It was more of a boiling pot effect over decades I think. And someone putting in the effort to make a high quality fake could have done post-processing in Photoshop to remove any artifacts, and tested it against a few of those AI or not tools. Eg. do inpainting on the area with the baby and then tweak it until it passed.

Okay the obvious spin on this story annoyed me so I looked up more info. I used the news footage to find the location on Google street view, and there clearly is no sidewalk. There is also a "Private Property: No Trespassing" sign. It's right across from the soccer complex and the dirt has clearly been chewed up by people driving there, probably due to vendors setting up stalls and people parking to buy stuff (it's a two lane road, no room to park). And the street view photos are from Jan 2023.
So my guess is that this guy got fed up after months or years of dealing with street vendors and finally snapped, tossing their shit off his property. Probably would have been smarter to just put up a fence though.

Reminds me of the boats in WoW. Same vibe, really annoying at the time but there were also some memorable interactions with other players just because we were all stuck in the same spot and bored.

Yeah, I largely agree with you, college is the easier path for most people. Maybe 10 years ago it was enough to build something cool and post it on Github, but then the H1Bs figured it out and ruined that hiring signal. Now you need to have a project with thousands of stars and tons of activity for it to matter.
Where can you pick up a BSCS in less than a year though? The fastest I've seen is 2-3 at some colleges that focus on online learning.

It depends, it feels like tech is moving more towards credentialism especially at medium-large companies. Just to get in the door you're fighting to get past the retarded HR resume filter, and the #1 thing they want is a college degree.
The other main hiring route for entry level is to get a summer internship (colleges help set those up) and then do a good job so they hire you after graduation. Again, that's a fair amount more difficult without college of some kind.
Tech is definitely still better than many other fields, but without a degree you really need to know your shit and be realistic about who is going to hire you. That or be a complete rockstar building some wildly successful open source project, or find a 0day in Chrome.

I didn't mind it, the games take a couple minutes tops. The only annoying part was tracking down the last couple players for the achievements.

Depends on how much Twitter actually makes in the EU. I could see Musk pulling out if they gave him a bad enough ultimatum. Eg. if they demand $250 million a year in funding for preventing hate speech and they are only pulling in $200 million, he might just say screw it.

Why even operate in the EU at this point? Move the handful of employees and servers to the US, and then laugh as they seethe and try to erect a great Euro firewall to block American free speech.
