Sublime merge users: Suggestions on settings or configuration?
Everyone else: Other merge/review tools to try?

2026-05-29 14:29:11 GMT

I'm trying out new (to me) CLI tools for managing commits. A lot of people recommended sublime merge.
I'm on the trial and really liking it, BUT I miss the UI element from gitx where staged files and unstaged files move from left to right to make it visually clear what's staged and what isn't. Sublime merge does it vertically, and it's not as clear.

@nprofile…rslj I don’t think they do. It’s the board of thesus. The people who made that decision are not on the board anymore.
I literally got onboarded for the purpose of saying “I’m sorry” on behalf of Ruby central for this access incident. It’s why I encouraged you to submit an honest application if it’s what you thought they should do.
It’s all volunteers. The way to get them to do something is to volunteer. Not ask or demand they do it. Vote for change with your two feet.

@nprofile…7fqd Maybe. But given "document how to offboard someone's access" wasn't a thing that existed....it's hard to over state how far away a technical solution was from being available to solve the problem at hand.

@nprofile…g4cf yeah. The other 364 days of the year I wish we had induction though.
We have some "asian stoves" the kind that run on a disposable canister of butane (ish) fuel. Good for hotpot or camping, but not the most efficient thing in the world.

If a boil water notice comes out or you hear water service will stop, fill a tub up. You can use even dirty water to flush toilets.
A stove to cook or boil water (we’ve got gas, make sure to crack a window and ideally have a CO detector that’s battery powered). Protip: boiling a mason jar of water and putting it in a sleeping bag is amazing, just be careful you don’t burn yourself or accidentally soak the sleeping bag.

- Hand crank emergency radio
- Propane heater with monoxide detector and a 5lbs tank
- USB converters for power tool batteries
- Gallon of water per person for five days
- Water meter shutoff tool (if a leak springs outside of the house)
- Instructions to drain outdoor water heater

@nprofile…x7rc @nprofile…3rkp "with lease" is good. It's the force pushing that's a problem. It overwrites the commits so I can't actually see what the diff is of what the agent changed. So I'm forced to re-review the whole PR and in my case it was implementing longing via rubocop so the PR was huge already and the thing I asked it to do was rebase two commits so instead of introducing a problem and fixing it, it never introduced the problem. But oopsie now I have to make sure nothing else changed

I've tried other integrated platforms like "Edison" and the experience is mixed.
The built in programs like "line tracking" are stellar. But the rest of the sensor package is crap. The addon kits like "build a line plotter" seem cool on paper, but don't work well in practice.
Sphero seems popular, but is not extensible.

2026-01-09 22:13:48 GMT

The state of the educational robotics products seems lackluster. I like the microbit platform, but the ecosystem is meh.
Lots of breakout boards and sensor packages that are decent. But integrated "kits" like cars or lego/kinex physical building blocks are either wildly expensive or pure junk (or both)

2026-01-09 17:55:45 GMT

This seemingly tiny behavior difference took a massive amount of architectural change internally. Fingers crossed I don't have to roll it back:
Heroku now installs the version of bundler you have in your Gemfile.lock (previously it converted it to a "known good" version based on major/minor. This brings everyone one step closer to dev/prod parity
