@npub13uu…pvgs That design is 17 years older than the compliance requirement. It didn’t apply to Nokia, Palm, BlackBerry, et al. It only applies to Apple because Android ate those competitors and is strangling their own premium market. Nobody’s requiring KaiOS to comply. Compliance is a consequence of success. That’s fine, but people need to understand the scale of the demand.

@npub13uu…pvgs iOS was purpose built: “An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator... these are NOT three separate devices!” It is not a general purpose OS with these other components added, like Windows and Android (Linux) are. Windows without web components is still Windows. iOS without WebKit API is not iOS. It’s fine to want that, but building it takes years, not months.

@npub13uu…pvgs Firefox is a web browser, not a browser engine. Its browser engine is Gecko, or it will be after iOS allows other engines, but iOS will not have access to Gecko outside of Firefox. Hence, rendering PWAs in other engines requires opening in other browsers.
By contrast, WebKit is built into iOS, not Safari. That’s been true from day one. Third-party app support arrived later. iOS never had the architecture to access browser engines in third-party apps.

We closed out a couple of TV show seasons last night: Fargo S1 and Wolf Like Me S1. I know we’re late to the game on Fargo, but it felt like the type of show we’d like to watch at our own pace. For all the implausible events of the season, I’m hung up on the idea that no one recognized Tim Conway’s dentist sketch. Wolf Like Me is strikingly well balanced. It could have been too goofy, too dramatic, or too intense, but it hits dead center. Still undecided if I love or hate that trope at the end.

@npub1ahq…wjwd True. I would have had 5-10 more years of being younger than the Speaker of the House if the Dems were in charge. Also, this whole deal with Republicans gaining control of the House, threatening to shut down the government (successfully or not), then dumping their “leaders” like wet garbage is the dumbest shit, and people continue to vote for it.

@npub15l7…aang RCS is no more secure than any other carrier protocol. Encrypted RCS is part of Google Messages routed through Google servers. Simply supporting RCS would not make text messaging any safer, but it would allow Google to send ads to Apple customers through Google’s RCS Business Messaging, which is sitting dormant until Google can reach those customers.
