RE: https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/@ricardo/117525272393074809
I guess we don't have to wait for official announcement from core #FreeBSD team. It also explains why they wait so long with this.
I am so disappointed 😮‍💨 But not surprised at all.
What is the source of this chart ?

I was going to reply to your post with my own thoughts. But then I saw [@stsp](https://bsd.network/@stsp ) reply, and this thing came to my mind - I have nothing valuable to add.
You two guys summarized todays world perfectly.
Thank you guys for being there somewhere !
Because you guys exist - I'm not feeling alone.

Disclaimer: i'm no youtuber/influencer/instagramer
I asked community two days ago (?) whether someone tried Asus ProArt PX13 with FreeBSD. Apparently not, but I got to play with this machine today.
Well, it's amazing. My Asus Zenbook 14 OLED looks like like poor cousin standing next to PX13. It is full metal unibody chassis (any company doing this nowadays except Apple ?), covered with something that reminds me old, IBM made Thinkpads. Probably not that good but looking and feeling just great.
As to the internals - it is a fucking monster ! It has Ryzen Max 395 with Radeon 8060s GPU. That means 16 physical, full blown Zen 5 cores and 32 threads. No little core bullshit. GPU has 2560 shading units, 160 texture mapping units, and 64 ROPs. You can assign up to 96GB of RAM just to GPU in BIOS. System supports up to 128GB of RAM.
Now the best part - without ANY #FreeBSD optimizations - started from USB NVME, with USB WiFi card connected and keyboard backlight on it goes as low as 9.5W on idle. I guess without these USB devices connected it can easily go to 5W on idle. Maybe even lower.
I got it from my friend tired and scared by Windoze. So I thought I'll switch her to #FreeBSD since she mainly uses browser and office suite. I thought Chromium/Firefox and LibreOffice would be just fine for her.
There are some #FreeBSD downsides of course - no sound ( thought about BT dongle), wifi card has to be replaced with AX210 (she complained about Mediatek disconnecting anyway) and most annoying - you just cannot disable keyboard backlight which just blinks all the time.

Is there anybody out there who tried #OpenBSD or #freebsd on Asus ProArt PX13 ?
It is Strix Halo based machine.

Yes, so:
Starlabs Starfighter AMD is 3250 Euros at the cheapest (no OLED version).
Tuxedo Stellaris 16 AMD (with Nvidia which I don't need) 3471 Euro.
ouch...
And both of them are basically Clevo resellers.

To continue Framework 16 laptop thread - I found below blog post.
Unfortunately not very positive.
I was super excited but now I'm not anymore. I had some great expectations about Framework. Now I'm a bit disgusted when looking at the pictures from this blog post.
I was thinking that maybe Framework wil be better than all those Clevo resellers shouting "we have Linux laptops" but apparently it's not.
Seems like the only option is going back to Thinkpad. Which, in case of AMD based ones, has a Mediatek WiFi that is not supported on BSDs, is not replaceable and is known to be generally shitty.
Cool :)

Anyone using Framework 16 laptop with #FreeBSD or #OpenBSD ?
Is display any good ? Currently I have oled and I'm afraid I'll be disappointed.
I'm considering to buy one.

Do you know that every time you show such pictures you make me and my wife (I am showing these pictures to her) hungry ?

Sounds great.
Although I must admit I hate having multiple accounts on the same service.
If you know what I mean :)

You might be right because I remember something like that when I was migrating to bsd.cafe.
When migrating - did all the people you follow migrated successfully ? Asking because I remember you asking people to follow you again on your new instance.

Thanks for your reply.
I haven't decided yet as migration would mean leaving bsd.cafe...
On the other hand I'm selfhosting almost everything I use so, hmmm.
#littlefedi is so tempting.

Did anyone try account migration from '*' ---> #littlefedi ?

I'm so happy I moved to OpenBSD Amsterdam !
1. Services are absolute top class.
2. I feel like it's my obligation to support such companies.

Another episode of looking for #eu based VPS/Storage provider that doesn't suck.
As I wrote in my previous post - I need to leave @npub18s7…wqln . Enshittification of their services became monstrous.
I spent 2 days searching for something reliable. Found nothing. For instance most of #eu storage providers rely on @npub18s7…wqln infra.
I knew about @npub1060…ydzs but I didn't want to commit to one year subscription. Why ? Because my ISP has serious problems with peering and it changes from time to time. Usually for the worse upload speed.
In the end I thought - what the heck I will write to @npub1060…ydzs and ask whether they have any place where I could test my upload speed. So, I did. And got response within an hour that they don't have anything like that. But - they can organize something for me. Can you imagine something like that ? A real, caring person on the other side of the wire !
Finally they did and I discovered my upload speed was like two times better than to #Hetzner.
In the end I ended up buying VM from #openbsdams and I'm in the process of migrating stuff.
Thank you guys !
P.S. Yes, I have contacted #Hetzner support. They basically showed me middle finger :)

Very nice presentation.
Funny thing is that in exactly the same fire I also lost two servers.
One of them was my private stuff and I had a local backup.
Another one was a forum for a medium sized community. Month earlier I passed administration of it to another person. I emphasized at least three times "you must create backups". He didn't. Entire forum data (posts, knowledge, pictures) was lost.

You created a very fine place. You should be proud instead of explaining yourself.
Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII. My country was almost completely swept off this planet. So yes, I do understand what fascism was.
Honestly when I hear all these shitstorms about "fascism" - it makes me angry.
Being a person that respects your work I will not write more. Even though many more words come to my mind.

Another episode of my journey to #freebsd
Migrating openldap was easy. Two commands to export and the same to import.
Dovecot was more time consuming. But now I have it in one file.
So now I have one home svr and another one as a VM.
Cool...
