A little disappointed in the folks who've become effectively red-AI-pilled and unable to take any flexibility in their perspectives.
I've personally softened to understand that it's *generative* AI that's a bulk of the issue and have no beef with machine learning as a concept (I've worked on that for half of my career: although some of it led to my 'radicalization' when I saw how it was used to underpay Lyft drivers). From what I understand, it still does. And it'll get bigger once federation closes in (according to https://blueskyweb.xyz/blog/11-15-2023-toward-federation. That coupled with it mimicking Twitter's interface gives the psychological suspension of critique for a lot of people — especially the non-tech-industry adjacent folks to go for it.
There's a lot of FUD around the Fediverse being primarily orientated for tech folks which comes a snake eating its own tail because there's definitely a focus on hosting but not much on _creating_ - compare PixelFed and Peertube to the editing tools of Instagram and YouTube — I can go on about this but I'm not going to ignore that fact that they focused on one thing, controlled it all, slapped "open" on it and got people moving over.
