We enjoyed some great lunchtime conversations in the shade of the poplars ranging from how to tell a native black poplar from a hybrid to what an entomologist might feel about Pharoah Ants and cockroaches in council tower blocks and bedbugs on London buses and the Underground, with so many Latin names sprinkled liberally in between. And with much chat about invasive water plants from as far afield as Brazil, bream spawning and the pollution in the Old River Lee aka Lea.

Announcing our new regular volunteer days, starting on June 28th on #HackneyMarshes
Tasks will vary throughout the year and may include meadow management, constructing loggeries, creating rubble gardens, and other habitat improvement work.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience. We hope this will be an enjoyable opportunity for people to contribute to the care of the marshes while meeting others with an interest in local wildlife and conservation.

Progress on the Butterfield Green green classroom area after today's volunteer session. In addition to the planting together with the park user group to increase biodiversity of flora in the understorey we created a dead hedge alongside the path.

Giant standing log pile with kestrel nest box above installed in the new #NorthMarshCopse.
3m loggery mimics some of the micro habitats of a large decaying tree.
Nest box from parts of reused garden shed for kestrels that have recently returned to #HackneyMarshes.

The next stage in #ReNaturing #HackneyMarshes. Building mega log piles for small mammals, invertebrates, fungi, etc in a new ride cut through #WickWoodland. More light, more decaying wood, more life.

#Introduction
We are a new collective of practical ecologists and arboriculturalists from North/East London bringing nature recovery to urban London.
We specialise in building sustainable, long term habitat restoration from the bottom up to enhance local wildlife. Based on local knowledge of an area we create and manage woodlands, waterways and grasslands to boost existing populations and create space for other species to return.…
