Yes, yes I do. My Internet usage (and my biggest CO2 impact) primarily is emissions from computing resources set up to relay wildfire alerts, weather alerts, and more. I do not stream entertainment. I don't go on vacations. I only travel on airplane for funerals and graduations. I'd use less power for computing if it were not helpful to the climate crisis.

I was out in the Mojave in May on a (major, paved) road, took pictures for an hour and never saw another vehicle. You could have stripped naked and run around the road for awhile and no one would have seen you, LOL.

Accident started at 5:46am on Friday morning 7/26. People on the I-15 there were stuck until around 6:45am when they started to unravel the mess. The issue now is the only open route is the I-40 east, which has way too many people it has become a parking lot, and the gas stations in between have run out of gas. That said, officials know about what's going on and are working on remedying it... It's made it up to Transportation Sec. Buttigieg, so the issue is not unnoticed.

It's a common problem during disasters... all the time. If the main routes are shut, they shunt people off to small roads. If the small roads are shut, they shunt people off to gravel roads. In winter, people end up on forest service roads in mountains with no cell service and freeze to death.

There's some wonderful ones through Mojave National Preserve. 4wd only. I once had the entire desert to myself. I was worried getting stuck out there, though, better to bring a buddy. (There is repeater access through that entire area though, and CB-19 lots of truckers able to relay). My photo below.

Image alignment is an issue on Sentinel-3, big pixels. It's up against 32 for sure, the copters are hitting the heat out near Forest Ranch up against the road. The video I saw had it jumping but then the slop handled... I imagine that is all they are doing right now, keeping the line.

Yes, this is exclusively "work from home" and basically if you are available and can help, help... I can't help as much as others because of work, but we have a lot of people at home with just a computer and good ears (and even just good at finding official info, etc.).

Barstow currently 84F, high of 104F forecast, gusts as high as 30mph. That is not going to be fun for a Lithium battery fire in full turnouts and SCBA.

It appears it did trigger heat emergencies (as I suspected last night) and also looks like it disabled many vehicles (overheating?)
San Bernardino County Fire: "The San Bernardino County Fire Logistics Division has brought supplies to the Clyde V Kane Rest Stop off the northbound 15, south of Afton Canyon Road. Water has been provided at this location for motorists who are stuck without water and experiencing other issues due to heat and vehicle mechanical problems."

Latest update from the CHP log on the I-15 lithium battery fire incident. Something about waking up parked drivers and turning them around onto the I15 southbound around Field Road. From San Bernardino County Fire, they were supplying water to drivers who were stuck there yesterday (and must be still stuck) #I15 #batteryfire #Mojave #DesertDisaster

To top it off, someone's car got hit by a train on one of the alternate routes through the desert (at Goffs). Train is stopped, too. That's the main route for Amtrak, too... #train #accident #Mojave
