It's not a "oh they don't have beef, I'll take chicken" casual kind of choice!
And even if statistically people who have strong feelings against AI are a minority - it is a minority vocal and stern in their decisions like never seen before!

2026-08-20 12:32:07 GMT

What people defending AI don't understand, is how much people who dislike AI, dislike AI.
It's not just a casual "uhh I am not a fan of this" stance. It is a full rejection paired with mentally stigmatizing, probably forever, the AI product & the company behind it.
People on the internet have long memory. We all know who did NFTs in the past & we know who is doing AI right now.
Are you really ready to brand yourself & your livelihood with this?

@nprofile…5y0h Both! But also I'll answer your question with my question:
Do you want your game to be seen by many people or not?

2026-04-07 13:42:20 GMT

Why telling an indie dev to "make a different/better game" as a business advice meets with such strong resistance, sometimes even animosity?
Do y'all really just want to make ONE SPECIFIC GAME and nothing else?
I understand that it might be disrespectful of someone's effort when put in the way I did it in the first sentence...
But this is by far the BEST way for us indie devs to get visibility (and sales). Some games just look more interesting and shareworthy than others.

Fun story time!
Back when I worked at GOG (over 8 years ago) as their Linux gaming expert the company hired a highly qualified Linux engineer for the GOG Galaxy team. As far as I know the poor fellow never got to do anything Linux-related in his job. Still, he was a fun friend to talk Linux with.
There were a couple of us Linux gamers back then at GOG. Unfortunately not among the decision makers 🙂.

What I do is all kinds of #indiegame marketing and promotion for small/medium #indiedev studios or publishers. 🕹️
My hobbies and special interests include #Linuxgaming and cats! 🐱
In fact it was #Linux gaming expertise that landed me my first gaming industry job at GOG. com back in 2014. 🐧

@nprofile…f4xf This is actually a very interesting topic because it shows for how long system designers thought computer systems will be used as terminals to a singular machine serving multiple users and not standalone entities serving one user on one machine. Windows did the same as well!

Since I am a die-hard Debian user and Debian is not exactly considered very user friendly what do I recommend friends that want to try out Linux?
What Debian derivative, I mean. Because that way I can give them best tech support when needed. 🍥
I keep hearing that Ubuntu and Mint are rather unpolished these days and things often break there and end up too difficult to explain (to a Linux baby).
Don't say Arch. Don't say Fedora.

I don't want to be a dick but isn't Deliver At All Costs in clear breach of Steam Distribution Agreement?
The game is available for 100% off (effectively free) on Epic Games Store while being available at full price on Steam Store.
The rules clearly say that the games published on Steam are not allowed to be offered at a lower price point on other stores.

Hey professional #gamedev people, can anyone explain to me in layman terms why gaming companies went in the kernel-level anticheat direction?
I realize that seeing what other processes do in the device's memory is a powerful tool.
My understanding is this solution is invasive, can create BSOD, and alienates Linux gamers.
Is it too difficult or too problematic to sync everything server-side instead?

I think the issue with decentralization is low level computer literacy but not in a way you think it is.
We should have been taught from the very beginning about the dangers of commercializing the online services (particularly communication) and vendor lock-in.
We were not.
Now people are happily jumping one proprietary ship... Only to fall into the traps of another one.
