@nprofile…nmr0 I have a theory that what has made the most difference between this fascist coup and the last one (WWII) is the internet: they don't control the narrative this time.

@nprofile…xx3w That suggests to me that successfully rubbing their noses in their own failure will help foment the division we seek (yes, in this case we're being divisive! we bad) rather than increasing team unity in the face of a common enemy.

@nprofile…nmr0 I've often thought about how one might rationally deal with such people when they can actually tell you who makes their moral choices for them -- because then, at least in theory, you have someone with whom you can rationally discuss the matter.
The problem, of course, is that the "boss"'s motivations are not necessarily aligned with the best interests of his... moral subordinates?... or even with the interests of his group as a whole, but often have much more to do with maintaining and elevating his own standing within a larger hierarchy.
...but if you can determine that, then at least you know who needs to shift, and have some idea of what would motivate them to do so.

A point I'd like to see discussed more, especially with people who are fans of capitalism:
Economic inequality makes money less useful.
My thinking: as inequality gets increasingly extreme, customer-facing vendors are increasingly motivated to price their offerings to appeal to the higher end of that range -- sacrificing quantity of sales for overall increase in profit.
The more this happens, the fewer people have enough discretionary spending money left over -- or, indeed, enough to live on.
Survival (and even prosperity) then becomes less about money and more about establishing supportive community (a mix of barter and localized socialism).
Take-away: #UBI is the only way to save #capitalism.

@nprofile…uhjq Valid concern, and one I often reiterate in my head. My head respondeth thusly: (1) it's definitely not that it doesn't make me care at all; it just means I can continue to function and not spiral down into being a basket-case; (2) if reducing the gain on feels means I can be more effective at working towards fixing the problems, then it's probably a good thing.
Something I thought of while typing that: I don't think it reduces empathy; I still feel rage at the people doing the war crimes and lying and all of that. It just becomes more of a cold, calculating rage. I still feel empathy for the suffering and death; it just becomes something I feel, not something that rolls over me like a tsunami and drowns me.

I've been thinking about revenue models, and how pay-for-access fails in a lot of ways (although it succeeds in some important ones) -- and I just now had this sort of realization that revenue from donations is kind of like a positive form of "stochastic" (as in "stochastic terrorism" -- which I sometimes call "inductive" -- in that people do it spontaneously, and that an entity which desires such activity can encourage it without commanding it or even asking for it directly.
Protests would be another kind of positive stochastic/inductive activity (which, of course, often gets inaccurately labeled as negative and specifically "terrorism").
So maybe "stochastic revenue" or "inductive revenue" would be good terms to use when we're talking about anticapitalist / anarchist business models.
Is contributing to beneficial organizations a kind of protest? Boycotting, the opposite, certainly is...
