Paypal transactions are not public. Bitcoin transactions are. Every single one. Even lightning devs admit its inconvenient and difficult to use. Most people don't know how bitcoin works or how to get hold of it, let alone want to set up a lightning node in their home. Which leaves it to signing up with alby custodial or similar (no more private than paypal), and even that is complicated for average person who definitely does use paypal without much difficulty. I hate paypal, i WISH bitcoin was more convenient and more private, but wishing it does not make it so.

OK do you have link where i can find more info on this? From what I understand no client supports this yet. And each client will also still restrict which relays can be accessed because of filters (necessary becayse you don't want your client accessing any old relay in the background). Every major relay will end up following the same spam/rules/filters , and others will be ignored. I don't see how the gossip method will work without filling peoples clients with spam or unwanted content/connections. What am I missing?

There is no debt. Any nation with a sovereign currency has no financial constraints. It prints its own money . All dollars are produced by the US govnt as and when they see fit. Zaps are front and centre of every Nostr client, I think this focus is a a turnoff for the average normal person looking for a twitter alternative. Few people on earth care much for bitcoin , few understand it many actively distrust it . But worse still, almost nobody understands lightning (and lightning is even harder to use / understand than bitcoin). And who wants to switch to a platform they don't understand and lets be honest never will. Lightning is HARD!

Light version. I like the fact i don't have to open posts in new tabs so I don't lose my place in the time lime, I have never seen this feature of opening windows within windows anywhere , many other websites and apps could benefit from this. Its simple but brilliant and a game changer for people like me who have to have a gazillion tabs open at once terrified of losing my place when surfing. Honestly there is nothing I would change about coracle (except copy text is difficult) the fonts and colours are good too., easy on the eye. And the relay lights/icons are super useful. Its a network where those who have money (esp powerful coprs and billionaires) can ensure the opinions of the public can be bought one by one, organically and annonymously. Monero was one of the early alt currencies. Yet none of the core Bitcoin devs have made any effort to make Bitcoin private. They won't acknowledge fungibility is an issue. Nostr devs are the same, pushing lightning is making the privacy issue even worse. They are so invested in Bitcoin they won't even talk about the privacy issue yet continue shouting 'freedom tech' every second post. Its just weird. None of the other issues with crypto: security, key handing quantum computing are much of a threat to its future than the fungibility issue . Bitcoin is about to be made utterly useless to the majority of people who operate within the law. The fungibility issue will see its total and permanent collapse in the next few years. Bitcoin is no threat to CBDCs , it shares its worse property: total control of who can and cannot spend where and when by state or corporate bad actors.

The lightning network does not fix bitcoins fungability. It actually makes it even worse. Alby etc are all tied to email addresses etc The lack of fungability in bitcoin will make it worthless in the coming years for anyone except the elite who are beyond the law (in the same way fiat allows them avoid tax but the rest cannot) . NUMPTY Bitcoin bros are wrecking almost every Nostr client with their obsession with zaps. Zaps are a bitcoin payment system found in most clients Nostr. Unfortunately 'zapping' encourages new users to give their email address to a single centralised company called Alby. Alby dominates nostr as there are no viable alternatives for 'zapping'. Bitcoin bros rightly encourage users to leave twitter because Musk wants payment to tack identity. But here on Nostr they push zaps == Alby (c) (ok you could run a payment server /node yourself if you know how to code, understand the fine details of bitcoin/lightning networking - but even then YOU WONT! - its complex, costly and stupid) . The problem is that Alby is not substantially different to Paypal: Both are able tie payments to identities. Alby is tied to Zaps. Alby is tied to your Nostr ID. Alby is tied to your email. Alby is tied to KYC (a legal reqiurement for using Bitcoin). Bitcoin is not a secure alternative to fiat, onboarding is tied to identity, it is not annonymous unless you mine it from scratch, and to make matters worse 'zap' (lightning network) payments are even less secure and less decentralised. Bitcoin anonymity is a myth . I still believe Nostr is the future for decentralised censorship resistant communication, but users must eschew bitcoin and zaps integration. The crypto capitalists are using Nostr to shill dodgy bitcoin startups and monetise every human interaction (the latter is the bigger issue here, if we don't push back on the zap cult, nostr will be flooded with false opinions tied only to the profit motives of receiving zaps) Capitalists will game the system. Unpopular view but I gotta say it: Why is setting up zaps payments on every nostr client so ludicrously difficult? For the ave user I'd say its 10x harder even than recieving and sending bitcoin. And most struggle with that. Unless you have your own server, and capable of setting up domains, nginx/appache etc, you ain't sending or recieving zaps on nostr! Don't expect paid for custodial services to help ave users either, LNURL nodes are hard to find or figure out how set up, most people wont have a clue where to find one or how to register and how to integrate into nostr - none of the clients explain much either. Look at Snort : what even are those zap settings ? There's no help pages. No hints. No links. No explainers. Nadda. It seems to me that the ONLY viable solution for 99.9% of people right now if they want to use zaps is to use Alby. And even thats tricky and confusing for many users even compared to trad bitcoin payment solutions. Browser plugins suck. But my bigger concern with Alby is that it makes most zap payments on Nostr almost entirely centralised. Theres no other solution right now for most people. And why would any serious bitcoiner recommend custodial solutions that require registration, personal data, that provide little privacy and allow tracking of spending habits and ip etc. Its terrible. Really terrible. And yet its what most will have no choice but to use if they want to zap. I'm wondering, how can we persuade Twitter users that paying 7$ a month to Elon musk is actually a worse solution. A LNURL node can cost this much to run yourself. Until there's a sensible solution for zaps (and clear easy documentation for ave users) its not safe for most users to jump into lightning payments, but it ain't gonna happen anyway if it remains this complicated. I run my own nodes and servers and even I find lightning painful. I wish Nostr devs would just drop the whole zaps stuff to be honest. Encouraging everyone to monetise every post for sats is unhealthy , transactional conversations allows those willing to pay good money for certain views to dominate. And it is tarnishing an otherwise great, nay, superb protocol.

Only in the sense that people agree with every single term and condition of using twitter or not use it all. Or any other service, but we know 100% of people don't actually agree with them. They are pressured into consent by culture and necessity. Not really consent at all. And nobody wants long useless videos, they just want the content thats relevant, but what are the other options to get that info in an attention economy. Nostr, maybe, but only if posts aren't driven by people just trying to obtain sats from those with wealth (and therefore power) to be able to do so.

100% afree with this, but doesn't Zapping create a problem just a bad: People with lots of money pay for the tweets that have the most influence . Ie, the tweets that get the most attention/ zaps are ones that incentivise the wealthy, those with money to spend on zapping. My fear is that posts to nostr that gain the most influence will be the ones that can persuade the wealthiest in society to donate sats. Nostr politics becomes tied to the interests of those with the most sats to spend. So watch time algorithms of twitter are replaced with those able to make posts that attract the wealthiest donors. I'm not sure a social media platform that serves posts written primarily to appeal to the richest in society is good for society or good politics either.
