Last Notes npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk First fire of the year and Sid is loving it. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…4jfp The UI is good enough for posting on mobile as the sidebar can be hidden. I semi-regularly post from my phone and while awkward, it works ok. I don't plan on creating a dedicated mobile UI. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…vz6y yeah, Ubuntu is great. I recently upgraded to 26.04.1 and it's been flawless. For screenshots, I just use the Gnome Screenshot tool by pressing `print screen` on my keyboard. Seems to do what I need, but my needs when it comes to screenshots are pretty basic. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Been trying a new email client, Hylki, after reading about it on OMG! Ubuntu! Really enjoying it. It's modern and has a tonne of features. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Are Webmentions bad from a privacy perspective? I'm not so sure. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I post and reply from my website these days, so I actually need a Mastodon account? npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I think it's time... #Ubuntu npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Really interesting (and saddening) look at the front line in the Ukraine/Russia war. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk A friend asked for help setting up a blog, so I went with #Pureblog (obviously). npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…z6pq @nprofile…sx6h the sad truth is, I think most jobs/company don't provide annual pay rises, especially inline with inflation. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…z6pq yeah, that's completely fair. Which then usually ends with you looking for something else, then them offering to counter when you resign. Why not just fox the salary problem in the first place. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…sx6h @nprofile…z6pq on a personal level, I've always thought about it in a similar way, except I don't mind talking about it. I've always approached my salary with - I have a number in my head that I think I'm worth, or that I'd be happy with. If my salary is the same or greater than that number, I'm good. If a peer earns more than me, good for them. I'm still happy. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…vk0x I don't agree. Union or not, here in the UK employers **legally** cannot stop us from discussing our salaries. Now whether that's taboo within the workforce because people think they can't discuss is another matter. The can, by law. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…mgsr oh, I like that! I didn't realise that was a thing. Nordic countries are always ahead of the rest of the world with these kind of things. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I don't think I agree with publishing your salary online. Here's why... npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…m5je that's apocalyptic shit right there. Horrendous. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Follow up from this post - I just signed into my Vinted account (to delete it) and it didn't send me an MFA SMS so how the fuck is me giving them my number securing my account in any way? npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…5cwy it's brilliant. Really good laptop. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Brilliant. I'm such a "valued customer" that they couldn't even be arsed to put my name in the email. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Our new addition to the family, Nelly, has arrived and she's causing havoc already. 🤣 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…uf2n yeah, strong agree there. I think it's something like 10% of the population are lefties, so that's probably why. My wife and I are both lefties, but she does everything (except write) with her right hand. She's a traitor! 🤣 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Apparently left-handed people can't use a fountain pen as the left hand smudges the ink as they write. I call bullshit on that. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Always fun when your bike runs out of electricity on the way to work. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk The poor buzzard was still there when I was walking the dogs this morning, so clearly something was wrong. Luckily my wife was able to get hold of a local falconer who was able to catch him and hopefully nurse him back to health. 🦅 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Taking the dogs for a walk with our oldest and we came across this beautiful buzzard just sat there. Wasn't bothered by us really. I just hope it doesn't have a bust wing or anything. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I think if I had my time again, I would have become a software developer. I just so much fun - coming up with ways to solve a problem in an elegant way is very satisfying. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Antonio opines that by using RSS feeds instead of visiting people's sites, we're robbing ourselves of enjoying the design many site owners have put a lot of work into. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…7ffl €40 per month? No thanks. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I'm sick of pissing about with Codeberg. I've switched back to GitHub. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I recently bought a new Peugeot and the experience of getting setup on their online platform has been painful to say the least. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…ehqg I personally run my VPS on Hetzner with HestiaCP on top of it. It gives the closest experience to something like cPanel where I can easily create and drop websites without having to SSH in and manually configure files. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…cj9k @nprofile…f24l haha poor choice of words on my part there, sorry! npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk So it turns out that 3D printers are actually very useful and I've been able to make my home office just a little bit cooler. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…z6pq i stopped reading the news years ago, maybe that's why I don't need it haha. I'm blissfully unaware of what's going on in the world. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I'm getting sick of LLMs being everywhere. Let me use you how I want to use you, then get out of my way! npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Some goats, just goating around, watching me mow the field. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk So you know how we have the incubator setup? Well, unbeknownst to me, my wife gave one of our broody hens a cluch of Guinea fowl eggs to sit on a month ago. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…panx we have 3 broody hens at the moment, so we have them sitting on eggs too. We're not confident in their ability to brood though, so we're hedging our bets. 🤣 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk We have the incubator setup incubating a dozen eggs, including the last 2 our hen that was caught by the fox layed. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Like we don't have enough animals already. This little black blob will be joining us on August. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Can someone who's more green fingered than me tell me is this is giant hogweed please? npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk So a fox came into the field and took a chicken from right in front of us at dinner time last night. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I'm quite liking #Vivaldi, especially now I have dark/light mode switching working in #Ubuntu. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Yep, I definitely won't buy a bigger #3DPrinter. 🫣 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Over 2 years now and @nprofile…60xv STILL haven't fixed this theming issue. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk So I've been listening to #Spotify most of the day while working. Instead of playing my liked songs, I've just let it play whatever. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Sorry for all the spam, I was testing a new feature on my local dev site and totally forgot to turn off the Masto cross-posting hook. 🤦🏻♂️ npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Why does everyone in #F1 love #Monaco? It's by far the most BORING race on the calendar. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk A little over a week ago I took delivery of my new Fitbit Air, so I thought I'd jot down some of my thoughts after using it every day to track my health. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…aqfp how the kit? I'm after some new jeans. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Second times a charm. 👍🏻 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…wznu correct. I've just been researching it and apparently there's an option to add supports? 🤷🏼♂️ npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Dammit, my second print somehow went wrong. I think it's because I dont have the printer on the steadiest of surfaces. Will move and try again. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk My friend has talked me into doing a charity 10km run around Chester Zoo in September. They're fine raising to help tigers. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I've been thinking about getting a #3DPrinter recently. Never used one before but I think it would be useful/interesting. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk It always makes me sad when bloggers have no way of easily contacting them on their site. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Lovely sourdough toast for breakfast. The old girl knows there might be some crust going spare too - she isn't daft! npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Went for another run this evening, was planning to do 3km again, but I felt good at the halfway point so I carried on. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk FFS I cannot handle all these @nprofile…mvm4 issues. Every time I go to do anything over the last week or so, it's shit the bed. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Ironically, since moving to @nprofile…mvm4 I've had nothing but problems. I keep getting time outs and refused connections when pushing, and now the Pure Blog updater is broken because it can't pull from Codeberg. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…z6pq that's what I use 95% of the time. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…wznu oh wow, really? Requiring fountain pens in school is a new one on me. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I've been getting into fountain pens over the last 6 months or so. They're lovely to write with, it not awkward for a lefty like me. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I want to love #Vivaldi, I really do, and the new design for v8 looks great. But the lack of ability to automatically switch to dark mode in Gnome is a deal-breaker for me (I think it's a bug). Here's a demo video of Vivaldi (right) and Firefox (left). npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…x2x6 I have zero interest in self-hosting something like that. I learned a long time ago that I don't want to self-host something that's critical. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I really hope this isn't true as I'm not sure what I'd replace Bitwarden with. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I recently upgraded my home internet to full fiber. Was it worth the money? npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk TIL (thanks to @nprofile…0gqx) that it costs ~£475 per year to publish and sign an app in the Apple store. No wonder every app in the app store costs a few $/month. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…2r93 wow, is that new old stock or something? I bet that cost a pretty penny. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…np7x I'm sorry this happened - this is an interesting one as auto-save should have kicked in after 10 seconds of not typing. The only time that wouldn't happen is if you hadn't saved the new post at all, thus writing a file and slug to the filesystem. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…z6pq yeah, they were doing some admin work - was only down a few mins. Just so happened it was when I looked haha. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Brilliant. I look at migrating #PureBlog over the #Codeberg only to find the site is down. 😠 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…agtg yeah, you'd think. But $6/m for 6 mailboxes is extremely cheap. So I'm not sure. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I've been invited to #Thunderbird Pro but the pricing is confusing. Is that 15 email address with one mailbox, or is the storage split across up to 15 mailboxes? I assume the former. If so, I'll probably go with #Fastmail. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…w98u that wonky sticker on the tank would irk me no end. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Filled up my wife's car with diesel just now. £107 for 56 litres!! It's usually around £65-70 to fill up. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…9v4s is that Conky skirting system stats? It's been so long since I've used Conky. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk I've been thinking about leaving GitHub, and here's my plan. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…fsr0 If I do it, I plan to just use the Git app that Synology offers. Should be easy enough. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…ynd9 that's the thing, my use case is SOOOO simple. I have no need for a CI/CD pipeline, so it would be simple to move. I'm just lazy. :-) npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…fsr0 I'm thinking maybe my public projects go to Codeberg, but my private repos sit in a private instance. 🤷🏻♂️ npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…pmtr I don't think there's anything wrong with GitHub, personally. I haven't noticed any of these outages people keep talking about, I just like to steer clear from big tech if I can help it. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Seriously considering a switch from #GitHub to #Codeberg after reading the post below, but I'm not sure I have the energy for it. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk @nprofile…fsr0 you lunatic!!! You just got it working! 🤣 npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk OK, the Framework saga is finally over...kinda. npub1t4gvq9m67klhhzugz7c0yewyrqhtth9d29sc3m5jeu38rflz04rq668sm0 Kev Quirk Why is everything proprietary these days?
