While travelling in Asia, I had a few hotels book me as "Mr MacBook". Apparently my name triggers the Autocorrect there 😅

Or you know, have some respect for your craft and take pride in doing the actual, boring, manual work. Create something of value for your users. Strive to make things better. Be human.

It will save them and millions of other people from the worst fucking idea anyone has ever had in software development.

Everytime I read a post like this (excellent) one by
@npub1cw7…0mkt, they come down to the same thing:
It pays off to bet on the web platform.
Want to make something that works without a major refactor every 3 years? Build "with the grain of the web". 💯

another thing is that this still used the old common js / lambda handler syntax. Netlify functions have switched to ES Modules recently, that could cause problems with import statements.
Function logs might contain clues there...

since it affects both prev/next and random functions, it could be a malformed entry in the members array? Hard to say

ah I see. Yeah I'm using a tiny render-blocking script in the head to set the theme on my site as well (from localstorage, but could just as well read from session). runs fast enough so there's no flash. [@chriskirknielsen](https://front-end.social/@chriskirknielsen ) has a similar approach: https://chriskirknielsen.com/blog/my-under-engineered-way-to-avoid-a-flash-of-inaccurate-color-theme/

otherwise, <link rel=preload as=style> could help avoid the flash

2024-10-07 17:35:07 GMT

you could do a reload of the page with the new theme applied and use a view transition to smooth it out maybe?

2024-09-27 20:33:39 GMT

got lucky, I caught it early so could avoid most of the damage, although it took working 48h straight. Many people in Austria were hit much harder.

Hope you can deal with it!

You can use the exact same APIs but use them to fuel a minimal static HTML/CSS site, and rebuild it every 10 minutes / when new data is published. Can even work offline-first with a Service Worker.

The state of Lower Austria offers a public dashboard with up-to-date flood data. That's great, but whyyy is it an Angular SPA? Lots of people have no electricity and/or very poor network conditions. They get a loading spinner instead.
👏 EMERGENCY WEBSITES SHOULD BE STATIC 👏

✏️ New post: Remember when the code in your editor was exactly the same code delivered to the browser? Now there's usually a build process in between, and that can get ... complicated.
Do we still need that? Can we do modern web development completely #buildless?
https://mxb.dev/blog/buildless/

2024-09-04 18:39:43 GMT

The more client work I do, the less time and energy I have to talk/write about it.
I suspect there's a giant group of people you never hear from in web dev discussions - because they're too busy doing it.

2024-09-03 07:02:08 GMT

Reminder that if you do the CSS centering joke in this year of our lord 2024, I'm gonna assume you stopped writing CSS around the time when people said "whassuuuuuuuup?" 😱
