I think I know where I got my obsession with reading all my emails came from.
Many, MANY years ago there was a web game known as Travian. Really simple browser town management game set in the classical era. It had a simple messaging system between guild members. There were two sides to the notifications button, one that would light up green for general messages I didn't give a shit about, but the other one would turn yellow if someone directly messaged you.
I was a pretty involved player. I acted like a resource bank for others and would keep a ledger of what was owed. I'd wake up and always check my messages right before school (to the worry of my Mom that I'd miss the bus), but man, when that thing lit up yellow it was gonna be a good day. It felt good to be important enough that someone would reach out. I guess that just ingrained an association of message = good.

it will always be more important to nurture your ability to learn than actually learn things themselves, because the latter really only requires some basic guidance if the foundations are there. knowing *how* to learn is a difficult skill and absolutely critical to your versatility in dealing with situations.

there is absolutely a strange bug in pleroma (or my instance of it) that causes all new email events to fire multiple times rapidly in succession, with repeat speed slowing down via a fibonacci like burn down. it's insane.
For ONE specific event email it came in at 3:09, 3:10, 3:11, 3:13, 3:16, 3:20, and i predict another one in a few minutes.

one thing that weirds me out is that am participating in discussions and ideologies where i have no skin in the game. i am an incredibly boring cis white male who doesn't smoke, rarely drinks, has no tattoos and drops acid maybe once a year. you'd think i fell out of california and the most radical thing i'd ever done was attend burning man.
the people who have skin in the game at risk of being hate crimed have provenance via their lived experience and some days i just feel like a tourist or god forbid a chaser for injecting myself into these activities. is it really surprising though that most of my technical and moral ability is on the fringes of the internet, and that fostering my altruism just happens to land on those who are marginalized in those fringes? idk.
i'm also a complete asshole and filter people who i find distasteful or annoying out for the greater good of my sanity so maybe my high horse sucks

@nprofile…083c evaporative cooling. if it works for AI it'll work for you too. fan pointed at a bowl of water. barely any power use. evaporation makes things colder, condensing hotter, that's why fridges work.

Interesting security flaw in Pfsense. When a NAT rule pinned to an interface loses the underlying interface, the default is to revert that rule back to WAN instead of disabling it or keeping the orphaned rule pinned to the interface.
This was a set of rules tied to OPT1, 2, 3, and 4. I now only have OPT1 and 2 after removing OPT3 and 4. OPT3 and 4 reverted to WAN, which is unintended behavior. On a different network architecture where Pfsense is the externally facing firewall, this can lead to a severe exposure of internal services.
Anyone else seen this before? Think it is worth reporting to Netgate? Maybe they fixed it already?
