Our issues are mild wet winters/summers both of which are getting wetter far faster than we can keep up with. Germination mats are ok but I haven’t ever used lights - which may have to change. A lot of the well-meaning messages on carbon trading create a false equation: we can’t fix it with trees = tree planting itself is useless. As well as huge #CO2Reduction We need a #CarbonTax & we need to use a it to plant trees. 79% of the USA’s electricity comes from direct burning of fossil fuel- transport still relies heavily on direct burning of fossil fuel. A tool I use a lot is the Husquvarner brushcutter - it makes organic field management possible (and yes, before you ask we have a scythe & use it regularly but the brush cutter does thistles/path-clearing much more efficiently than the scythe). Today’s problem is that the little plastic connector that catches the pull-back on the starter cable has broken. Can’t find one online anywhere😡. The Blaeberry as a wild plant is a native to Scotland’s moors. Just be aware of potential final tree size. Our old apple trees are enormous and picking is a challenge. If we just use price rises to push people then that’s unlikely to reduce CO2 emissions very much just stress people’s pockets. What about price incentives for low CO2 emission holidays? Lower prices for hotels with a vegetarian menu or no pool? Maybe cheap holiday express buses and trains? Everything from coal burned to make the Chinese steel in the hotel construction to the swimming pool maintenance to food waste in hotel kitchens to the CO2 emitted in the food production - it is all unsustainable. We need to stop and think before we rebuild the places that have burned. We can’t have our target getting 1000s of tourists back on a plane to the Greek Islands next year. Our target needs to be reducing CO2 drastically now and *never* getting back on a plane or next year more will burn. I am trying at the moment to improve my diet, not for weight loss nor for a wedding or a holiday but because I want to eat more healthily for my whole life. This is really hard & I need to work at it! I love my bad food choices. The whole planet 🌎 needs to go on a low CO2 diet, not for a year but forever.
