My elderly relative is upstairs right now watching the news as they do, periodically, all day, every day.
Somebody just shot up another school somewhere in the greater Atlanta area.
I honestly don't think that guns rights enthusiasts WANT to see anyone get hurt or killed by privately owned guns. I don't think anyone on the American right actually smiles inwardly to themselves when a bunch of people get killed, unless, maybe it's a bunch of partygoers at a gay nightclub or something, in which case, I think the people who cheer that sort of event are in a definite minority and are looked at as a bit toxic by their peers......
....but despite the deaths in the US from gun violence being sky high relative to the violence in just about any other country, the gun people staunchly defend the right to own firearms despite the deaths. Why? Because, apparently, societal level liberty is worth the death.
Okay. Fine. Whatever. All that death is worth it, it's the price of freedom or something like that.
How 'bout some freedom for incest people and zoos and other paras. What's the price of THAT freedom? Maybe once in a while, an inbred kid? Maybe once in a million years, somebody gets a truly exotic and embarrassing STD from a dog? Are these things, held in balance against lethal gun violence, somehow just too preciously expensive? is the price of liberty/freedom in these particular instances unacceptably high?
