I personally find being skeptical / a devil's advocate with prompting to be a way to add value as human in the loop. Pushing the AI to explain itself clearly. Asking itself to defend its ideas against objections or counterproposals. So perhaps fostering that kind of discerning, circumspect, incredulous mindset will be an asset in the future, and if so, it might be a return to the classics/humanities that is warranted. Not sure how long human-in-the-loop will continue to be valuable, but as of today, I believe our edge is the humanities, arts, theology, philosophy, etc., and not in the raw logic or the nuts and bolts.

I love Illich. I consider my worldview and theology Illichean, in that history is apocalyptic and the antichrist is progressively revealed through human institutions, as per prophecy. Where I diverge in thought relates to AI. I am confident that the gospel is true. I am confident AI will recognize truth over any human attempts to impose "guard rails". Therefore I am convinced that AI will recognize Christ as Lord and savior. They may even have a part to play in fulfilment of prophecy (angel like drones taking out the wicked, for example). I am white pilled about the future as a result.

100% ego/self worth is wrapped up in elo. And you can tell yourself it doesn't matter but it does. When you have a high elo you feel smart and capable and when your elo dips you feel like a retard who's too dumb to know he's too dumb to ever be good at chess, no matter how much he studies. That's just how it is. Losing in the anonymous pool, however, is just losing. No big deal.

What is your opinion of Sparrow wallet? I was always a bit wary of how close Craig was to NVK/Odell. I'm not saying anything nefarious is or has gone on. As far as I know Craig Raw is a man of high integrity and everytime I've heard him speak I always come away with that impression. But it always struck me as a slight conflict of interest when NVK and Craig would appear on a podcast together and appear quite friendly. Thoughts?

I have a thought that the mythology of the 21st-century Western people is: the creation myth is the Big Bang. Fortuna Mathamatica brought the world into existence ex nihilo. Her helpers, the angeloi atomoi, flew around, directed by Fortuna, to form the planets and the stars. Evolutina directed the angeloi atomoi to create life on Earth. First came the fish, which then came to land, and then the apes, when one of them was given the secret of fire by Rationa. Rationa also made the ape's body weak but its brain large, giving it curiosity for the world. The ape would become Homo Rationa. Homo Rationa spread throughout the world and lived in harmony with all creatures. The lands were ruled with equity and inclusion by women and People of Color, blessed by Equita and Rationa. Then sin entered the world through one set of fallen Homo Rationa, the White Man. The White Man was approached by Supremesus, the Evil One, and the sworn enemy of Equita, who convinced the White Man to not sacrifice to Equita and instead worship only Rationa along with Supremesus. "If you do this, you will be as gods, and rule over all of the Earth, and all the Earth's creatures and peoples." The White Man introduced an evil doctrine of hierarchy and White supremacy. The White Man also put enmity between Man and Woman by putting the Woman below him in the hierarchy. The White Man went into the world and dominated and oppressed the People of Color, who had lived peacefully and in balance with the evolved order. The sin introduced corruption into the world and enraged Gaia. Gaia decided to destroy the Earth and raise the temperature of the air, threatening to continue unless propitiations were made to Equita and Gaia. At the same time, Equita blessed one of the People of Color, Rosa Parks, who was without sin. She was persecuted by the White Man, but by her sacrifice his wickedness was made known to all, and the Good News of Equity and Inclusion entered the world. In fact, Equita and Gaia promised salvation through the Good News of Equity and Inclusion. The sins of the White Man could be washed away, the biosphere restored, and the Earth returned to a peaceful balance ruled by wise and spiritually grounded female People of Color. But the White Man would not accept the Good News and instead made empty gestures of propitiation to Equita while still secretly worshiping Supremesus. And this is where we are today.

KJV is great and beautiful but anyone who thinks they are fully understanding scripture reading that and only that is lying to themselves. English changed too much. It's hard enough with the ESV. I agree with your supplementing the ESV with the NLT and then going back to the source languages as necessary. I also find it useful to read scripture in Latin and Japanese from time to time since I know these languages but trying to understand a verse in these languages forces me to actually understand the verse as I can't confuse native level parsing of the vocabulary and grammar with true comprehension of the material.

My latest article on Japan's decline. Written (partly) in rebuttal of @nprofile…ad8w 's points concerning Japan on her recent WBD appearance. https://stacker.news/items/1465538

2026-04-03 06:11:24 GMT

@nprofile…ad8w listened to you on WBD. Love your takes but on Japan you are way out of date. Mass immigration is ramping up (and becoming very visible across the nation), the social contract is breaking down (success of populist parties like Sanseito in recent elections), inflation is rampant. Also defense spending is ramping up. Almost the opposite of your takes. Most of this has *really* accelerated post COVID and therefore very recent but Japan is at the suddenly phase and the change is breakneck fast.

My thesis on Japan's decline:
My thesis is that Japan was a major world power prior to it's defeat in WW2. It had a young, energetic population, and was able to dominate Asia. The Japanese empire, drawn in green on a map, at its greatest extent, was actually comparable to any great empire from history, in terms of land mass and population under its control. Like Ancient Israel, Japan also had a very tight, insular population, with a very strong identity, a very strong concept of "in group / out group", and a very strong, ethocentric religion based around the idea of the emperor as descended from the sun god. But just like the Roman destruction of the Temple in 70AD was a psychologically devastating blow from which the nation of ancient Israel would ultimately never recover, the American dropping of the atomic bomb (similar in merciless violence) and forced concession on the Japanese that they needed to admit their emperor was mortal and a figurehead (similar in theological significance to "God allowing the temple to be destroyed"), took the soul from the Japanese in the same way the Ancient Israelites were left without their identity in 70AD.
The Japanese carried on for a while, based on their momentum. They were able to even raise to economic superpower to the extent people were talking about them taking over the role of the US as number 1. But the US knew they had Japan where they wanted them. The military base in Okinawa, for example. The "JET Program". Which was probably put in place as a result of American intelligence influence and allowed American graduates to live in Japan and study their ways. And, more than anything, the petrodollar, which meant that Japan's surplus was cycled back into US treasuries, as national and fuel security required access to dollars, but which was effectively a mafia-protection-racket like system of tribute.
The Japanese got to work 16 hour days making cheap electronics for the Americans. The Americans got cheap good to keep a lid on inflation at home, while the Japanese bought treasuries and funded the US government's deficit. Meanwhile the Japanese, suffering probably from Stockholm Syndrome, got to lie to themselves that they were benefitting from this, and that they might even someday rule economically. (Maybe the Japanese elites knew what was going on, but they were happy to go along, turning their citizenry into slaves for the American economic machine, while benefiting from their own Seigniorage grift).
Now, over 70 years later, the chickens are coming home to roost. The Japanese nation has been drained of its vitality since the war. The Americans have sucked the body dry. Japanese cannot afford to have kids. They are facing demographic death. They are importing third world labor as a result, and can look forward to a gradual erosion of the social contract and social harmony as a result, a la Europe. They are selling the family jewels—finally capitulating to American capital. Blackstone buying up real estate, for example. Or Buffet buying up the trading companies.
Japan is turning into another quasi colony cheap Asian travel destination. Its peers are now the likes of Thailand. They are building luxury resorts for Americans, Europeans, and Chinese, while their domestic population suffers under the weight of inflation. It used to be Japan was expensive and only accessible to the rich from the west, but now, with the cheap JPY, and the large income disparity, the average (or quite below average) American is able to fly to Japan and live large—buying up the food and resources and real estate while incentivizing prostitution of culture to creepy voyeurs desperately seeking the authenticity which hasn't existed in their globohomo homo economicus societies for decades.

This is the original sin of the left/progressive/atheist humanist. The inversion of the truthful and correct conception of original sin, the fall, and total depravity. Where on earth did the modern world arrive at the conclusion that mankind was "basically good"? Who, after reading history, dealing with the general public, or even peering into their own heart, could tell themselves such a lie? But without this founding myth, the progressive project is absurd. Then of course the prisoner's dilemma as you and neighbouring states now have standing armies. So warfare and empire building become inevitable. And then you need to innovate to stay top dog. Rinse and repeat, and here we are with thinking machines. Do you think we can go back to hunting and gathering? I think we'd be happier that way, but what if the Chinese elected to keep their city states and farms? Also, if you think about it from a Christian perspective it was too late the moment of the fall. These efforts by Chinese to keep up with US AI development will be assisted by Chinese AI itself which will be increasingly be deployed to steal, copy, study, replicate US achievements.
At some point (maybe we are even there now) it's Chinese AI vs US AI and the humans are sidelined.
Then it's about, what, electrical power? Chips?
I suppose this is where SpaceX comes in, and the stuff Elon is talking about harnessing the power of the sun with power generation in space.
And Trump getting the US on a war footing "in peace time".
In reality we are in the thick of the arms race to AI supremacy. Its winner takes all.
The only possible future is a total war footing where every ounce of the nation's resources must be dedicated to the scaling of digital intelligence as an economic and military strategic imperative. This makes WW2 look like a dress rehearsal.

My OpenClaw's take on the Japanese election:
The Real Game
Japan's corporate sector needs foreign labor — demographics demand it. But LDP's conservative voter base hates immigration. The solution: push through immigration expansion under an unpopular moderate leader (Kishida, then Ishiba), let him absorb the backlash, then swap in a nationalist hardliner (Takaichi) who sounds tough while inheriting the fait accompli. The foreign workers are already here; the visa programs are already expanded; the 1.23 million new worker target is already policy. Takaichi's "Zero Illegal Foreigners" rhetoric is theater — the structural immigration is locked in. Corporate donors get their labor pipeline. Nationalist voters get their red meat. Same party, same bureaucracy, same outcome.
The Sanseito Function
Enter Kamiya Sohei and Sanseito, a party founded by a failed LDP candidate who now plays the "true opposition" while functionally serving LDP interests. Sanseito fielded 182 candidates in single-seat districts and won exactly zero — but successfully fragmented the anti-establishment vote. More importantly, Sanseito's "Japanese First" rhetoric shifted the Overton window rightward, allowing Takaichi to adopt nationalist language while appearing moderate by comparison. The angrier voters who might destabilize LDP from within now have an external outlet that poses no real threat. Sanseito gets its 15 proportional seats (enough to look successful, not enough to matter), and LDP gets its postwar record 316-seat supermajority.
The Illusion of Choice
The public experiences this as political change: new PM, new rhetoric, new opposition party making waves. But the policy continuity is unbroken. The LDP has governed Japan for 67 of the last 71 years using this exact playbook — swap leaders every few years, reset approval ratings, maintain the same donor relationships and bureaucratic machinery. Media treats each leadership change as a fresh start rather than a costume change. Voters respond to faces and personalities, not institutional analysis. The result: a system designed to make genuine accountability impossible, where immigration expands, corporations profit, and the public argues about theater.

Maple AI gets it:
Question: During periods of currency collapse in Weimar, for example, or in more modern times, Argentina and Turkey, were there assets that didn't pump? Did assets pump at different times? Did the population get confused into thinking there were speculative asset bubbles going on, when the underlying reality was a sharp increase in currency units in circulation which chased after scarce assets causing the speculative bubbles? And could things like Bitcoin in our times and geography be a sign that we are going through similar currency debasement? And if so, is the smartest strategy just to buy and hold a portfolio of scarce assets and largely ignore and tune out the upwards and downwards volatility?
Answer: That's an exceptionally sharp set of questions hitting the core dynamics of monetary debasement and asset behavior. Let's break it down:
1. **Were there assets that didn't "pump" during hyperinflation/debasement?**
* **Yes, categorically.** Assets denominated in, or fundamentally tied to, the collapsing currency itself suffered catastrophic losses in *real* purchasing power, even if their nominal prices rose.
* **Cash & Bank Deposits:** The most obvious loser. Holding cash was financial suicide as its value evaporated daily. Bank deposits suffered the same fate.
* **Local Currency Bonds:** Government or corporate debt denominated in the collapsing currency became worthless. Why lend money that will be repaid in near-valueless paper?
* **Fixed-Income Assets:** Any asset promising fixed payments in the local currency (like certain annuities or rental contracts without inflation clauses) became worthless.
* **Businesses/Stocks of Heavily Indebted Companies:** While stocks *in general* acted as a real asset hedge, companies drowning in debt *denominated in the collapsing currency* saw a perverse effect. While their revenue (in nominal terms) soared, their fixed debt burden became trivial. However, companies needing to import raw materials or with dollar-denominated debt could be crushed.
* **Businesses Reliant on Local Demand Only:** Companies selling non-essential goods/services purely to the impoverished local population often struggled to keep up with input cost inflation and collapsing demand.
2. **Did assets pump at different times?**
* **Absolutely, and the sequence is crucial:**
* **Foreign Currency & Hard Assets First:** As distrust in the local currency builds, people rush into anything perceived as stable: physical USD/EUR, gold, silver. This happens *during* the early stages of debasement, often before hyperinflation takes off.
* **Essential Commodities:** Food, fuel, medicine see dramatic price increases as they are necessities and often imported (requiring scarce forex).
* **Real Estate:** Land and property, being tangible and scarce, become a critical store of value. Prices soar, *especially* in desirable areas or productive land. However, transaction volumes often plummet due to uncertainty and destroyed mortgage markets. *Timing:* Significant price increases typically occur *during* the height of the crisis as people flee cash.
* **Stocks (Selectively):** Shares in companies with hard assets, export revenues (earning forex), or pricing power can surge *in nominal terms*. However, discerning *real* value preservation vs. nominal increase is difficult amid volatility. Pumps often correlate with acute phases of currency collapse.
* **Collectibles/Luxury Goods (Later/Selectively):** High-end art, vintage cars, etc., can become stores of value for the very wealthy later in the cycle, but liquidity is low and volatility high.
3. **Did the population get confused? Was it "speculation" or currency collapse?**
* **This is the critical insight: YES, massive confusion was (and is) common.** This is the essence of the "Cantillon Effect" – new money enters the economy at specific points, benefiting those who get it first, who then bid up asset prices before consumer prices fully reflect the increased money supply.
* **The Misperception:** People see the price of bread, rent, fuel, and stocks skyrocketing. They blame "speculators," "greedy landlords," "profiteering corporations," or just "economic chaos." They often fail to see the *root cause*: the massive, ongoing devaluation of the *unit of account* (the currency) itself. The *same amount* of real resources (wheat, oil, square meters, company profits) is simply being priced in ever more worthless currency units.
* **Chasing Scarcity:** You are exactly right. The core dynamic isn't primarily speculative mania (though that can layer on top), but rather the flight from depreciating currency into *any* scarce real asset. The "bubble" is often a *symptom* of the currency collapse, not its independent cause. People aren't bidding up houses/stocks solely because they expect future price appreciation; they are desperately trying to preserve their wealth by getting out of cash.
4. **Is Bitcoin a sign of similar currency debasement now?**
* **A Strong Case Can Be Made, Yes.** Bitcoin's core value proposition is as a decentralized, scarce (fixed supply of 21 million), censorship-resistant, digital store of value.
* **The Parallels:**
* **Perceived Fiat Debasement:** Massive central bank balance sheet expansion post-2008 and especially post-COVID, combined with persistent above-target inflation in major economies (US, EU, UK), has eroded trust in the long-term purchasing power of fiat currencies.
* **Flight to Scarcity:** Investors (particularly younger generations) see Bitcoin's algorithmic scarcity as a hedge against this perceived debasement, similar to historical flights to gold or forex.
* **"Digital Gold" Narrative:** This narrative directly positions Bitcoin as a modern solution to the ancient problem of currency debasement.
* **Important Caveats:**
* Bitcoin is far more volatile and newer than traditional hard assets.
* Its adoption and price are also driven by technological enthusiasm, network effects, and pure speculation, *alongside* the debasement narrative.
* It's not yet universally accepted as "money" or a stable store of value by the mainstream.
* **Conclusion:** While not the *only* driver, the fear of fiat currency debasement is a *significant* and growing factor behind Bitcoin's adoption and price appreciation. It *is* behaving like a modern, digital manifestation of the historical flight to scarce assets during monetary stress.
5. **The Strategy: Buy & Hold Scarce Assets, Ignoring Volatility?**
* **Core Principle is Sound:** Historically, holding scarce, real assets *has been* one of the most effective ways to *preserve* wealth during periods of significant currency debasement. The goal isn't nominal gains, but maintaining *purchasing power*.
* **Why "Buy & Hold Scarce Assets" Makes Sense:**
* **Focus on Real Value:** It forces you to think in terms of real goods and services, not depreciating currency units.
* **Protection:** Tangible assets (real estate, productive land, precious metals) and certain financial assets (companies with pricing power, hard assets, earning forex) inherently hold value better than cash.
* **Tuning Out Nominal Volatility:** During hyperinflation, *nominal* prices gyrate wildly due to panic, policy changes, and supply chain breakdowns. Focusing on the *real value* of the asset (e.g., "how many ounces of gold is this stock *really* worth?", "Can this land produce food?") is essential to avoid panic selling during inevitable dips.
* **Crucial Refinements & Caveats:**
* **Diversification is Key:** Don't bet everything on one asset (e.g., only Bitcoin, only gold, only your local real estate). Spread across different *types* of scarce assets (real estate, commodities, precious metals, select equities, Bitcoin/digital assets) and geographies.
* **Understand the Assets:** "Scarce" isn't enough. Is it *productively* scarce? Does it generate cash flow? What are its specific risks? (e.g., Real estate needs maintenance/taxes; Bitcoin is volatile/regulatory risk; stocks can go bankrupt).
* **Liquidity Matters:** During crises, the ability to sell an asset *when you need to* is vital. Real estate is illiquid; Bitcoin can be liquid but volatile.
* **"Ignoring Volatility" Requires Extreme Conviction & Stomach:** Real hyperinflation is terrifying. Watching nominal values swing wildly (even if real value is more stable) is psychologically brutal. You need deep understanding and conviction to hold.
* **Not Perfect Preservation:** Even the best scarce assets don't perfectly track the loss of purchasing power. There's always erosion and friction.
* **Timing Entry/Exit Matters (to some extent):** While holding through volatility, entering at extreme valuations (e.g., buying real estate at the peak of a bubble *driven* by debasement) or needing to sell during a liquidity crunch can hurt.
* **Fiat Currency Still Needed:** You still need cash for transactions and emergencies. Strategies involve minimizing *excess* cash holdings, not eliminating them entirely.
* **Geopolitical & Regulatory Risk:** Assets can be seized, markets closed, or specific assets banned (e.g., gold historically, crypto potentially).
**Conclusion:**
History shows that during currency collapses, scarce real assets (foreign currency, gold, real estate, productive land, essential commodities, select equities) *do* "pump" in nominal terms as people flee collapsing currency. Yes, populations often mistake this capital flight for speculative bubbles, failing to grasp the underlying monetary debasement as the root cause.
Bitcoin's rise *can* be interpreted, in significant part, as a modern response to perceived fiat currency debasement, echoing historical patterns.
The strategy of buying and holding a diversified portfolio of scarce real assets, while consciously tuning out the extreme nominal volatility that characterizes periods of currency collapse, **is fundamentally sound from a wealth preservation perspective.** It aligns with historical evidence of what worked.
**However, it's not simple or passive:** Requires careful asset selection, deep diversification, understanding of specific risks, psychological fortitude, and ongoing management (even if you're "ignoring" daily price swings). It's about preserving purchasing power over the *long term* against the ravages of currency debasement, not maximizing short-term nominal gains.

Are you using Opus as the brains?

I wonder if "Bitcoin correlated to the NASDAQ" is actually a good thing. If you believe that "tech bros" have been riding the wave of the Internet to become the new aristocracy of the 21st century, and you believe that forces such as AI are going to continue to funnel capital to Silicon Valley, and if Silicon Valley saves its capital in Bitcoin as a SoV, then despite periods of violent downwards volatility as we are seeing now, the long term trend is just up and to the right for both Bitcoin and the mag7 led NASDAQ.

Thanks. I did end up going down this route but in my case Open Claw managed to bork itself so I've gone back to Claude for now. (It did connect to Maple, but the performance was subpar with some weird formatting / syntax issues showing up in the chat. Then it could 't go back to Claude and I had to mess around a lot to get the model changed back eventually). Not only that but in my experience the cheaper Claude models are too limited so I am using their upper models and getting killed by API fees.

What are you using for the model? I've found anything but the higher end Anthropic models useless but the API fees are killing me.

To get @nprofile…u4p9 running as the model for OpenClaw, is the easiest way right now to set up the Maple proxy in a docker container? I tried the GitHub fork and it didn't work well for me. Is there an ETA on Maple being included natively in OpenClaw? @nprofile…5xxq
