It frustrates me a little to see churches sponsoring LGBT+ and pride events. Like, I am glad that god changed his mind on the whole homosexuality being a sin thing right around the time that it stopped being broadly socially acceptable to be openly homophobic in some countries and increased secularization has meant that they can no longer be choosy about who they accept into the flock, but it feels a smidge opportunistic.
It annoys me a whole lot to see alcohol companies sponsoring LGBT+ and pride events, as if they aren't deliberately targeting a demographic with staggering rates of alcohol abuse.
It really drives me up the wall to see Gilead Sciences, AKA the reason HIV medication is unaffordable sponsor LGBT+ and pride events, they are price-gouging vampires.
It absolutely unfuriates me to see soldiers and cops at pride events, I don't feel like I have explain that one, get them out of here.
And it really drives me nuts seeing people accept all of the above and then argue about whether kink should be welcome under the LGBT+/queer umbrella. it definitely makes me feel like we've lost the plot somewhere.

The funniest part of the Pink fight is how much it singlehandidly changed Deltarune fan discourse. Like, a lot of people who didn't outright deny a trans and plural reading of the game but didn't think Toby would ever explicitly go there changed their minds really quickly when the trans plural catgirl started throwing bombs at them.

One of those random things I'd like to see a study on is how shoji are depicted in western media compared to japanese media. Cus like, from what I've seen, western stories set in japan seem kind of fixated on the supposed flimsiness of paper screen doors as room dividers, but of course japanese media is no stranger to making a recurring gag out of people repeatedly crashing through the shoji and it constantly needing to be repaired.
So, what I'd like to know is, is there a difference in how this gag is used in western media vs in japanese media? If it's not the absence or presence of the gag, is there maybe a difference in how often it comes up or how it's portrayed?

I have a question for someone who's more well-versed in japanese pop culture than me, one of those always wanted to know but where afraid to ask type deals.
In japan, is lolicon as a trope considered something of a western import? Like, between the name referencing a Nabokov novel and gothic lolita (which is playing with similar themes even though it's very much NOT to be confused with the tropes I'm talking about) being based around victorian fashion, I get the sense that it's thought of as an idea that came from the west via books like Lolita, and was codified in Japan into a phenomenon that most people have incredibly mixed feelings about.
It wouldn't be the first time a concept started in the west, got brought over to Japan where it turned into a different things, then exported back to the west where it's recieved as a 'wacky japanese thing' even though it's literally just something we are responsible for, just twisted about ten degrees.
It wouldn't even be the first time something moe-related had gone through this process, the whole "girl with a big mallet" thing is just loony tunes mallet gags fused with 'sex offender gets violently punished'-style sex comedy.

All anti-kink sentiments are ridiculous, but the backlash against kink fashion has gotta be the most ridiculous. It's just clothes and acessories, and not even particularly revealing clothing half the time (leave it to kinksters to find ways to wear a fully enclosed bodysuit that's hornier than most bikinis)
A lot of it seems to come down to the idea of kink as a sort of secret sex, like if someone wears a collar for kinky reasons and you see it, they've fucked you somehow, and that's just not how it works.
Kink fashion is fundamentally fashion, just informed by a kinky notion of what's attractive rather than a vanilla one. Also, it's not like there's a line between kink fashion and 'vanilla' fashion, fashion houses take inspiration from kink all the time when they wanna be edgy and a large chunk of kink fashion is just repurposed PPE, millitary surplus or workwear.
It's really more about the assumptions people make about whoever is wearing it and pretty much 100% of the time it translates to marginalizing people who are visibly queer.

one thing that gets me about how a lot of places approach kink is your're not allowed to have an actually informed take, but you are allowed to just sort of say whatever if it comes from an outsider perspective, the end result being that a whole bunch of people are just sort of sitting around speculating what those people over there are like, while a sniper is positioned on the roof in case anyone actually try to come in with a perspective based on experience.

I'm not the only one who have said this, but the thing about eclipses is like... imagine a stereotypical space alien who roadtrips planets the way you might roadtrip to nearby cities and who's seen the wonders of space first-hand... they would STILL probably be absolutely mesmerized by a total solar eclipse cus the conditions necessary to pull it off are so precise, most planets will straight-up not have one. It really is a wonder on a galactic scale.

Correct me if im wrong, but most of what you could do in Flash, you can do in html 5, right? Like, the reason they don't make websites that look good anymore isn't because we can't, the drive just isn't there.
There is an argument that phones is what killed it, but I don't really buy that either. If there was still a willingness to play with the internet as a proper cyberspace, people would probably make some really weird and interesting things with responsive web design.
Like, anything from a whole different website design on smaller viewports (like for example making the mobile site look like a fantasy handheld device while the main site looks more like a fantasy desktop) to simply displaying the Dilbert comic that's like "here's a nickel kid, buy a real computer" if you try to open it on mobile (I'm not *endorsing* this option, mind, but if we wanna capture the spirit of mid-00s era web design, it's gonna become obvious really fast that some people still have mid-00s era attitudes)

In retrospect I might have been kinda modest about my ability to code. It's true that I only ever learned just enough javascript to be able to noodle around with zonelets and Twine, but the way things are going I might actually be a better programmer than a decent chunk of the tech industry simply cus I do actually type things in and try to understand how they work.

I've heard adherents of each theory argue with each other and I notice that they more or less both agree on what the relevant evidence is, the point of disagreement is largely how complicated they believe the mystery is gonna be.
Like, Carol truthers generally seem to expect the mystery is gonna be fairly straightforwards cus the game needs to make room for a giant Gaster boss fight or something (there's not gonna be a giant Gaster boss fight, but the idea of "the mystery isn't actually hard to solve because the actual plot and gameplay is gonna take up the bulk of the playtime" definitely holds water.)
Meanwhile, Dess truthers expects Dess to become a central character at some point and thus the mystery can afford to be more complicated and allow for intentional misdirection.
I'm not actually that invested in figuring out this question ahead of time (all relevant answers will come in due time), but I am fascinated by this contrast between theories cus when people theorize, it's typically from the standpoint of what evidence, however flimsy, you can dig up. But here the question is more "what type of story are we playing?"
People do attempt to find smoking guns that shoot down the others theory but they are things like "how did a character get from point A to point B that fast?" (this is fiction, where people routinely make hour-long drives in ten minutes. It might damage your suspension of disbelief but the truth is most authors never really pay attention to making the distances realistic, especially not in an RPG where the size of everything is fudged.)
Tbh, arguments from paying really close attention to how the characters move through a scene is so funny cus half the time it's people bringing out a road map, a distance calculator and a weather app to find out the road conditions on that exact day and how fast they could've reasonably gone without breaking the speed limit and the other half of the time the answer to "how could the character have gotten from point A to point B?" is "they walked there, probably, maybe ran if the timing is tight" cus in their excitement they literally forgot the character in question has legs.

I need to stop using tumblr cus I always get jumpscared by someone defending AI and it pisses me off for the rest of the day.
I don't know why this is so common on tumblr especially, maybe it's just that you're statistically less likely to encounter people who are trying to self-host their own things and have seen first-hand how much AI companies have turned the internet into a wasteland and more likely to encounter people who have strong, uninformed opinions about art.
So, it's a lot easier in that environment to get the impression that the objection to AI is entirely rooted in either aesthetics or copyright when that really isn't the case.
It reminds me a bit of the tech-literary horseshoe theorem where people who know very little about tech and are paranoid about it as a result will sound superficially similar to people who knows a lot about tech (and are paranoid about it as a result).

A weirdly specific trope I've found myself really charmed by is videos of a music set of some kind (full album stream, DJ set etc) timed in such a way that during the course ~1 hour, the sun is gradually setting until you get a cool sunset somewhere in the middle and dusk towards the end of the set, powerful stuff.

The funniest example of this phenomenon where fans will take any information said out loud by a character as gospel even though there's no indication whatsoever they are honest or know what they are talking about is the way people have devised explanations for for how Han Solos claim that his ship "made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs" could be technically accurate when not only is it likely that Han is full of shit judging by Obi-wans reaction, the script outright says so.

What gets me about Swedish stereotypes is how we're apparently seen as pretty alien, to the point where there's an actual recognized type of alien in UFOlogy that's just "looks vaguely nordic".
The stereotypes applied to us aren't particularly negative in the grand scheme of things (if anything we have a reputation of being cozy and progressive that's entirely unearned) and they aren't particularly inaccurate in the grand scheme of things either (sure, I had a US friend who was under the impression that Amsterdam is a Swedish city, but at least he got the continent right, which is more than some countries get), but at least in my limited experience, Swedish stereotypes in particular seem especially surreal.
Sometimes it feels like foreigners don't quite know what to make of Sweden and they are willing to believe just about anything could go down here.

Watching cartoons as an adult is fun cus when you know all the big words the characters are throwing around, the impression becomes less "wow,this character is really smart" and more "wow, this character was absolutely trying to fast-talk their way out of that situation".
I was rewatching Equestria Girls: Friendship Games and there's a scene where high school AU Twilight Sparkle gets caught with his pet dog at school and she explains she's simply "doing a study on human-canine cohabitation", and the teacher let her keep the dog.
She basically just said "me having a dog at school is okay because I'm trying to see if I can get away with having a dog at the school."

The way I'd hire writers for a TV show is to give them one question:
Scenario: You are building up to an exciting finale but haven't locked in the ending yet, you go on social media and see a bunch of people correctly guessing the ending you had in mind. Do you
a) completely rewrite the ending to something no one has guessed in order to keep the ending surprising or
b) stay the course, maybe incorporate some of the best ideas from peoples speculations if you're feeling cheeky
And if they pick a) I put their CV through a paper shredder.

Disco Elysium is part of a subgenre of detective stories that I dont think has been fully codified despite there being a number of examples, but if I had to give it a name I'd call it holistic detective stories as the ur-example is Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams. Other examples are Alan Moore's From Hell and Twin Peaks.
The central premise of stories in this genre is typically that the case being investigated is merely the symptom of a larger existential illness and in order to solve the case, the detective must also unravel the society around the case and even reality itself.
Consequently, the detectives of these kinds of stories tend to be VERY eccentric, even by the standards of detective stories, as they need to be in tune with things like synchronicity and outright dream logic to make headway.
The best litmus test for if you are in a holostic detective story is if "do drugs about it" ever seems like a reasonable method of getting a lead for an ostensibly professional detective.

The version of this I'd like to see is a slice of life manga where basically every chapter is just arriving at some quaint small town and the people the protagonist bumps into along the way (and maybe an overarching plot point like the only available volume #1 is with this cute girl and childhood friend who refuses to lend it to the heroine because of some bad experience in the past where she lent her a book and it got destroyed, and there's this complex evolving relationship between the two as the childhood friend sees the heroine lovingly build up this collection of books and start warming up to her until eventually in the final chapters she agrees to let her borrow the first volume. By that point, she's already just found another copy of volume 1 elsewhere, so the issue is kind of moot, but the gesture is appreciated anyway and that ends up being what tips their friendship over to romance).
What I think would actually be made is a ludicrously over the top fighting manga where it turns out there's a small group of martial artists after the same volumes and in order to find them all the hero must master every fighting technique and probably there's an evil book collector out there that is somehow going to use an obscure 80s yuri manga to open up a portal to the shadow dimension and destroy the world. I know there is something like that out there already, but about people fighting over half-priced nearly expired food (I don't remember exactly when this manga was made, but you can pretty much tell by the premise it would've been somewhere in the Lost Decades era when the japanese economy was doing just fine with no major issues whatsoever 😅 )

I was at IKEA today and they had multiple snowy owl plushies with Hogwarts acceptance letters up as decoration. Y'know, in case you where afraid that the company owning the rights to trans girls favorite plush meant they wheren't basically condoning transphobia.
This isn't neceserily on the level of "you need to boycott ikea", for all I know it's just this one store, but it is enough to illustrate that corporations are not your friends. They'll hang a trans flag in the show room one day and have a Harry Potter display the next. Your life is literally worthless to them, as long as you give them some of your hard-earned money before you kick the big one.

It's a remarkably consistent thing that people will describe their ideal social media and they will basically be describing Mastodon, but they'll react with hostility if you as much as mention mastodon (or, more likely, they'll pre-emptively discount Mastodon before it's even entered the conversation... oh and you could try suggesting other fedi software but chances are they'll stare at you blankly or simply consider it more Mastodon.)
I literally saw someone be like "can we make our own non-mastodon bluesky server with blackjack and hookers?" and like that's mastodon, they are describing mastodon. If you want something that fits the basic description of Mastodon but isn't called Mastodon, I have great news about the fediverse.

Because I was myself mystified by the genre and found it a bit hard to get a straight answer: "digital fusion" is a genre of music that's inspired by the sound of chiptune, midi and early computer music, but isn't really beholden to any particular eras hardware limitation. From what I've heard, it usually has a pretty strong melodic element and often sound like video game music from some sort of alien console.

When it comes to politics, one of the more frustrating things to navigate is "okay, when you say antisemitism, do you mean antisemitism or do you mean 'not supporting Israel in its genocide of Palestinians?"
Cus it's not like the nazis have gone anywhere, but there are so many politicians, including word leaders who wilfully conflates "antisemitism" with "not supporting Israel" even though some of the biggest critics of Israel are holocaust survivors and children of holocaust survivors who have seen genocide by an attempted ethnostate play out once before and they wont accept it just because different people are waving different flags this time.
And the thing is, it's not actually hard to navigate, you can tell right at a glance if someones opposition to zionism comes from a principled opposition to genocide in all forms or from the laughably incorrect belief that "zionism" means some sort of world domination scheme.
But it is frustrating because of how relentless it is, how you're constantly being forced to prove you don't hate jewish people even as you're dealing with an institution that absolutely despises jewish people who don't share their nationalistic and genocidal political goals.
Nothing that Israel has been doing to Palestinians have been acceptable, it's hard to properly convey the scale of the atrocities. However bad you think it is, the reality is worse.
And yeah it is very easy to hate people who are willing and capable of doing this to fellow human beings, which is where the antisemitism accusations come from in the first place but the category of "willing and capable of committing genocide" does not contain all jews. It does not contain most jews, on average they are probably less likely to think genocide is a good idea for obvious historical reasons.
And there are plenty of non-jewish people supporting Israel, either for their own religious reasons or just cus they are in the murder business and is on the side of whomever is currently murdering more people.
The moral stance on this issue is crystal clear, don't support genocide no matter who's doing it. Don't let anyone try and muddy the waters.
