Granted. And I wish this was true in the case of BIP-110.
My point is that we do not know. After 2017, many of us believed that nodes ultimately ruled the network. The BIP-110 episode calls that belief into question.
Miners were able to overrule a proposal supported by roughly 20% of node runners. Would they be able to overrule 75%? If so, what would that imply about Bitcoin's governance?

2026-08-11 08:32:25 GMT

Is Bitcoin a Captured Project? Reflections After the BIP-110 Fiasco
The most important question in Bitcoin right now is whether it is a captured project. The short answer is: we do not know yet.
On the one hand, miners managed to ignore a change proposal that did not undergo URSF. Whether they colluded or not does not matter. The crucial point is that three mining pools could decide the fate of the network. That is scary as fuck.
On the other hand, BIP-110 was a minority soft fork supported by approximately 20% of nodes. Would miners have behaved differently if BIP-110 had managed to convince a majority of the network? We do not know, but that is also scary.
At this moment, I think a hard fork is a premature idea. Before unleashing this demon, we should figure out how to test the network and answer the question above: do nodes control the network? Would it matter, for example, if a majority of them supported BIP-110?
To do this, we need a BIP that can convince more users.
Apart from this, we should focus on:
1. Supporting the development of competitive and conservative node implementations. We have Knots. We have the Production Ready idea. That is a start.
2. Supporting the decentralisation of mining.
We should also thank the Roughnecks. They have fallen in battle, but they will remain legends.
For now, we should all return to the legacy chain and work on putting it to a new test. One that will allow us to find out whether node runners are at the wheel or not.

Fair point.
I didn’t mean “no one offers products/services for sats” literally. Many people already do, and I do too. I fully agree we should actively seek them out and pay them in sats.
That said, the broader point about breaking the vicious circle still stands. We need more bitcoiners accepting sats on the market to build real momentum.

2026-06-28 07:39:47 GMT

Bootstrapping Vicious Circle 💀
No one offers products/services for sats →
because no one accepts sats for products/services →
because no one offers products/services for sats.
The goal is to break it.
Start offering your products or services for sats even if:
• there seems to be no market yet
• it costs you something
• it feels inconvenient right now
Play the long game. Bitcoin is here to stay. Those who build the Bitcoin economy early will be rewarded later. ⚡

Thanks for the input, Nico. ⚡
It’s still early. We’re basically bootstrapping the Bitcoin bookstore business from scratch. The fiat competition is well-established and extremely convenient.
Still, we need to break the vicious circle:
No one offers books for sats →
because no one accepts sats for books →
because no one offers books for sats.
That’s why what you’re doing is essential — creating the option to buy books with sats.
The good news? It’s neither difficult nor expensive. Anyone can do it with little effort, while still using Amazon for the general no-coiner market.
Bitcoin authors should lead the way. That’s what I’m trying to say.

I guess we need a nostr-based bookstore. For now, you can simply create a website and run BTCPay Server.

No doubt Amazon has a great service. It’s by far the best tool to reach no-coiners around the planet.
My post was not against Amazon.
It’s all about creating an additional option for those who want to use sats as MoE, instead of forcing them to use fiat.

2026-06-27 06:46:03 GMT

⚡ To all Bitcoin book authors
Too many of your books are only available for fiat on Amazon.
This is disappointing.
You expect people to adopt Bitcoin, yet you don’t make it easy for them to pay you directly in sats.
Keep Amazon for no-coiners. That’s fine. But why not offer both?
Your Bitcoin readers want to pay you in sats without feeding the big tech behemoths. Make it possible. Practice what you preach.

I didn't really like this translation so I worked a bit with Claude to produce a better one. Here it is along with some notes on the hardest translation challenges.
Fun Fact: Clause claims that the closing line, "Bujać — to my, panowie szlachta!" — is the single hardest line in the poem 😂
# To the Common Man
Julian Tuwim (1929) (translated from the Polish)
When once again, with paste still wet,
they slap new notices on the wall,
when "TO THE PEOPLE," "TO THE TROOPS"
sound the alarm in stark black type,
and any oaf, any green pup,
falls for that same old ancient lie —
that one must march and fire the guns,
must murder, plunder, poison, burn;
when they set out, by a thousand means,
to drag the homeland through every case,
to dazzle you with a painted crest,
to goad you on with "history's claim" —
with talk of borders, glory, soil,
of fathers, grandfathers, and flags,
of heroes — and of victims too;
when out step bishop, pastor, rabbi
to bless the rifle in your hands,
because the Lord himself, from heaven,
has whispered: for the homeland — fight;
when the front-page headlines start to shriek
and turn rank and coarse, like rotting meat,
and a herd of frenzied women starts
pelting the "soldier-boys" with flowers —
— O my unlettered friend,
my fellow man, from here or anywhere!
Know this: it's kings and bloated lords
who ring the bells of dread for you;
know that it's humbug, a common con,
when they cry out to you: "Shoulder arms!" —
that somewhere oil has gushed for them
and brought them in a crop of dollars;
that something in their books won't square,
that somewhere they've sniffed out full vaults,
or greasy crooks have set their eyes
on some fatter tariff on cotton.
So smash your rifle on the cobblestones!
The blood is yours — the oil is theirs!
And shout it out from town to town,
defending what your own blood earned:
"Lying — that's *our* trade, my lords!"
---
# A few notes on the hardest spots
"Ojczyznę szarpać deklinacją" (lit. "to tear/wrench the Fatherland through declension") — Tuwim is mocking propagandists who drag the word *Ojczyzna* (Fatherland) through every Polish grammatical case in speech after speech. English has no equivalent grammatical pun, so "drag the homeland through every case" keeps the legal/bureaucratic flavor of "case" as a faint echo, but the joke about *declension* specifically is untranslatable.
"Kiedy rozścierwi się, rozchami" — these are near-nonce words Tuwim coined from *ścierwo* (carrion/carcass) and *cham* (boor), describing the press's screaming headlines as something that rots and coarsens. I rendered it as "turn rank and coarse, like rotting meat" to keep the carrion image, though the deliberate ugliness of the invented Polish verbs themselves can't really be replicated.
"krwawica" — an old/dialect word for property or earnings gained through blood and sweat; it's not "blood money" (ill-gotten) but the opposite — what you've honestly bled for. "What your own blood earned" tries to hold both the literal and figurative sense together.
The closing line, "Bujać — to my, panowie szlachta!" — this is the single hardest line in the poem. *Panowie szlachta* (roughly "you noble lords/gentry") is an old, half-ironic form of address; *bujać* means to bluff, fib, or run a con. The line plays on an old self-mocking szlachta boast about their own swagger and bluffing — and Tuwim has the common man fling it back at the rulers as an accusation: *deceiving people is your specialty, not mine*. "Lying — that's our trade, my lords!" keeps the sarcastic borrowed voice, but the historical resonance of the phrase for a Polish reader (and the slight ambiguity of who "our" refers to) doesn't fully survive translation.
Form — the original is a single unbroken 40-line stretch in regular nine-syllable lines with alternating exact rhymes, built to sound like a speech or proclamation. I broke it into stanzas for English readability and didn't force a rhyme scheme, since chasing rhyme in English on top of this much dense, idiomatic content would have meant sacrificing accuracy — I prioritized the meaning, the register (deliberately crude and colloquial — "lout," "humbug," "con," "crooks"), and the forward-driving, indignant rhythm instead.

It’s a powerful poem. The Polish original is a linguistic masterpiece, as is most of Tuwim’s work.
Do prostego człowieka
JULIAN TUWIM
Gdy znów do murów klajstrem świeżym
Przylepiać zaczną obwieszczenia,
Gdy "do ludności", "do żołnierzy"
Na alarm czarny druk uderzy
I byle drab, i byle szczeniak
W odwieczne kłamstwo ich uwierzy,
Że trzeba iść i z armat walić,
Mordować, grabić, truć i palić;
Gdy zaczną na tysięczną modłę
Ojczyznę szarpać deklinacją
I łudzić kolorowym godłem,
I judzić "historyczną racją",
O piędzi, chwale i rubieży,
O ojcach, dziadach i sztandarach,
O bohaterach i ofiarach;
Gdy wyjdzie biskup, pastor, rabin
Pobłogosławić twój karabin,
Bo mu sam Pan Bóg szepnął z nieba,
Że za ojczyznę - bić się trzeba;
Kiedy rozścierwi się, rozchami
Wrzask liter pierwszych stron dzienników,
A stado dzikich bab - kwiatami
Obrzucać zacznie "żołnierzyków". -
- O, przyjacielu nieuczony,
Mój bliźni z tej czy innej ziemi!
Wiedz, że na trwogę biją w dzwony
Króle z panami brzuchatemi;
Wiedz, że to bujda, granda zwykła,
Gdy ci wołają: "Broń na ramię!",
Że im gdzieś nafta z ziemi sikła
I obrodziła dolarami;
Że coś im w bankach nie sztymuje,
Że gdzieś zwęszyli kasy pełne
Lub upatrzyły tłuste szuje
Cło jakieś grubsze na bawełnę.
Rżnij karabinem w bruk ulicy!
Twoja jest krew, a ich jest nafta!
I od stolicy do stolicy
Zawołaj broniąc swej krwawicy:
"Bujać - to my, panowie szlachta!"

Almost interchangeably. Ethics is the branch of philosophy that deals with morality (the question of what is good and bad). It could also be called "The Network Theory of Morality: How Moral Values Emerge in Physical Systems".

The Network Theory of Ethics
Here is the thesis I’ve been working on for some time. It deserves a treatise, and I am currently working on one. Still, I am posting it here on NOSTR because I know many of you will challenge it. And that is exactly what I need.
I’ve dubbed it "The Network Theory of Ethics". It claims the following:
1. Morality can be derived from physics.
2. More specifically, it is an emergent property of the social network structures that exist within a reality governed by the laws of thermodynamics.
3. Moral values arise when individuals (nodes within a social network) create and maintain the social fabric in a reality in which energy dissipates and in which the expenditure of energy is required to temporarily reduce entropy within the network.
More to come.
Please share this with anyone you think may contribute to the discussion.

@nprofile…cnv5 LND Recovery from Backup (exact UI flow)
I’ve analysed the LND recovery process on Umbrel step by step, based on the Lightning seed + Static Channel Backup (SCB) recovery model used by Umbrel.
I’m attaching notes covering the two main scenarios:
1. recovery on an existing Umbrel install, and
2. recovery after a full reinstall or sudden, unplanned hardware retirement.
If your Umbrel decides to stop cooperating one day, this is exactly what will happen during recovery — including the intentionally force‑closed channels and the wait for funds to reappear on‑chain after timelocks.
Knowing this in advance should make it much easier to prepare properly and spare some unnecessary stress.

Hey Nostriches,
We’re almost there! 🔥 Our mission to fund 560 copies of The Bitcoin Standard—one for every Polish MP—is nearly complete. We’re just a couple hundred thousand sats away from the finish line.
# Why now?
Right now, Poland is in the middle of a heated debate about a new law on “cryptoassets.” Most of the political class is still clueless about Bitcoin. That’s where we step in—with education, not speculation.
# Here’s the plan:
✅ Books funded by the Bitcoin community via Geyser
✅ Purchased directly with bitcoin (no selling bitcoin to make the purchase)
✅ Each copy will include an open letter stressing the importance of understanding Bitcoin
✅ We’ll promote the project in Polish media to spark a public discussion about Bitcoin
📌 Project details:
https://geyser.fund/project/bitcoinparliamentpl
🫵 Ways to contribute:
➡️ Zap the project’s nostr profile:
@nprofile…ka5n
➡️ Send sats anonymously to LN address:
[email protected]
(Note: Geyser requires a minimum of 1,000 sats per contribution.)

Michael Saylor’s playbook directly attacks the financial system’s ability to co-opt and extract rent from base money. That’s why legacy banks began treating him as a mortal enemy.

Remarkably, the state itself has largely stood back — and now appears to be choosing sides. That choice will signal whether the transition is smooth or tumultuous.

My Fellow Nostriches,
🚀 Dwadzieścia Jeden - the Polish Bitcoin community - has just launched a #Geyser project to purchase 560 copies of “The Bitcoin Standard” by @nprofile…6g5h.
🎯 The mission is to gift one copy to every member of the Polish Parliament.
Why? Because we believe:
➡️ Education changes minds—some lawmakers may rethink their stance on Bitcoin.
➡️ Knowledge shapes policy—especially as Poland prepares new crypto asset regulations.
➡️ Visibility matters—this initiative could spark media coverage and boost Bitcoin awareness nationwide.
This is a global, Bitcoin-only campaign, and every satoshi counts. If you believe in Bitcoin’s future, help us plant seeds among policymakers.

Sure, the filters aren’t 100% effective. But can we agree that they might make it more difficult or costly to get that kind of content onto the blockchain? Plus, my own node isn’t relaying that content, so I’m not contributing to spreading it.
I’m not sure how the limited effectiveness of the filters supports the idea of removing them. It feels like a non-sequitur to me.

As I see it, no one in this discussion is actually for censorship. The debate is whether to keep or ditch the filters. Keeping the 40/80kb OP-RETURN filters as they are won’t lead to more censorship. Removing them will open the door to new risks. I just don’t see why we should take that risk.
I understand you believe the CP won’t come to the blockchain because (1) criminals have better tools and (2) Bitcoin isn’t great for hiding stuff. I’m not really convinced by those particular arguments. They don’t address the threat of deliberate state-level attack. Plus, I really wouldn’t want to relay or store CP with my node.

I get you and partly share your views. But could you explain why you think that CP-on-blockchain argument doesn’t hold water? Isn’t it a real threat and potentially an excuse for state-level attack?

We've been chained to reality and conditioned to fear it. But as chaotic, noisy, and fearful as reality may be, it is also constantly underpinned by silence. Meditation helps us find that silence and spend time in it. This dissolves the chains and uproots the fear, allowing us to be free and happy.

Everything we perceive is a hallucination rendered by our brains, pinging reality’s server for sensory data, letting us map and navigate the network of existence. Dreams are such hallucinations too, but the brain runs them offline, generating output without pinging reality’s server.

Pneuma is breath. In Stoicism, it is the spirit—the very seed of all life. 'Become pneuma' is perhaps the most powerful meditation instruction. Focus on breath to become breath.

'The Ethics of Liberty' by Rothbard is a great read, even if you don’t agree with everything he writes. Although I am personally closer to Mises, Rothbard’s talent for rigorous logical reasoning is truly impressive.

🧘🏻‍♂️ A few meditation instructions for those who practise daily 🧘🏻‍♂️
Disclaimer: I apologise if this sounds like gibberish. Language is a blunt tool.
What is happening now?
And now... And now... And now... Second by second. Meditation is about the relentless noticing that all contents populating consciousness (images, sounds, sensations, thoughts) remain in a state of continuous change, whether we want it to or not.
Where is the silence?
Even in times of unrest and chaos, stillness is present and permeates everything. Seek out this silence, find it, and try to spend time within it. Use the silent space as a vantage point for observing and noticing whatever is happening now. And now...
Where am I? What am I? Who am I?
In the silent space, you may notice that, among other things, the Self is also present. It’s that feeling (contraction?) that you are you. It’s the part of you that wants or doesn’t want things, that desires and protests. It’s the part that refuses to let go. Notice it and return to the silence. And again. And again.
Everyone’s inner space is different. Please share your tips on how to practise.
With metta.

I understand realpolitik and the transactional nature of international relations. Still, using an invasion and the threat of existential destruction to force a country to surrender half of its rare resources in exchange for protection is nothing but racketeering. It is morally reprehensible.

Soon, the Polish edition of the book "Broken Money" by the brilliant @nprofile…u7e3 will be published by Freedom Publishing. I had the great pleasure of working with the publisher as a consultant on the Polish version of the book.
The book doesn't need advertising here on nostr, but I am glad it will reach a wider audience of Polish readers. You can also become a patron of this edition today, which I warmly encourage. More information can be found on the publisher's website:

Hey @nprofile…sg0j ,
Thanks for the Alby Hub’s Friends & Family feature! I used it today to set up a sub-account for a family member, which I connected to Alby Go. It’s perhaps the easiest way to onboard close contacts without relying on third-party custodial services.
That said, I would appreciate the following additional capabilities:
— A separate balance for the sub-account in the main account’s UI (currently, payments to the sub-account are merged with those of the main account and are indistinguishable)
— For the main account owner to spend from the sub-account’s balance, it should require deleting the sub-account (in this case, the balances should merge)
— An LN address for the sub-account
Additionally, I have not found a way to reconnect an existing sub-account to a new Alby Go instance. Is it possible to display the secret code again when the sub-account is already set up and running?
Anyways, great stuff! All the best.
