19y ago today I joined Twitter and spent months fascinated by how the feed went by faster than you could keep up, so unlike forums, blogs, LJ etc. For years it was great, weird, informative, newsy, though horrible at times…
Over time “actually” culture became gotcha culture. Trolling fed by bots grew dominant. I blocked & blocked (eventually >100k accounts). Not fun. I posted less, then stopped, then disabled my account, then just deleted it in disgust
But those early years bring fond memories

This is about a woman space Marine toughing out subsistence survival on a station filled w war refugees. Gritty, dark w sexual & physical abuse, not for everyone. Cherryh’s vivid, kinetic prose focuses on Bet’s journey (and less on the big picture scope of Downbelow Station and Cyteen).

Question for authors and editors who’ve moved off Word: What have you moved to?
I need a Word replacement for editing/exchanging mss w others that at minimum retains styles, can track changes on long (novel-length) docs without slowing to a crawl, and can output a clean .doc to send/use elsewhere.
This is an annoying undertaking but necessary bc reasons. Please share any suggestions and/or experiences that might be helpful. Thx!

No, because “AI” is merely a pattern matching gizmo. It doesn’t actually understand anything. It’s not deciding to use any particular punctuation or syntax. It’s just extruding patterns based on existing patterns in its training data.
OTOH avoiding clichés is a good thing anyway.
