Five years ago today, 27-year-old Hardel Sherrell died in a cell in the Beltrami County Jail in Bemidji, Minnesota after a tortuous week of medical neglect. Despite investigations by various agencies incl the FBI, no charges have been filed.

Around 2 a.m. on July 31, Minnesota State Patrol trooper Ryan Londregan fatally shot Ricky Cobb II, 33, during a traffic stop on Interstate 94 West near 42nd Ave. North. Cobb II is Black and Londregan is white. It’s yet another deadly incident in a long pattern of Minnesota authorities’ violent acts against non-threatening Black males during traffic stops.

Police working with building security threatened to arrest protesters and journalists for stepping on the bottom step up of the small stairway connecting the sidewalk to the building; no arrests took place.
