honestly I want less and less smartphone requirements in society.
Related, but sadly I feel like the web is a dying thing, between the panopticon, corporate censorship, and the flood of llm bot content, it feels like it becomes less and less functional and desirable day after day. I swear at this rate I'm going to be a hermit in a few years.
Like, the one valuable thing for the internet for me is connecting with my furry friends (via socials and messaging), but I definitely wonder how much time is left before that becomes untenable.

as a long time Android user who switched to ios for the first time 3 months back, I still miss the back button/gesture a lot.
IOS offers a side/center swipe that works on 80% of the apps, but any app that wants me to touch a bubble in the top corner should die in a fire.
Also sometimes I just want to get the heck out of where I am at, and ios doesn't have that. In my mind the imperfections of the back button are less bad than its absence.
Granted, I still think that touchscreens are a miserably unpleasant user interface in general, so there's that. Maybe I just hate smartphones xD

while it's very much not my scene (don't like bullying or humiliation, or heavy partying), I'm fine with the idea of the frat party, even if it gets into darker elements because part of the joy of kink is that folks can safely explore those things.
That being said, I do really dislike the group trying to make it sound like BFC shut them down. It feels divisive in a way the community does not need. I also dislike that they kept bringing up their numbers and popularity (it was crazy popular, no doubt, but them claiming half the con attended feels WAAAAY exaggerated)... it just feels like they are trying to claim that they are as important as the con itself, or that people wouldn't attend without their party. Like I bet it was a highlight for a good number of folks, but there was a lot to that con and no one thing is going to be the main draw for the large majority of folks.
Also if the rumors of them heckling folks in the halls are true, then that really sucks. Go ham with consenting adults behind closed doors, but bringing those not into it into your scene is a no-no.

Expanded BFC thoughts
Posting this here since my BlueSky is followed by a mix of folks many who aren't babyfurs.
Went padded _almost_ the whole time at the con. Slept in undies two nights because I still need to get better at staying asleep padded. Also was in undies on the trip back because I was struggling to fit all my stuff in my bags and carrying a change was not an option.
Honestly wearing 24/7 like that in the day wasn't too bad, I fared surprisingly well!
Got to try out the crib in the nursery which was very chill. Generally it's a littler vibe than my headspace normally is, but the quiet chill space felt surprisingly comforting after the hustle bustle craziness in conspace. I felt like my mental, physical, and emotional energy was recharging inside of it xD
Got pushed around in a stroller by friends. About dies when I heard folks call out how cute I was in it. Got to eat in a highchair, kinda fun and a bit helpless. Maybe that's half the appeal of ageplay... The power dynamic of not being in control, I think it's healing for my type-A personality.
Magic Tykes was a riot, the performances were really engaging and the whole experience felt like a fever dream.
Absolutely loves the girly slumber party themed party @npub1704…pej5 hosted. It was really wonderful to get to be in that space and engage in thise aspects of being a little. As someone who leans more middle at times it was really nice. I also loved the vibe of the party, not every party needs to be a wild rager and honestly I think I prefer a more chill hangout party. Also the community needs more fun girly stuff 🎀 Also I still can't get over the gorgeous badge Blankit made for me!
Enjoyed cuddly time with friends at @npub1rkz…2dru 's party, was chill and huffy and I'm glad I got to explore that side of things more.
Really this con was me forcing myself out of my comfort zone in a lot of ways. I can be a bit shy at times, but I think I was able to thrive in this atmosphere. This con taught me a lot about where I am and where I can be in this community, and a lot of that just requires trusting myself to talk to people without fear.

2025-09-22 00:41:31 GMT

BFC was a fantastic con experience, honestly it had a lot of unique qualities to it both in how it's run and in how it felt small and intimate yet still big. The signal/noise ratio was off the charts. This is the most people I've known at a con, despite it being a fraction of the size of others.
My biggest surprise was running into so many people who were happy to see me. For years I've felt like I haven't done well enough to connect with the community at large, but it felt like a real homecoming getting there and stumbling into so many people.
Highlights include: Meeting countless wonderful folks I've only talked to online, getting to play with all the cool toys and furniture around conspace, getting to spend good quality time with friends, watching Magic Tykes, and attending wonderful parties. Definitely want this to be a yearly con
Lastly this made me further feel connected to the little community and I heavily appreciate all the talent, hard work, and wonderful people that make it a thing.

I like the philosophy (particularly that it is simple, customizable, and optimized, but there is definitely something "stiff" about how it looks. Doesn't help that the default icons look really bad.
Admittedly I dream of a day when linux desktops have nice visual design that is at least as good as like... Windows or macos was anytime in the last 20 years (minus win8). I think the 8 million competing projects spearheaded by devs instead of graphic designers kinda prevents that from happening though.

nah man, brother bear is fire (that's what the youths call things that are cool, right?).
Funny story, my Husband is a huuuuge brother bear fan, but I hadn't seen it when we started dating. He's not a little or a babyfur, but his fursona is called "Koda". As I watched it for the first time with him, as soon as I realized he named his character after the bear cub from the movie I straight up lost it and laughed my ass off.
Honestly though, brother bear is mad underrated, the art is fucking gorgeous, the story has some nice touches, and I actually like Phil Collins music so that prolly helps. Sad thing is that there is like no brother bear representation in the disney parks. They didn't even have pins for it when we were there a decade ago (both world and land). All they had was a totem pole of the characters in California Adventure, and a Koda character who occasionally pops up in Animal Kingdom.

I agree. Though at least with traditional casinos for a long time most people had to go out of their way to gamble. Both online gambling AND sports gambling just seem like terrible ideas. Gambling+smartphone addiction/addictive tech is such a damn nightmare. That AND it's advertised everywhere. Can we get back to banning advertisements for addictive substances like we've done with cigarettes?
Lotta people ruining their lives due to that trash.

I think Vinyl's biggest advantage is that it kinda forces you to listen to an album through without skipping around. While that's also its technical "weakness" I do think that it kinda forces you to slow down and focus in your musical experience.
We could probably all do with a little more slow, focused, intentional experiences these days.

hearing about code or core resources being stuffed in a discord group offends my open source sensibilities in ways I cannot describe.
Discord is a good voice chatting service and wholly sucks at every other thing it does.
As a discussion platform it's hard to search and isolated from the open web. As a chat program its notifications lack granularity so you either get the firehose or virtually nothing.
And for certain types of voice calls it even sucks because it's hard to know when chatting is happening unless you explicitly go out of your way to look for it. I'd love if I could maybe have it tell me when voice chat is popping in certain channels, but I only find that out if I happen to be looking at that room at that channel at the right time or hope the server users/owners have broadcast a server wide notification.
Discord sucks because it has good resources and communities on it, but engaging with those in a healthy, non-obsessive way is virtually impossible. You either live in it constantly or miss almost everything happening on it (even when you are _in_ the servers with folks).

those systems always want to be like "just give us gps/wifi and it'll do it magically!" And they never work right. Also those systems don't handle multiple users well. Especially since home/away is one simple toggle (which I can do with an actual button thanks to hone assistant). Like, it's so much simpler, and then I can rig up how I want it to behave with those states.

home assistant is badass. Basically if it can see/touch a thing you can make anything interact with anything.
For YEARS all I wanted was a dumb setup to make my home security system toggle my thermostat's home/away. And none of the stupid "magical solutions" (like google/nest) could do that one simple task.
With home assistant I can make my alarm (which is actually just a home assistant blueprint called alarmo and some off-the-shelf keypads and sensors) trigger my thermostat to do that simple task and it is glorious.

it's so good. Honestly it hits that late 90's teenage nihilism really good. It does a great job at making Daria likeable and entertaining to watch while actually taking effort to occasionally point out that being so detached like that isn't always a great thing from a personal and social standpoint.
Also it helps that it's a show rooted in hella nostalgia for me (both the show and the setting).

Disney+ was cool when it cost like a few bucks at launch, though that was definitely never sustainable. Netflix used to kick ass, but as you said, they never let anything go without cancelling it.
Think about how the following shows had dreadful first seasons:
Star Trek TNG
The office
Parks and rec
And the following had weak beginnings, especially compared to their heights:
Seinfeld
The simpsons
All of these are amongst the greatest shows on television ever, and Netflix's model would've pretty much cancelled them all right off the bat. Sometimes great TV takes time to become great.

A few years back when I realized that sometimes cool stuff just vanished from the internet (or especially once companies who owned things removed it from their own streaming services *cough HBO*), I just stopped trusting things to "be online".
Admittedly I downloaded a lot of stuff off FA years back (big props to gallery-dl), which was probably the right play given where things are. I do feel a little odd since I do think artists should have the right to take their stuff offline, though I also only have the stuff backed up for my own copies and am not sharing or reuploading, but it definitely can be a bit morally grey.

yeah, like part of me doesn't hate say the guardians getting added somewhere, but they are definitely tearing up a lot of old classics for the new era. And well, I like Marvel, I like Star Wars, but I am oh so tired of it currently because it's endless and I'm burnt out on it.
But yeah, the weird old stuff like country bear jamboree or haunted mansion and such just feels more authentic, or at least more novel because it was created less as a ploy to push the hot new popular thing.

as a long time fan of the parks my favorite stuff is all the weird things that were less connected to a particular "IP".
Think Pirates of the Caribbean (before it was a movie), Splash Mountain (song of the south is uhhhh bad, but that ride was very removed from that), space mountain (space is cool), the people mover.
Epcot before marvel snuck in (Figment and the Imagination, Mission Space, the Norway ride before it became frozen, and so on).
Hollywood studios was awesome when it had an animatronic xenomorph and Ripley from Alien in it (the great movie ride had a lot of "IPs" in it but it was just a love letter to cinema). And the tower of terror was rad because The Twilight Zone is dope.
I guess a lot of my favorite stuff is less tied to Disney animation, Star Wars, and Marvel. I like the parks as vibes places, cool little fantasy worlds and play pretend versions of real places.
