I’m a science fiction writer, and this has started to be a thing some of us check on when doing panels at conventions. I personally try to avoid being part of a “manel”, especially if it’s all older white guys like myself. It’s something I talk to the programming team about once I see the pre-con roster. But not everyone does it.

I just e-mailed a professor saying that I am respectfully declining to participate in an assignment that requires the use of generative AI, because all the models use the stolen work of myself and every other professional writer I know.
It’s a tiny part of my grade in the class, so not like it’s a huge stand. But it’s a line I’m not willing to cross in this instance.

There are people losing their minds about Tim Walz playing video games with AOC - "He's so old!" People, I'm the same age as Tim Walz, and I spend an embarrassingly large amount of time playing video games. People who are 60, like us, grew up with video games.

I just cancelled my Washington Post subscription. It's annual so I'll still have access for the rest of the year. But no more of my money going their way.

I think there’s a good chance our species will survive; we’ve been through a lot over the millenia. What their society will look like, though… well, I’m planning out that book right now…

Well, never shopping there again, if this is real and not some rogue employee nonsense.

Good news on a Monday night: an author whose manuscript I critiqued for a charity auction just got an offer of rep for the revised version! #writing #WritingLife
