedroom and readies himself for sleep. He either tucks himself into bed or the coffin in the corner of the room. It depends on his mood that morning.

(I messed up my thread of posts for the month, but... Oh well.)
It's all writing, and there are many forms it can take. Novels, short stories, poetry, prose, etc. What does it matter? But yes, I think mood has something to do with it. If I'm in the mood for telling stories, that's what I'll write. If I want to dabble in poetry, that's why I'll scribble down in my notebooks as well. The same goes for reading. I'll read whatever I'm in the mood for.

Yes and no. We're talking about Scotland in the 1890s here. There's a plethora of ideas to be found, religious or otherwise. It's a place rich with mythology and lore, but of course you also have Christians and Catholics in the area as well.
In this story, there is no "God" or anything equivalent. It simply doesn't exist. We don't actually know where anyone goes after they die, and I enjoy the mystery of it. The readers don't have to know everything. We only know that if vampires are killed, they don't go to "Hell" because it doesn't exist. They remain in the world, drifting around, and become ghosts. Vampires, werewolves, and other creatures know better. They're entirely atheistic, and they certainly don't pretend to believe in Catholicism or Christianity in order to fit in. If anything, mortals amuse them.

Oh, I've written a lot of horror throughout the years. Usually, there's a mix of genres in the stories I'm writing. Horror and Romance or Horror and Dark Romance are my favorites. In fact, I'm currently working on a Horror-esque story. It's called "Wings of Quiet Longing," and I've been posting about it in the different writing prompt tags.
I *love* horror, whether it's a side-genre or the main one. I'm a horror aficionado and always have been, either for reading *or* writing. It doesn't matter. Films, too. I can't leave those out.

Many things. The changing of the leaves, the scents in the air, and the dying of greenery in the area. Scotland is *beautiful* around this time of year, and Hati is a wolf, meaning that she has acute senses and absolutely adores the scents around her during this particular time of year. Fires in the hearths, smoke around, the scent of the Earth after a recent rainfall, the smell of tea leaves wafting through one's slightly ajar window, etc. She can smell *everything* and more. It makes her feel lighter inside, somehow.

One thing comes to mind. It would have to be the day Alistair became a vampire. As a younger man, he always pondered a list of things that were worse than death itself. There was war all around, and the entire time period was terrifying. If he could have made the choice for himself, it would have been death. It wouldn't have been particularly peaceful, considering what he was dealing with at the time, but he would have found his peace at last. The man who turned him never gave him that option. Isma was selfish, and he wanted a companion.
It was a nightmare. Now it's just his life.

She would be laughing all the while and thoroughly amusing an otherwise miserable Alistair, pleading with him to join her. He would eventually give in, of course. He’s never been able to say no to her. In fact, that image is so cute that I might just *have* to fit this in somewhere. I love it.

In the gloomy streets of Victorian London, a vampire is moonlighting as a vigilante. They seem to be protecting the innocent and punishing the corrupt under the cover of night. But why, and what is it all for?
This is a story of two vampires, former lovers, and the one that was sired. Welcome in Lord Alistair MacKay, the sole owner of Dorcha Castle and a writer and artist in his spare time, his former lover who goes by the name of Fenella, and the one and only man Alistair ever turned, Duncan. The latter is ruthless, and so they bid him farewell a half-century ago, but he’s decided to return. Again, the only question worth asking is why?

I don't have a character limit that high. We've actually talked about this before, too. All I can post is 500 characters, that's all. It's such a miniscule amount and it's terrible. Hence the reason why I always write that something is a snippet and also share the link to said story for those who are curious. My instance has the smallest number of characters for alt-text and I hate it. There's nothing more I can do about it. I'm hoping it'll change in the future, though. Fingers crossed. And hey, you're fine. I never mind your rambles lol.

Yes, he is. And Dante wants the exact same thing, of course. He always has, and that's why he stitches up the wounds of each and every member of their gang. That's how he shows the care and devotion. Same as Alexios, he wants everyone to be alright. He'll do anything he can to help Alexios reach that goal. If you were to ask any of the gang members (who happen to be SCs in this story), they would all have the same answer as well. They care. They'll do anything to help Alexios keep them safe. Dante wants everyone to be healthy and whole. That's what matters.

I don't want this to feel like I'm hashing it out once again, so instead I'll offer a quick explanation.
Dr. Death is affiliated with the Syndicate. They took Alexios' home planet, enslaving or murdering its people, and went on to reap all resources from the planet before leaving. It all happened over the course of a few short days. Alexios, having been augmented for demolition for the Syndicate, managed to escape later. He was the sole survivor. He's the one who got away, so to speak, in Dr. Death's eyes. What he wouldn't give to find him again...

Dante is a confident doc. How couldn't he be? He runs an amazing clinic. When it comes to his personal life, though, he feels as though as he's rather lacking in most areas. It never outwardly shows, but he's insecure about himself in general. Hell, he couldn't even tell the woman he loved how he felt. He STILL loves her, and he's convinced that he'll be taking this secret to the grave. His abilities (workwise) he's fine with. His appearance is also something he's okay with. (He's good-looking.) His romantic entanglements, however, are a different story.
I wrote this tonight to go along with the prompt.

"Oh, right. Insecurity," Dante said, eyeing Junk rather skeptically. "Individuals struggling with insecurity might be prone to anxiety, self-criticism, or comparison to others and will struggle to assert themselves or make decisions. Funny... I'm not sure if that describes you, choom. You're just fine. What are you so worried about, eh?"
Junk chuckled. "Wasn't asking for me, but thanks."
The doc's eyebrows rose. "I'm sorry? Who were you asking for then?"
"You, choom. You. Tell her how you f*ckin' feel before it's too late. This biz is too dangerous. I have eyes, you know. Even if I'm the only one who can tell... It's /obvious/ to me. Say something."

#PennedPossibilities 704 — Share a scene or two with us that you’re proud of writing. (It doesn’t matter what story it’s from.)
I thought this would be a fun prompt for everyone. It's an opportunity to make new friends and meet new readers. I'll share two things here, but they're actually from things related to The Witcher, not my own original work. Writing is writing, after all. I was really happy with the way they turned out. I do love writing a fun fight scene or something rather angsty. I wanted to choose something easier and lighter than my original stories for once.
1.) The first screenshot is from an ongoing story about Orianna and Regis. The story takes place directly after Blood and Wine ends. In the excerpt, Regis notices Ciri is with Geralt as they come to help the two vampires and a moment's shock costs Regis dearly.

Dante chose not to answer a call one night from a number he didn't recognize. It was Noona, and she desperately needed his help. If only he'd answered, things might have turned out differently. She wasn't murdered, but she was seriously injured and found a way to escape from rival gang members. While she forgave Dante, of course, he never quite forgave himself or let it go. He hates himself for it, always will, and he wishes he could forget what happened that following morning. She was rushed to his clinic—Dante's Inferno—and he knees nearly gave out at the sight that awaited him. /He/ was the one to operate on her and he saved her life.

So, I wrote up a new bio so people who use AI know to stay far away from me. It's just theft. I want nothing to do with it, and lately I've had a lot of people follow me who either support or use it for writing or art. It's gross.
Edit: I've had this written very plainly into my introduction post for ages, but none of these people noticed. I'm so tired of it.

Good morning.
I can't believe I have writers club on April Fools' Day. Should I wear a funny hat, or mismatching socks?
I'm about to call the Social Security Office. I'll be hold on until I leave for my club meeting, I'm sure. Then I'll have to hang up. They never answer calls. I'm usually on hold for 6+ hours.
For context, as a baby, they gave my number to the wrong person (to a non-existent Carey, not me, Corey). Then the office screwed up my name and number even worse a few years ago when I went to fix it. I never even KNEW this until very recently, so it's a huge problem. I only have like 40-45 days to fix it. Hm. Cross your fingers for me. I'm sure other Americans would have similar horror stories.

#PennedPossibilities 627 — How does your MC have their home decorated?
Alexios has an interesting cyber-flat. His home is neat, decorated with a few posters from his days playing in bands, and he has a nice bedroom area and a small kitchenette. It's his private space. It's clean, well-kept, and cozy. There's even a sitting room area with a television, sofas, and some gaming equipment for whenever he actually has the time for relaxation. His musical instruments are there as well. Not that he spends much time at home, of course, but he enjoys it whenever he's there.

#PennedPossibilities 625 — How physically fit are your characters? Does it factor into your WIP in any way?
It doesn't factor into the story, but here we go. Here's just a handful of the characters in the series.
FYI: Gang members and those in the criminal world tend to be on the thinner side, only because food with nutrition is more expensive and therefore harder to find (or afford). Cyberpunk works don't feature happy and peaceful worlds, after all.
• Dr. Death (Antagonist / Villain): He's well-toned, nice body. Everyone falls for him. (Yuck.)
• Alexios (MC): He's muscular but also on the taller side (and covered in scars and cybernetic parts).
• Noona (SC): She's scary and intimidating despite being thinner. No one f*cks with her.
• Junk (SC): He's a bit fluffy, on the chunky side, and he's adorable for it.
• Trick (SC later turned MC): He's thin and graceful.
• Dante (SC): He's tall (even taller than Alexios) and slim. Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome in every way. He's in shape.
• Cosmia (SC): Short and well-toned (especially her arms). She works out. Often. Being a bar owner isn't the only thing she does at work. She's also a bouncer of sorts.

Many complications come from bad chips and implants. It can affect the brain in the myriad of ways. Dante's family have suffered a lot in the past, and his father was one such case. The man went insane from a virus on his chip. His mother is still alive and well, though. What's more, since her husband's passing, she's done well for herself. Depression and anxiety also run in his family. Living on Citune, it's no wonder.

Junk prefers knives. He has a set of cryo-blades and they freeze the poor soul who gets stabbed. It'll freeze, burn, and immediately "cauterize" the wound. Fantastic.
Dante is a lover, not a fighter. He's a doc, after all. He's ridiculous whenever he's somehow found himself in a fight, all long limbs and not a single ounce of grace in his body. He manages to stay alive, though. He's the type to choose a frying pan if it's the closest object he can find to defend himself.
Cosmia's a bar owner. An empty bottle works. She doesn't need a weapon, though. Her mouth is more than enough. She'll curse you on your way out of the door. You'll run for your life.

Alexios reads. In his spare time, he likes to leaf through adventure stories. (Romance novels too, but that's something he'll NEVER tell another living soul, not even Junk.) During workdays, he spends time searching (and reading) the system database and combing through the warehouse archives for acquired books and other trinkets. It's all for black market clients, and it depends on whatever they want. Alexios' gang sell antiques and oddities to customers willing to pay for their desired items. If there's something they don't actually have, Alexios and his gang will do everything they can to find it for them. But yes, Alexios enjoys reading in his downtime. Comic books, novels, long or short stories, etc. All from the genres I mentioned as well.

It was the moment Alexios chose life... He escaped slavery, becoming the sole survivor of his planet being destroyed and its people turned into slaves or experiments. He survived. It was the bravest he's ever been. Since then, courage has come easily. He's a man on the run. He's a rebel, a fugitive, a crime circuit boss, a gang leader, a salesman on the black market, etc. Bravery is a must.

Sorry but as a massive wrestling fan, I just have to say... "619! Booyaka, booyaka, that's my pueblo!" God, I love Rey Mysterio so much.
Alexios Jace comes from a planet that I've mentioned many times before called New Glasgow, where a group of people (Scottish families, obviously) left Earth as it was dying and claimed a habitable world for their own. That particular planet was destroyed by the Syndicate, and Alexios was the sole survivor. Now living on Citune, he's the only one with a voice quite like his. He has a distinctly Scottish accent, setting him apart from everyone else around. His slang is a mix of cyperpunk and Glaswegian. While he says "choom" like everyone else, he always throws around "mate" rather easily as well. That's just a quick example. I will say, on top of things, he's always a mardy, grumpy man, and he tends to grumble a lot. His voice is deeper, thick with an accent, and everyone automatically assumes he's pissed off. Go figure.

Dr. Arcturius "Dante" Cason hates when the woman he loves is shown attention from anyone. He would never say it, would never voice the words aloud, but he'll burn with jealousy as he watches on. All of this is ridiculous, of course, because he'll never tell her how he feels... Maybe one day, if he ever gets up the nerve. Until then, he'll just suffer in silence. (Also, I've never mentioned this woman's name here. It's a big spoiler for Book 2.)
As for jealousy in any other way, Dante never experiences it. He's a fantastic doctor and others look up to /him/, not the other way around. "Workplace jealousy" never happens. Dante's Inferno is a med shop that everyone frequents.

Junk is a Master (or Iron) Chef level cook. He's absolutely amazing in the kitchen, and that goes for both baking and cooking. No one makes a better crème brulée. The synthetic eggs he uses are a very high quality as well. (Not a bad idea for us struggling Americans right now.)

According to my girlfriend, for me, it's, and I quote, "Between 2 and 4 am on the night of a Blood Moon every four to eight years." 🤣
Seriously, though, it's usually nighttime. Sometimes I can sneak in some writing in the afternoons as well, if I'm lucky. I've become a creature of habit when and where it concerns my writing. I usually get my best ideas later in the day as well. It works best for me.

#PennedPossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?
I am, actually. I love creating different universes, and this one is no different. When it comes to anything cyberpunk, dystopian, and grungy, whether it's a book, game, film, television series, or a wonderfully-molded #TTRPG, heck yes—it's going to be something that I'll fall head over feels for. The entire SFF universe within this series of mine is a thing that I'm falling deeper and deeper in love with the more that I write it. It's been a long time coming. This book series (and the world within it) started back in about '08 or '09. The result of all that hard work is more than worth it. In short, yes, I'm so incredibly satisfied.

#PennedPossibilities 612 — Has your SC ever snooped in a friend or partner’s house?
Junk snoops around in everybody's home or place of work, not even a gang warehouse or shop. He's subtle about it. He can't help himself. But hey, that's just how he is and we love him for it. He's silly that way. Plus, honestly, as ridiculous as it sounds, he loves learning about his friends or partners.
Dante, however, respects everyone's privacy and never peeks around in any homes or workspaces. Why bother?

#PennedPossibilities 611 — Have you ever been able to relate to your antagonist / villain? If the answer is yes, then how so?
Honestly, I can't. Not even in a single way. Dr. Death is a bastard who enjoys murdering entire civilizations on planets and using "the leftovers," AKA those who somehow survived, for experiments. There's nothing to relate to there. He isn't just an antagonist. He's a true villain.

#PennedPossibilities 610 — What are the most significant sounds we hear in your WIP? For example, it could be the sounds of nature or the noises of a bustling town.
• The sounds of market vendors chatting with customers. Marketplaces are popular.
• The typical sounds of a warehouse.
• Alternatively, I also think of the gang's busy smoke shop or the downbeat of music in the nightclub as well.
• We hear chatter in many, many different languages around the Midnight City. One just gets used to it.
• Fun fact: Alexios grumbles, grunts, and groans a lot. He's grumpy, okay? Miserable choom that he is. (it kind of reminds me of Geralt of Rivia a bit, but only in that respect. LOL.)

Dr. Death told no one about Alexios' escape from the ship. How could he? He had a perfect track record. It would have ruined him. To not only escape but to then disappear completely would have looked terrible for the doctor. It would have been seen as sloppy and messy. In the end, he had no choice but to keep it a secret. One day that decision might just come back to haunt him...
(For context, this happened two-hundred years ago. It's all backstory.)
