I feel like if I was born any earlier I would have learned how to actually code a game in C and if I was born any later I would have gone the Unity route. Instead, I got stuck with RPG Maker lol. That was the best engine that could run on my shitty family computer in 2005 and I poured so much of my free time into that for years and years. The only way I see myself learning something else to the same degree at this point is if I like, get in some accident and can't do anything for 6 months.

I don't see it being too far off from trying to find a bunch of other photos on Google images and telling the artist to take bits and pieces from them. Kind of similar story to game devs using AI placeholders that come close enough for them to work on the game before they get the real art in place.

TL;DR #1: Legal pressure, though not direct. Monetary costs reaching unsustainable levels. Site users getting out of hand. Vistarrr recommends keeping any new sites niche and thinking hard about what kind of community you want to foster.
TL;DR #2: Vistarrr was away from ATF so the site admins and mods made a backup. They reinstated a mod who was previously removed to help do this by way of adding a backdoor. Vistarrr returns and tells people that the backup is dangerous and is assured it has been deleted. Said mod lied about deleting it, is unhinged, and chimps out, threatening to leak the entire thing. Any ATF clones that pop up after the website shuts down are NOT to be trusted.

the secret base thing in emerald was so fucking cool man, i'm surprised they've never done anything like that again. i remember playing against one of my friends and then going into the world to see so many secret bases out there, just from a long chain of people who had connected with each other. knowing that those were made by real people was awesome.

i went and saw them last year and they fucking kicked ass, amazing show. my buddy was recording this, i recorded a tiny bit but my mic quality is ASS lol. i was mostly going in between moshing and just staring in awe xD was really fun doing a wall of death at the beginning of road of resistance. i've been listening to them for a long time so it was awesome finally getting to see them live, especially after not being able to in 2020 when that show got cancelled.

@nprofile…g80s @nprofile…tdad ips LCD panels are not that good for competitive type gaming. Amazing color and viewing angles, and usually better contrast too in my experience. Just bad latency. You notice it less if it is high refresh rate. TN is superior latency, VA is a good mix of both. IPS panels are about to get a lot better because of Nvidia's upcoming Pulsar tech.
OLED is superior in pretty much every way to all of these except for the VRR flickering. Burn in is a non issue now really.
You've probably done this already but make sure your monitor is set to use full dynamic range (0-255) instead of limited (16-235). Might help with your black levels there. Also, disable hdr in games because there is a pretty high likelihood your monitor doesn't have great hdr support and it'll just leave the image looking super washed out.

reading some critiques people have with my game is really interesting. sometimes things pop up where i'm like, oh yeah i definitely should change that, why didn't i think of that? other times, it is extremely indicative of the type of game that i made and how divisive it can be. it has its roots in old school JRPGs where there isn't anything insane going on with the combat and it has an extremely open structure. i understand why things like yellow paint and quest markers are a thing now lol.
there are also a lot of things going on with the story that require you to slowly accumulate information over time if you have questions. some things just aren't answered, on purpose. it seems like some players don't understand that, and it does partially mean that i haven't made the core gameplay interesting enough to make it worth it for some people to dive deeper into the world. something like dark souls has extremely deep story telling that isn't available unless you really look for it, but the gameplay is highly engaging so it forces people to engage with it. i think if i had focused more on that aspect, it could have attracted more people, but at the same time it wasn't something i was necessarily looking to do. i actually wanted the combat to be simple as a design choice because i value world exploration more in an RPG and i kind of just wanted to make a game i would enjoy lol.

There's not too much to write about this one other than that is an extremely solid rhythm game. It has more or less completely replaced Muse Dash for me (although I use the Muse Dash skin for the game lol) due to its higher complexity. I haven't played nearly as much of it as I would like to just because there are so many other things out there to play and do, but I come back to it pretty often.
The track list is pretty good and the DLC for the game (along with the game itself) goes on some pretty steep discounts fairly often. It seems like a huge amount of money but if you wait for those sales, it's not too bad at all. It's also worth checking key resellers because I have found some REALLY good deals on those places.
However, there is one GLARING issue. There is no Touhou or Miku whatsoever. It might sound a little ridiculous but not having Touhou or Miku in a rhythm game does legitimately lower my perception of it just a little bit. There aren't really any other rhythm game staples here either such as Brain Power. Whenever this gets brought up, I've noticed people tend to dismiss it by saying "just play one of the other dozens of rhythm games that have those songs then" but I really would like to play them in this format in this engine as well.
The game also REQUIRES an internet connection for its strict anti-cheat which is a sore spot for sure, and it makes it so you can't have custom tracks and things like that. It does keep the leaderboards and the online play squeaky clean, but there is certainly something lost there. I would love it if games would just start pushing you into offline-only mode if they detected any mods or whatever so you could still enjoy the game on your own terms how you want it to be.
Otherwise, yeah, great game, really fun, get it and some DLC packs with tracks you like on sale and you'll have a great time!

Even if you don't want to purchase the Supporter Pack and throw a fedi game dev a few bones, I would still be really appreciative if you would try the game out! It's totally free and I'm always working to patch bugs to make the game better. I've technically been working on the game for over 10 years now, it's been a huge passion project of mine for a third of my life.
There is even a version of the game you can play on Newgrounds right inside of your browser! Though I would recommend exporting your save files after every play session just in case since browser saves aren't very reliable.
