Same here. Realized as well that stuff like gift cards on bitrefill are the same thing. It's just bitrefill that gets the Bitcoin, then probably sells for FIAT to get new gift cards from the shops.
So everything still runs on FIAT except of bitrefill. Not helping Bitcoin adoption.
But I still think that stuff like bitrefill or debit cards on Bitcoin has a use case for some. In terms of savings. It's a kind of a step of a transition.

Do I need an river account or a wallet on river to send river links? If yes, is the river wallet self custody?
I guess the wallet is custodied by river and thats why they can handle every wallet address (lightning/onchain) you want to send Bitcoin to.

I would not call it a distraction. But maybe it could be one tool of many to build a product of later.
There need to be development like this.
We must not forget that there is a huge difference between the normies world and the Bitcoiners world.
If we build for Bitcoiner, it can be nerdy and kind of reckless because of testing etc.
But if you want to build for normies world you have to make the app as easy to use as possible especially when dealing with money. There must be double or triple nets that the dumbest user cannot get rekt by the app, other than doing dumb transactions, which are users faults.
But if he changes his phone and did not write his seed phrase down, there must be a way that he can get his wallet back. Without a big workaround. He then does not want to hear that he should have wrote down his seed phrase.
This is what the user expects from every banking app. He gets a new phone, logs in and there is his money. At least we have to achieve this user experience.
Otherwise there is no reason to switch to Bitcoin for normies.
I think we even would damage bitcoins reputation for the normies when one after another loses his funds because of not writing down the seed phrase or a mint rug pulls or what ever.

Would you really suggest to bring cashu, in its current development stage, to a platform with millions of mainly normies?
I like cashu but that seems not right to me.
Maybe something like the approach of #zeus could fit better, but I'm afraid that even this is too much. If you have to manage the swaps by yourself.
But the approach of zeus with automatic swaps in the background, cashu -> lightning -> onchain with preset thresholds. Which can be adjusted by users when needed, maybe could be possible. Sending Bitcoin, no matter to which address, onchain lightning or chashu or whatever must be managed by the app.
When normies want Bitcoin, they expect that everything works out of the box. Ideally better that their legacy banking experience. You don't need to explain them the differences of onchain or lightning. THEY JUST DONT GIVE A SHIT.
And that is ok.
If we want Hyperbitcoinization we have to built tools that the market wants or could like with features like privacy or/and anonymity that we all need. Trojan Horse approach.

I understand you but you have to be realistic.
There will be always people who like to show off their position like your boss. That is not the problem.
The problem is the FIAT system we are living in. Your boss feels safe because every country and companies have laws and regulations. So if you punch your boss, you will be sued and maybe you will lose your job. So your ability to react get limited. So your boss can feel safe.
And here we come to an other problem. You are and will be dependent on your income because of inflation. Not possible to accumulate wealth in FIAT-currencies. So you know that and that's why you have to limit yourself and comply with the rules. In a free world you would punch him ins his face.
You said "We must have respect..." That's not how respect works. Respect needs to be earned. You cannot have respect for someone you just meet the first time.
In a free world you would never know if the person you talk to have a gun in his pocket. So you will talk to him politely and respectfully because otherwise he could harm you. It's the same with the person you talk to. He doesn't know your power portfolio, so he will be kind to you as well.
And in the end your boss got used to act like this because of people like you. Who don't do anything about it. You don't confront him about this, or you don't quit your job etc.
We are all still mentally constrained by the current system. It's time to break free. And #Bitcoin can help us do that.

If you don't believe in God, why would you even consider marriage just because you want children? Two people can love each other, stay together for life, and raise happy children without ever getting married. Again, this invalidates your argument.

Giving new users the option to register an Alby account with setting up a lightning address in the Alby Go app.
Normies need an easy option to pay someone. A lightning address comes close to how sending money in the Fiat world.
Bank Transfers to IBAN in EU or to email addresses in PayPal etc.

Yes, it is possibly. Actually it is really easy to set it up with Alby.
What I wanted to say was that it would be even more awesome if these sub accounts would get a lightning address.
This would make transactions for newcomers much easier as normies now this process from PayPal etc.

You can do that already.
You can create an Alby Account.
Then you install "Alby Hub" on your node. (Available on Umbrel and Start9 and Raspiblitz, that I know)
Then you connect your Alby Hub to your Alby Account.
And then you can create sub-accounts which are labeled as family and friend accounts. Which is really nice.
But my post above was about lightning addresses for these sub accounts. It would be awesome if there would be a way that eve y subaccount could get a lightning addresses like "[email protected]" That would improve UX for newbies a lot.

Would love to provide wallets for friends and family and have an individual Lightning address for them. It's just easier for newcomers to send to a lightning address and giving others their own lightning address to receive payments.
How can I achieve this right now? Let's say I provide the lightning node and create a family and friend account for my friend through my Alby Hub. My friend now has to create an account on Alby to get his lightning address.
He then uses Alby Go and connects to his account on my node. In Alby Go he can insert a lightning address.
If he puts in his lightning address of his Alby Account in Alby Go, will he receive sats, sent to his address in Alby Go?

Nothing in this world is for free.
I don't know your situation and I don't want to assume things that are not true.
It is a too big topic to discuss in form of writing, I think.
What I would sell Bitcoin for?
A scam currency for sure not.
A home? Depends. Does you current living situation harm your health and could a home improve this? If yes and I never could buy it with my fiat job money, why not? There are million other consideration one could make here.
Vacation? Maybe. No simple beach vacation but to show my parents and kids some places around the world I visited and had a great impact in my live, definitely yes. If we could not afford this with our fiat job.
To make it clear, I don't sell it for material things per se. But to improve life quality, health, safety.
Could you explain what do you mean that Bitcoin is a game for you?
Because for me, in this clown world everything got a game because of money printing.
Bitcoin for me is pure reality. In this reality I can save my energy in form of purchasing power to use it for whatever I think is worth trading my saved energy for.

Everything ist possible but could be too optimistic.
Governments are slow and decisions offen take longer as expected. I cant Imagine that they will make a final decisions in 2025.
This sentiment reminds me of last cycle in 2021 where everyone expected #Bitcoin at $100000.

Strike ist BTC only, aber ja, den Seed bekommst da nicht.
Meiner Erfahrung nach juckt das die Anfänger aber auch nicht, wenn sie wegen dem Number Go Up Grund kommen.
Und über diesen Weg kommen die meisten Leute hier in der EU oder sonstigen Erste Welt Ländern zu Bitcoin. Da es uns noch zu "gut" geht. Zumindest man es uns das glauben lässt.
In anderen Ländern mit ZB einem sehr schwachen/sehr kaputten Finanzsystem ist die Motivation wahrscheinlich eine andere und entsprechend muss man dort anders an die Neulinge herantreten. Dort könnte die Kontrolle üver den Seed an Nummer eins stehen.
Aber ich denke egal über welchen Weg man zu Bitcoin kommt, wenn man erstmal skin in the game hat, dann beschäftigt man sich mit Bitcoin und kommt von alleine darauf, das es extrem wichtig ist seine Keys zu halten.
Aber bis dahin brauchen die Leute halt den richtige den Anbieter, damit sie bleiben. Und das ist die Schwierigkeit für mich :D
