Feels especially meaningful to share this Cardinal excerpt now as I finally have my own physical modules in an old case to play with, after relying on institutional access or years of staying in the virtual world. I still love my virtual ones for sure. The software versions have been immensely helpful in developing my understanding of which modules I actually want in my physical playground.
And now: a real life Plaits, getting lost in the Programmable Complex Waveform Generator, and making a cozy space for my spring reverb tank to not hum, and having so much fun with Tyso-Daiko, which is wavetable so digital! and so on… and old Disting that Os left in the case...
When I finally got my hands on a physical Plaits and saw its beautiful aesthetics and easy user interface, I had goosebumps. After playing with it on screen for so many years, you know.
Curious question for you my fedimates: how does your workflow and sound change when moving between software and hardware? Does the physicality change what you make - your timbral choices, your sense of time, anything central to your practice?

2) Inspired me to jam with Hetrick modules after seeing their references to them here a number of times. Phasor Geometry teamed with some wave destruction pulse-driven madness made my day as I expanded my vcv patches. Hoping to show some of these in my online gig with gravitons later in May.
Sounds fun with Freakbox and LSDJ/Game Boy joining them but they just do so much on their own.

Never truly connected with Turkish diaspora properly in places I visit, and in the UK where I moved to in 2021. reasons for not connecting are long story… well there are not many people from my region (west of Istanbul, near Greece and Bulgaria) that I encounter abroad in diaspora contexts anyway… but that’s not the main topic:
I was going to say despite not culturally and socially connecting with things there is one very Turkish thing that is deeply imprinted in me: We don’t have any genders in pronouns so it is always confusing for me to do that extra processing to add the relevant article (if applicable for that language) or produce female/male pronouns. We just have ONE third-person singular pronoun that is used for everyone and it corresponds to she/he/it, hers/his/its and that’s it. It is “o” / “O”
It is a gender neutral language, I love it. This always made it hard for me to adjust to gendered languages and their pronouns, with me ending up using the wrong ones at times. If I did that to you please forgive me! I don’t think I did but I may have done…
other than that, Turkish language has syntax structures similar to Mongolian, Japanese, and Korean. So your brain process for English is exact opposite ways, not like having the verb in the second place as in some of the Germanic languages but more like having each sentence item first, listing them in a syntax order with subject first (if applicable as it is sometimes a suffix in verb), time expressions, places, etc, with verb being the last one.
Okay thanks for listening to my TedTALK on linguistics. That’s end of my series in the field. But lol I have an undergrad degree in the field, from many many years ago lol… I know I write mainly about music and tech but you know… can be interesting for fellow tldr.nettime people—there is already interest in music here and I am aware it is broader. It is one of those days again when I enjoy @npub1x08…469m’s cliqhop IDM to chase the gem I’ve just heard, and then I find out it is from someone’s archive from a long time ago. Then I find it on archive and discogs, and it is associated with one of the labels I love “Oh this one again!!!”. In this case, it is S27/Section 27 that is finally updating their bandcamp returning with nice selection of music! Lydia Morgan/Mammal Panic appreciation post. Thanks for soothing my hunger for Flashcore in London last night! This short snippet of video that I took with my “exquisite” photo skills doesn’t do much really… I don’t know many sound artists that deliver this kind of chaos with speedcore rhythm and dark feedback ambiences. I was lucky to be on the same lineup with her back in December when I launched my Hypnopomp EP.

mind you. I’m teaching electronic music composition and history, and running a programme since september. The nature of it, at least I try to do so, is slightly different from uni as it’s a conservatoire but when I say boring academia I don’t mean to offend anyone. It’s just sometimes feeling like experiments and lots of blabbering that’s not really resulting in exciting human elements. That term became used in a lot of contexts in that sense that doesn’t match with what a creative is trying to do, like not recognising the full frame of things.

yeah the term is widespread in boring academia realms and non-academia music scene and IT. I wonder what Xenakis would say about it associated with it. I mean definitely brian eno coined the term generative. Sounds like a good combo of tools. Sounds unique when you enjoy the stuff and come up with your own rig whatever anyone else says or does. MIDI effects result in magical algorithms. M4live note echo basically midi note delay and Live’s Random or simpler or warp modes give endless options. Most of my stuff is also Ableton

One of my highlights in 2025 was seeing DJ Food's Boards of Canada-centric "O Is For Orange" AV set. You don’t easily get to hear many DJs play BoC. Or when they do it is usually the same track (even if they are beautiful). Thank you #DJFood for bringing this to us. Music discovery is a beautiful journey, and our favourites may change over time but for me one of them has always been on top of my list for over 15 years and it is Boards of Canada (+ Autechre in different ways) BoC touches something deep and beautiful and simply makes me feel good. I’ve been attempting to heal struggling with severe anxiety, so I hear you that it could be worse but I think even for those with less damaged nervous systems this thing does bad magic.
