So, did a #SungoldTomato taste test tonight (say that ten times fast). The ones from the farmstand were bigger than ours, but not as tasty. As for ours, the ones grown in containers and in the #CommunityGarden were on the small side, but delicious. And, the ones from the garden had just a wee bit more sweetness. I still have a couple more tomato plants that could use bigger spaces, so I'll add some composted soil, then plant those in the community garden. I still have plenty of room, especially since I harvested the two potato plants recently.

"The arrest numbers, obtained from a person familiar with the information who spoke anonymously to discuss data that has not been publicly released, comes after the agency shifted its approach from high-profile arrest sweeps in major American cities to quieter ways to reach President Donald Trump’s deportation goals.
"The figures indicate that while the administration is no longer cracking down on individual cities, the arrests continue and are surging.
"The total number of arrests during the five-day period starting Friday and ending Tuesday translates into roughly 2,000 arrests per day. It was not clear where the arrests had taken place.
"The spike in arrests was first reported by The New York Times.

- Spinach
- Salad mixes
- Raspberries, blueberries and blackberries
Goldberg said a feature all these food items have in common is rough, irregular surfaces, which make it easier for the parasite to hide in crevices and latch on, making them difficult to fully clean.
Cyclospora does not spread through human-to-human transmission and is passed on through contaminated food.
“The way this spreads is from a person having diarrhea and some of that material getting into either food prep or food service,” said Goldberg.
Cyclospora infections are seasonal, with cases rising in spring and summer. The #cyclosporiasis season runs from May 1 to Aug. 31.
FDA investigations of foodborne illness outbreaks have recorded 21 cases related to Cyclospora outbreaks since 2013. The most common food items are fresh herbs and leafy vegetables found in salad mixes."

Heh. So, we have some pretty dangerous garden implements (garden forks, grass whips with serrated edges, sledge hammers, etc.), but one of my favorite implements is what I call a "Spikey Garden Digger" (it's actually marketed as a "Lawn Aerator"). I bought it a couple of years ago, and have abused it terribly, since I don't just use it to aerate my soil, I actually twist it by the handle to loosen up roots before I try and dig them up! And yeah, despite the unintended use, it has held up quite well! The "nails" are definitely welded in there!

[Thread] So, I started using #Toothpowder instead of toothpaste a while back. I would love to eventually start making my own. The brand I currently use is Simply Sooney. It does NOT have fluoride, but that's not an issue for me. It contains birch xylitol, calcium carbonate, betonite clay, magnesium, Himalayan salt and organic peppermint essential oil. I'm posting a few recipes for homemade toothpowder -- some with baking soda, some without.

"Brown helps patrons disable AI-powered assistants like Siri or so-called smart features in email and switch from using Google, which doesn’t offer an option to search without AI overviews, to a browser that does.
"A big part of his job as a librarian has been helping people with information technology, he said. He sees helping people think critically about technology and AI as a natural extension of this work.
"While Brown’s long been skeptical of the purported benefits of technology for society, he didn’t start offering the #AIRemoval services until this spring, when he attended a webinar presented by #HannahCyrus, a #BangorME librarian who has become a leading voice in a nationwide movement of librarians who are working to help patrons understand the risks of AI and other technologies.

Some scents tend to make poo scent worse, imho. Cinnamon and vanilla, and some heavy floral scents (Jasmine) in particular. They are what I'd call clingy. And also, I think high notes are better than base notes, scent-wise. Bergamot or mint might be good as well.

The recipe I made up involves only citrus oils that I had on hand. Grapefruit, lime, lemon and orange. It seems to be quite pleasant and not clingy (and you know what I mean about clingy scents).

So, I haven't cooked with #Tofu in a while, and had a hankering for Sweet and Sour fried tofu. It was okay, but I'm a bit rusty and made some mistakes (didn't marinade it long enough, didn't dry it completely, didn't use enough oil, etc.) But, it agreed with me (which means I can eat it again -- as long as I'm using some fermented products to help break it down). I'm determined to become a tofu master again, and when we get a new grill, I'm going to try smoking it (and yes, that's a thing). Posting some recipes for this week's #SolarPunkSunday!

So, I'm either the recipient of an attempted #scam OR the US #DOJ is #catfishing for info. I just received a very weird letter in the mail from what claimed to be the DOJ, but then had two different Maine addresses associated with the mailing. Also, they also didn't have my full name. Anyhow, I looked up the docket number, 25-CR-00176, and it's associated with #LuigiMangione's trial. It also stated that as a "victim" I was owed compensation. Very fishy!!!

I spent a little time *weeding* in the backyard #FoodForest. And by weeding, pretty much pulling out the few patches of #OrientalBittersweet that were still around. With both #WildStrawberries and #Raspberries growing in that spot, there will be plenty of berries to go around -- just not invasive ones! And yeah, Oriental Bittersweet is something one has to pull up by the roots, and then burn them. I've pretty much eradicated it from two spots in my backyard, but I'll have to keep on top of looking out for it until other plants take over!

"By retrofitting their shipping container test chamber with off-the-grid, solar powered battery storage, AL-Hassawi’s team can heat their chamber to upwards of 130 degrees Fahrenheit to test out their solutions while measuring factors such as air velocity, temperature, and humidity. The team is particularly focused on optimizing a passive cooling method involving large towers and evaporative cooling that dates as far back as 2,500 BCE in ancient Egypt. In these designs, moisture evaporates at the tower’s top, which turns into cool, heavier air that then sinks down to the habitable space below. In the team’s version, moisture could be generated via misting nozzles, shower heads, or simply water-soaked pads.
" 'It’s an older technology, but there’s been an attempt to innovate and use a mix of new and existing technologies to improve performance and the cooling capacity of these systems,' explained Al-Hassawi, who also envisions retrofitting smokestacks in older buildings to work as new cooling towers."

Heh. Ironically, the only crop that seems to be flourishing in my #CommunityGarden plot is potatoes! But there used to be a potato field nearby, so maybe that's what takes to that soil. Meanwhile, in my home garden, everything is doing well except for the butternut squash (doing a re-do of that, with summer squash and mini-cukes). The soil in my home garden is full of compost and I had a clover cover crop last year, so that soil is quite rich. And good thing I put up a fence around my home garden (and remembered to lock the gate). I just chased off a groundhog who was investigating my unfenced flower garden!

From what I've read, evacuations are still underway. As of today, "But on Friday, employees saw that the tank was bulging, a sign it was still 'actively in crisis,' as one official described it. The manufacturer said a valve had been damaged, preventing a controlled release."

We have fans set up in the upstairs rooms. One is pulling in cool air, the other exhausting hot hair. The one pulling in cool air has #Lilacs blooming underneath, so the whole upstairs smells amazing! Once I reverse the fans, #Lavender (growing under the other window) will start flowing in!

Temperatures in May haven't been this high in two years as Dehli residents struggle to hide from the heat and a new power demand record is set for the nation.

"The city of #Delhi, India, hit 43.4 C (110 F) Wednesday, the hottest May weather in the last two years. Yellow, orange and red warnings are in effect for the heat wave in various areas of northern India.
"The scorching heat drove power demand to a new record for the nation. The highest maximum temperature in the country last week was 114 degrees F (46 C) in Akola, Maharashtra.
" 'This is normally their hottest time of year, but the heat could be dangerous for the elderly and very young,' AccuWeather International Meteorologist Jason Nicholls said."
