I once ordered something in black, because that was the ONLY colour available - there was literally no other choice - and when it didn't show up and I contacted them to find out why, they said "we e-mailed you (I never got it) because Black is NO LONGER AVAILABLE, so we need you to choose another colour, and when we didn't hear from you we cancelled your order". FWIW I rarely hear anything through the walls (unless they're drilling). Most stuff I hear comes through the door, which lets sound through more readily than the walls do. The biggest issue was when the unit above me changed to having wooden floors, and they had young kids (though my agent said they've possibly violated strata laws), but they seem to have since switched back to carpet

Doesn't have to be in a high-rise. Maybe a townhouse would be more to your liking? Or even a small block. I'm in a 10-unit complex (each 2 beds, 1 bath, 1 garage), and we do have some grounds, but also one of the residents likes gardening and wants to do it, and we're happy to let him do it cos that's saving us on our strata levies by not having to pay a gardener 🙂

I'm talking about I've seen first-hand more crime here - people breaking into garages, etc. A number of us have security bolts on our garage doors now, rather than relying on the weak locks they come with (easily broken into with a screwdriver). The Police chopper is also hanging around a lot more often lately

I think the world is definitely less safe than when we were young. I've seen decline first-hand where I live. When I moved here, it was low density - all houses bar 2 blocks of units in the street - and now it's high density - almost all houses gone, replaced by units and townhouses - and there's been a noticeable decline in the neighbourhood - more break-ins, more rubbish left lying around, etc.

I can't agree with that summary at all. Just look at Punk in the 70's, where neither of those things were necessary - in fact was very much about anybody at all can make music - and several U.K. acts were big worldwide. And now would be a very appropriate time for young people to get angry again. 🙂 It just takes a spark to light a fire

Agree that vinyl sounds better in general, but some digitally-remastered recordings sound better than the original. And as much as I prefer to listen to vinyl, the convenience of digital usually wins out. e.g. if I'm at the computer then I'm more likely to just play the MP3 rather than go out to the other room and put the vinyl on.

I just recently went to a gig for the first time since the pandemic started, and one thing that made me feel more comfortable about it (as well as wearing a mask obvs) is that I got a seat in the back row at the end of the row, so I only had 1 person next to me and no-one behind me, then just rocked up not long before the main act was scheduled to start

Have some sympathy for them though. I've been chairman of mine for a long time, but there's always been at least 2 other people on the committee. For years now I kept getting outvoted on setting the fees according to what the strata agent had budgeted. I kept saying we can't do that, we'll get behind. Still got outvoted. Now one of the balconies needs structural repairs. It could be $100,000. We only have $10,000 in the sinking fund. Guess what is going to happen to our fees now! 😡

Temperature is officially measured 6 feet (I think?) off the ground and in the shade, but when I was a kid and we were having a heat wave the teacher said we could go home if it got to 40 degrees, so we got the thermometer and put it on the asphalt in the middle of the playground - didn't get there but (or I think maybe the teacher knew what we did) 😂

The hashtags are processed only when the initial post is made - it's too late to edit them in after. They'll be in there, but no-one following those tags is going to see it - has to be in there when you post to get federated.

Funny related story you reminded me of. I was teaching students coding, starting with new VS template, which comes with default name of App1. I told them they can rename that to whatever they want and it won't matter. One student decided to rename it to... App. 😂 OMG, things broken left, right, and centre, and it took me a while to notice what she had done. Ok, you can rename it to anything EXCEPT APP. 😂

"the only skills required to enter tech are reading documentation" - the only problem there is that the documentation is often useless, having been written by someone who doesn't know how to write for people of lower ability than themselves (looking at you Microsoft), so then we need to go through the hard slog of having to work it out for ourselves (or with others help).

Have you (your school) thought about using Canvas, and thus digitising the whole thing? In this case though, obviously the students need to all have access to a device at school/home (but usually they all would). If they all have home access it makes it really easy to set homework.

A different explanation to the other one. Taking "-m * -n = m * n and not -(m * n)". I think you're confused between that and -a-b=-(a+b), which is true, the reverse being -(a+b)=-a-b. When we distribute the coefficient over 2 terms ADDED inside brackets, the coefficient is applied to EACH term inside the brackets, but that doesn't work with multiplication! -(axb)≠-ax-b. e.g. 2(2x2)=2(4)=8, NOT (4x4)=16. We only distribute over each term if it's + and - inside, not x or ÷.
