Compare your example of the blue collar worker on six figures, with a one-person business who employs a secretary and makes just enough to get by. The business owner isn't working class, but the wealthy blue-collar worker is?
The relationships, and therefore the definitions, have changed over time.
I thoroughly take your point about owners/bosses. But I am more exercised by the difference between what someone is worth to society and what they are paid.

We shouldn't be forcing people to accept things that go against their beliefs — pressing the accelerator with the parking brake on. Instead, we should be relieving them of their beliefs in the first place.

Too much to say in one toot :)
For the voting part of #democracy to work we need the other bits: a well-educated, well-informed #electorate, who know the difference between #thinking and #believing. And that requires, among other things, a truly free press, and an #education system worthy of the title.
Most grown ups are not adults: they actively seek out the comfort of certainty. So they vote for the dogmatic sociopath.
