Folks interested in emerging social media protocols should check out Willow. Like Bluesky’s atproto and Nostr it is inspired and built by Secure Scuttlebutts developers. It’s another approach that solves a bunch of problems in its more popular siblings.

in nos.social you can follow any mastodon/fediverse user just putting their username in the search box.

I agree it's confusing.
It shouldn't really matter much which one you pick. Your same identity should work in all them and display the content. Each app of course is different, but the distinction is smaller than choosing what fediverse server to use, because the app is separate from the data and your account.
For login right now it's a browser extension, which isn't good. We're adding oauth style login with identity servers which should be a lot easier for users to grok.

There’s tons of social media about what’s left on the Playa after burningman… this year was even worse than others because of the rain and mud. The “Burden of the Beast” piece by @sabatomstudios was probably the most timely and prophetic art at #burningman2023
It is made out of reclaimed materials from houses destroyed from climate disasters in New Orleans. It depicts the way in our homes and lives would migrate to safer places escaping the impact of climate change if we lived in a Miyazaki movie.

@npub1csc…8pjk i do know how both work. You can run multiple atproto networks which don’t federate. That’s what the testnet is right now.
One reason I don’t develop on ActivityPub is because I don’t like the federation model and how servers have all the power and it’s impossible to build on top of AP. You can only build with it.

I managed to upset some folks on bluesky when I suggested they need to focus less on kicking folks off of the one server running now and instead focus on moderation for when federation is enabled. I’m curious what folks in the fediverse think.

The fediverse is a network of fiefdoms. It means you can't build applications on top of AP, you can only build new AP hosts. User migration between fiefdoms is clunky, name changes don't work, there is no way to make an app ecosystem the way you can on nostr and at_protocol. You've got lots of servers, but they've got all the power, not the users.
