Is anyone aware of iOS #reticulum app? If I had apple dev account I’d tried to build but I don’t have one. I see #ratspeak are planning one but now estimate release time is indicated.

Behold! 😁The first standalone #reticulum LoRa camera, running micropython reticulum. I made a custom pcb which I’ll share separately. After TCP only interface tests were successful, I decided to use seeed’s wio sx1262 for lora interface. This lora board was already working fine with xiao esp32s3 and shouldn’t have problems with esp32s3-cam board. As it turned out I was right,. I now need to bundle this with solar panel, bms and at least two 18650 batteries. Esp32s3 is a power hungry board.

I've finally made a video about #micropython #reticulum firmware (both plain and t-deck specific ones). I’m now able to demonstrate the image and voice sending and receiving capabilities over LoRa<—>TCP, which shows the real power of reticulum https://youtu.be/GdOzYJ3gv4k

2026-05-12 17:24:42 GMT

Whoa success! I managed to send audible voice msg from t-deck #reticulum to MeshChat. Three days struggle 😭 The culprit was the tight loop of screen refreshing, keyboard poll, LoRa poll and i2s mic capture. It turns out esp32 core was skipping bytes from the mic which caused the codec to encode partial voice, causing inaudible msg. I gave preference to i2s bus and now the msgs are good enough and go over LoRa to meshchat successfully. Now i have voice and image transport on t-deck!

2026-05-02 14:53:16 GMT

I’ve added jpeg view on the #reticulum t-deck #micropython chat app. Looks so cool 😁 I have to make a video about this. Basically when t-deck sends “image” keyword to the camera node, the former gets back a camera capture and can show it on the screen. I do some centering and resizing to fit it on 320x240 on the deck’s screen. Again, for the sake of speedy jpeg decoding, I compiled a C module with micropython bindings.

New updates of the rnsd-menubar #reticulum #macos app. Searchable, clickable #nomadnet lists which open the pages. I think I’ll leave this app like this. No need to re-invent MeshChat. Chnages are uploaded to GitHub: https://github.com/varna9000/rnsd-menubar

I’ve uploaded to GitHub my RNSD #reticulum MacOS menubar app. It’s a python app, so source code is easy to read. It’s basically a GUI wrapper of rnsd and its sister commands. You can put it in your startup apps on the MacOS to have a reticulum daemon running all the time. For the ones who don’t want to bundle it themselves, i’ve included a bundled executable in the Releases section, so you can just unzip and put it in your /Applications folder (app is not signed 😄) https://github.com/varna9000/rnsd-menubar

Just added particle sensor sds011 to the #micropython #reticulum firmware. On the image below you can see a #nomadnet page showing both bme280 and sds011 readings. I need a custom PCB to get rid of these jumper wires 😁 The lxmf node example can also return the value of the sensors, when it receives keyword “sensor”.

I need volunteers for a test. I’m hosting #nomadnet #reticulum page on my experimental micropython esp32s3 node. Could you connect with nomadnet capable browser (MeshChat would do fine) with a tcp interface to rn.varnatransport.com:4243 and see if you can load the page? On the page there’s a link with mp3 - easter egg message (2kb) 😁 The page is hosted on the esp32s3 itself (below). I’ll leave the node online for few hours to see if it’s stable with more than one link (me).

2026-03-04 09:57:16 GMT

Now that I have basic #reticulum features on #micropython, should we add some oled output? 😁 Also, I’m thinking of some basic GUI for my T-deck, for LXMF node (send and receive). That would be glorious! I have played before with micropython and T-deck’s LoRa, so I just need to get the screen and keyboard libraries from it. Hopefully things have gotten easier with those drivers since I’ve visited that project 3 years ago. https://github.com/varna9000/t-deck-lorawan-micropython

2026-03-03 12:59:53 GMT

Now it’s quite easy to hook bme280 via i2c and show sensor data on #reticulum #nomadnet page, just using standalone esp32. No additional hardware needed. The page is served off the esp32 with #micropython

2026-03-02 20:07:47 GMT

Micropython #reticulum is progressing nicely. I've just added:
1. Transport mode - routing packets between enabled interfaces
2. TCP client interface
I’ve tested sending announcements from laptop via UDP and TCP and I can see on the SDR the packets being re-transmitted over the LoRa interface. Changes are uploaded to the GitHub repo.
Next: Might be a stretch but I’m looking into hosting/serving NomadNet page on the micropython Node 😁

2026-02-22 14:01:32 GMT

Now I can control GPIO with messaging a #reticulum node over LoRa. The target node is autonomous, running micro-reticulum firmware with some changes to accept gpio control and its status. Here I’m blinking a led via LXMF from MeshChat.

@nprofile…v6fw i saw the video, but it takes a raspberry pi to take the picture. My idea is to get autonomous esp32, without additional hardware. The problem is that esp32-cam doesnt have enough pins. It does however have free uart, so perhaps it could run one of those integrated lora modules such as ebyte e220 as serial reticulum interface.

2026-02-12 21:16:40 GMT

I'm trying to test Sideband #reticulum app. I’ve got T-deck Rnode connected via usb to my Nothing phone v1, but it seems the app can’t see the Rnode interface. It shows “Down”. I’m not usually Android user, do i need to do something explicitly? I’ve enabled USB debug just in case, but it doesn’t change anything. Any ideas?

Here’s my setup with Xaio nrf52 with the compiled micro #reticulum firmware in Transport mode. Currently battery is 4.11V, will measure it tomorrow, although there’s not much sun these days. Also there’s no really traffic except my other node’s announcements.

2026-02-10 15:33:07 GMT

Here’s my forked GitHub repo for the two additional boards for micro #reticulum . Since I don’t have VSCode, so all is done via command line. I’m also using UV for the python dependancies, since it’s much easier. If you fork it , get UV and run ‘uv sync’ and it’ll download all the dependancies. Then you can run either of the scripts for flashing the respective board. https://github.com/varna9000/microReticulum_Firmware/blob/master/CUSTOM_BOARDS.md

@nprofile…v6fw I mean, someone has already done the hard work, but the only (probably) power efficient board is the RAK4631, the rest are all esp32s, which are power-hungry. RAK is also expensive, but the Xiao is just $10, so it could be a game changer if it works good. See the regional repo which I elaborated on: https://github.com/attermann/microReticulum_Firmware

@nprofile…v6fw yes, it is autonomous! microreticulum firmware has minimal stack in it, so it runs without additional HW. I’ve got another regular rnode and when I send announcement, I can see it in Xiao’s serial logs. See blow. The logs is a bess because newlines are not properly printed 😄

Quite a good progress today on micro #reticulum (Rnode) firmware. I’ve managed (with the help of Claude) to make board definitions and build the firmware for Seeed Xiao nrf52840. The motivation behind this is the low power capabilities for the board. I want this to act in Transport mode, put a solar panel and batter on it and put it somewhere in the wild and forward the traffic, essentially extending reticulum over LoRa. I’m still to test it in the wild and see what the efficiency would be.

Also how do you #emacs users do C-x on split keyboards? I used to press X with index finger (not touch typist) now I have to do it with ring finger I guess. It’s going to be an adventure.

I’ve committed to expanding #meshtastic network in my area as much as I can, so I found the highest point around and a (fairly) accessible tree to put on a node in Router mode. I’ve got it hooked with bmp280 sensor to get temperature and pressure every hour as well. It’s not perfect mounting point as a mast would be, but we deal with what we have. So far, I was able to extend the network with 20+ km (tested). Node is Xiao nRF52840 + 5V solar panel and 18650 battery.
