couldn't agree more.
tho there's also obviously the issue of extremely rich people flooding the zone with propaganda messaging to that effect ("frivolous lawsuits") anytime they happen to get sued for grotesque negligence / abuses.
this cop shit is obviously in a somewhat different category, but the overall critique is definitely accurate.

> Newspapers played a sensationalizing role throughout the first wave of the Klan, as historian Elaine Frantz Parsons argues in her 2015 book Ku-Klux: The Birth of the Klan During Reconstruction—the first comprehensive examination of the Reconstruction Klan since the 1970s. Using newspaper archives, Parsons illustrates that the first wave of the Klan was very much a hodgepodge movement deft at wielding media attention.

> The fiddle players were college-educated ex-Confederates who knew Greek and understood the mystifying powers of a fraternal club. Secret men’s fraternities like Kuklos Adelphon, founded at the University of North Carolina in 1812, had proliferated in the antebellum period. After spitballing, the fiddlers settled on a club name with gibberish origins—the Greek word kuklos means a band or circle, which morphed into kukloi before someone yelled out “Ku-Klux.” Klan completed the alliteration. (Changing c’s to k’s was a linguistic fad of the mid-nineteenth century.)

> Many big investment firms have developed automated systems to monitor Truth Social, detect important keywords and take action—often within a fraction of a second—such as initiating or canceling positions, traders said.

In the minute following two of Trump’s posts about > [> Iran](https://www.wsj.com/topics/place/iran )> last month, investors traded more than 2 million shares, according to data from DTN. These trades caused swings of more than 2% in almost two dozen energy and industrial stocks.

The company plans to charge $100,000 a month, or $60,000 a month if traders commit for years, according to people familiar with the matter. Those figures are out of reach for many everyday traders who follow the president’s social posts closely.

Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti
> “We are heartbroken but also very angry.
> Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. >Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact.
> I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed.
> Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

ICE investigates after Colorado group says agents left ‘death cards’ in arrested immigrants’ abandoned cars

> “It is a racist symbol, and it’s just disgusting to see the actions of ICE in our community,” Sánchez said. “Leaving a racist death card behind for families to find is just sickening.”

He has made provocative statements — including calling the Covid vaccine the “deadliest” ever made — that directly contradict evidence that has shown the shot to be overwhelmingly effective.
> Critics of Mr. Kennedy argued that he also helped fuel the animosity directed at the C.D.C. Federal officials have blamed the agency for botching the country’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. Kennedy has previously called the C.D.C. a “cesspool of corruption,” and a fascist enterprise. He accused C.D.C. employees of covering up vaccine harms to children, comparing it to the Catholic Church’s coverup of child sex abuse.

> The apocalyptic sense of dread has only been heightened by reports of hydrants running dry and a critical shortage of firefighters, blamed by some on a $17 million budget cut for the Los Angeles Fire Department (the city meanwhile committed to $1 billion in raises and bonuses for the police department over four years). California prisoners continue to do dangerous work on fire crews for extremely low pay. Climate science deniers up to and including President-elect Donald Trump — who keeps vowing to withhold federal aid from the state during wildfires once he’s back in the White House — have baselessly claimed that the devastation is due to environmental safeguards. Equally infuriating: Alex Jones and Elon Musk pushing conspiracist gibberish on X, formerly Twitter, that chalks the fires up to a “Globalist Plot To Wage Economic Warfare.”
