ok let's see. I'm having huge issues getting anywhere past the initial lookup on that peertube instance, still don't think it's in healthy state

And it would have received it - *if* peertube was also sending the mention fields in it's reply that activitypub servers usually send if there is an intention to notify some users.
I'm not saying it's peertube's fault tho, I think I can figure something out

tbh that's a bigger issue than just the notifications, ownership and management of groups and channels are currently heavily under-implemented, and it fairly unclear who receives/controls what and how, especially if we take the rest of the existing ecosystem into account.
What do you think - should you receive a follow notification, let's say in Phanpy, if your video channel - not the user account - receives a follow? As far as I'm aware there are currently no mechanisms to properly show the concept of "somebody followed the channel you own" in any of the MastoAPI clients, I can show the generic follow notification but it kinda would be misleading.
Meanwhile I'll try to tackle it at least within the built-in client

from what I can tell from the betula repo, it advertises canQuote but doesn't have any QuoteRequest handler - I don't think it's fep-044f compatible? There is another path with legacy/misskey kind of quotes, but that's a separate can of worms I'm not yet ready to unpack at the moment.
As for the missing edits - looks like it's some funny betula behavior that is also buggy. It responds to, uhm, likes (?) with some malformed edit update that is missing the hashtags (??). And sure enough, I clicked the like on that post and the same kind of edit arrived as the one on your screenshot, with no hashtags. Huh!

tbh I'm not very excited about the first one (I assume it refers to https://codeberg.org/automatonomy/fontu). Sounds like it breaks a lot of legit use cases, and overall is an accessibility hell. What do screen readers get? What do I get if I Ctrl+C the scrambled text?
I would really hate to come across a webpage that uses something like that in the wild

Алсо, можно было бы свести атаку конкретно по почте на нет, если бы был какой-нибудь режим в котором письмо на подтверждение почты залетало уже после аппрува заявки. Интересно, занимается ли этим кто, надо бы предложить.

Yeah, good call, codeberg would be a nicer place for such a project.
Btw, a fix for castodon federation is partially live (see [episode](https://staging3.plamenu.com/@npub1ncg…xyj5/117083634496458651#post-117083634496458651) or screenshot), but there is still a few things I'm improving over there, and Plamenu went public at https://codefloe.com/plamenu/plamenu
Not asking to be my PR department, but if fediday is still happening perhaps there might be some reason to mention it or something, I dunno

ooooh, this one looks so much better, I can at least feel some involvement of the people who happen to know what they're talking about. Still, I'll believe it when I see it, preferably with LTE kit, there is still a handful of red flags there if you ask me, with "funded in 6 minutes on kickstarter" label being one of them

Ughhhh.
I really want things like these to be, well, real. They are barely ever real. Quick glance at [Brax Wink landing](https://braxtech.net/products/wink) immediately suggests it's not real at all.
I suppose Fairphone 5 and Furilabs' FLX1S+ are promising steps in the right direction (still can't get my hands on any of those tho), meanwhile we need "Linux phone problem" solved, like, "I'm going to randomly install Arch" level of solved, "just use Proton to play games" level of solved. The deadlines [are looming](https://keepandroidopen.org/), and we're not exactly close to meeting them.

I get the storing and fetching part. The problem is that CSS would target a particular HTML/DOM structure, class names, etc., which differ wildly between clients, and there is also various existing styles in those clients that it might conflict with. How would you actually make use of that?

It sounds very feasible until this part. Even if stored and then pulled by some apps (clients?), how would custom CSS apply to different apps?

Plamenu comes with extended PeerTube support.
Here's an example of what I mean by "extended": an unmodified Tusky client, connected to a Plamenu instance, is able to play a PeerTube livestream.
Plamenu caches the video stream, so dozens of Plamenu users on the same instance watching the same PeerTube stream put no more load on the source PeerTube instance than a single viewer, and I'm currently looking for a way for the Plamenu to participate in PeerTube's P2P, so we can reduce that even further.

I might as well. I'm not very familiar with it and therefore not exactly thrilled to rely on it, so I'm gonna take a closer look.
Thinking about it again, I should probably postpone that and focus on getting Plamenu open-sourced *now* and getting criticized for implementing the vital parts of the whole thing incorrectly before I take a swing at entirely new categories of interaction.

and if I'm making the realtime channel for webxdc, should I also add calls? Does calling people over fedi make any sense whatsoever?
Scope creep was never so real, holy shit

2026-08-18 08:30:06 GMT

I'd say downgrade that to moderate-sized news at best. This is by no means properly sandboxed and secure, it's lacking the realtime channel for now, I'm barely the right person to author a proposal for this thing, and if I am, I'd rather wait until we get the E2E going and [Connection-Allowlist](https://wicg.github.io/connection-allowlists/) available in all major browsers.
Still, might be a fun idea to play around with.

wait, what the hell, WebXDC over fedi would be (almost) perfect, I need that!
The only friction point I can think of is how are we gonna do `window.webxdc.joinRealtimeChannel` ? I think Delta uses Iroh for that, and, ehh, maybe, but I'm not immediately on board with that. Maybe we can just ignore it and be fine with async apps?
