i didn't know muting was possible on nostr, and i was happy about that. i used to mute on twitter and mastodon, but never felt good about it. always felt fake in a way. why not just unfollow the account?
i know why. you unfollow the account, they unfollow you, your follower count goes down. so it's all about maintaining a high follower count. fake followers.

wishing to remain anonymous or pseudonymous on nostr hugely limits one's options for what one can post without revealing identity or location. is this necessary, or even possible? or is all that cloak-and-dagger for naught?

I had an interesting, learning, and overall great educational experience with @nprofile…5qez . I had to restore my wallet on a different device. Restore was successful, process went smoothly, and I learned a lot during the process, including that my ISP blocks neutrino traffic, but using a VPN fixes that.
Outstanding support from the man himself @nprofile…a4r4 . Thank you!

Reminds me of early Flickr and early Twitter. Flickr used to go down around 5 pm Pacific every day. Remember the Twitter fail whale? This is what made them interesting for a certain type of user. Then Flickr sold to Yahoo!, Twitter got VC. Both became slick and polished, which attracted the normies and marketers and politicians. Which ruined them.
You wish the same for nostr? I don't.

I agree about the open source UI, to an extent. However, there are some open source projects (I won't name them), which, in an effort to counter the UI deficiency phenomenon, swing too far the other way and slap a stunning over-engineered, "beautiful" UI on a product that is half baked. This is much worse, IMHO
