I kinda already do in the form of a 24/7/365 radicle seed https://repoducible.org which contributes in its small way to a distributed git repo system that is not open to censorship. However I vet the contents of every repo I seed to make sure it has nothing illegal because the repo is stored on my machine and as I see it I would be in trouble hosting bad things (as in really illegal stuff, not code).

How did #Codeberg manage to make a boring infrastructure #FOSS git database into a holier than though policy fight? I would have preferred they circle their waggons with a high ethics club / church one has to be vetted to join for free, but provide a paid tier for use of the database by anyone else just seeking non-github services & committed to FOSS, sharing even their alleged "slop" which is better than not sharing for inspection and vetting. Anything that puts people off FOSS is bad.

#Codeberg algorithm: If you type the same comment into the #pullrequest #PR descriptor field a few times you get rate limited: cannot do the PR. This was for to preventing bot use. But I was using the same PR comment *manually* for identical operations. I didn't know this rule & was hampered til they told me. #Codeberg has no ability to nor interest in hosting "as much code as possible", and no-one can force them to. Ok. They also have no interest in keeping users who know their code is a good fit to their principles, but who have to leave because they cannot make codeberg part of their infrastructure if they fear a codeberger moderator or bit "does not like the amount code the repo self-labels as e.g. claude code assisted" and deletes it as threatened.

If repo closing by #codeberg by force happened, it would be a major practical disaster. The uncertainty alone is damaging: users should not have to worry that a subjective “purist” judgment or an unreliable automated tool might destroy their workflow. Codeberg needs to manage this risk with exceptional clarity, due process, warnings, appeals, and safeguards against irreversible deletion. I would hope a freeze phase would be first then dialogue. BTW would gladly pay to be left alone. 2/2

I agree. Thanks for speaking up. There is much positive feedback about the move to bad LLM code on #codeberg. It risks strengthening liberal big tech by leaving it dominant. I use LLMs to help build tested #nixos #flakes that run my machines, yet I now worry my fleet setup processes using codeberg could be ruined by other's decisions. That is why dependence on large platforms is risky & this move has proven this. I use #radicle & #reticulum #rngit as a backup for Codeberg as it is flaky.

#codeberg no longer works for me. After two pull requests on their website I get
Network error SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected non-whitespace character after JSON data at line 3 column 1 of the JSON data
and then only after waiting e.g. overnight can I no more PRs .
I use codeberg in preference to gitgub on principle, but now I cannot use codeberg effectively any more.
Anyone know what this problem is?

I have learnt just now, as the manual says, reticulum over IP loses its privacy. It must use ip2. That has finally cleared up my last "why use reticulum default interface or IP transport nodes / backbones" is that breaks the un-traceable aspect.

Footnote to above post: The provision of a special forwarding node address as in 6. is only mentioned here because the post wanted to highlight what is needed if immediate guaranteed access is wanted akin to what happens on the normal internet. The provided forwarding node is specially provisioned 24/7 & set up 1 hop away from the repo hosting machine by the repo owner. It acts as its "reticulum ipv4 web access point". In practice the default interface should work eventually but might take time.

Thanks. Yes, it should ALL be upstream derivations but the hate campaign against AI generated PRs is so bad I do not do it & make it all local. The flake uses 'parts' so you can pull in just the part/s you want: very handy so you do not need the whole flake & can test before maybe importing/harvesting the nix code The readme is not up to date, sorry. As you can see from the number of commits, even with Claude Code doing the heavy lifting, it is a very long term project to make my #flake.

Train in DE again 110 km for 3 people #Bayernticket works out at 74 euros *(3/5) = 44.50 € . My car incl all costs fuel etc. costs 0.40 € per km = 44 € . Again. I am trying to get out of #Signal customer support an answer as to why one of my linux desktop apps on one machine does not synchronise when the others do and the machines all use precisely identical setups via a nixos flake. All I get is automatic answers which miss the point. The joke is I voluntarily pay monthly & have done for years & somehow it is gutting to just not get anything back remotely resembling assistance. I also have experienced, even on TCP backbone set as gateway, the failure of replies to my messages to get through. Not sure if this is the problem you are referring to. So I message someone using my backbone gateway and they reply but it does not get delivered to me. (I have set up reticulum.me and reticulorum.net as backbone gateways BTW)

Using a repo like codeberg and #git for managing a #flake for #nixos that applies for all multiple machines of a fleet each, having their own git branch, using the .#<machine_of_fleet> is really hard. Does anyone do this too? Why is it so hard? For example I have not stopped using #checkout as a command because it makes no sense to me and leads to confusion, and use switch and restore. Also I have made a mental note not to refer to "main" in any operation other than the one master machine. Tips?

Is there an idiot's guide to using radicle as a web front end to inspect PR and perform merges on the web front end? Or is this not possible? I am happily using codeberg to manage my PR (inspect diffs) and merge branches into main etc. but do not see anything in my radicle toolbox that behaves as such a tool, so I mirror to radicle from codeberg until I can perform the operations I need it for natively in radicle. I know this means I am clueless but am trying hard to understand.

I just wanted to say that github is the reference location for code (which is a shame but still fact), and that I am using #radicle as a robust meshed git repo system & #codeberg so no sheep. As mirror repo codeberg/github are ok locations just to get it out & get bootstrapped. To only get the #RNS code over #rngit reticulum itself seem not beginner-friendly.

Yes. I am in a permanent flap about the single source of truth & distributed repos thing. I think there needs to be an independent channel of communication about the git status of any code obtained from any repo at all to notify if the repo you are seeing is behind the SSOT. I mean a separate infrastructure that is not down just because the access to the SSOT repo is down. Redundant git status channels are needed in my view, including all known peer to peer TCP alternatives. Just ideas.

With the prolonged attack on #Canonical servers still affecting updates, I’ve been wondering whether a system like #radicle could maybe help as a secondary mirror and reduce the impact of outages or attacks. I mirror my Codeberg repo to a Radicle seed node to cope with #Codeberg outages. That does not mean I can push when Codeberg is down. The single-source-of-truth issue is still unclear to me, but downloading a pre-attack version should be possible. Pushing new work during an attack is tricky.

under nixos... will see where that takes me. I would have expected some sort of retro limited gnome option to run by default if the user specified x11 (for a good reason related to hardware).

I keep each machine on its own branch and merge to main when judged safe and pull back main etc. etc. Very kind to share. This is amazing tech.

Hat off to you. In some societies there is a compulsory component of health insurance that insurers for long term care costs and therefore there is indeed a huge care economy. E.g..my son at 18 starts paying compulsory care insurance all his life. Insurance was invented in the UK to rescue families from destitution and all governments seem to prefer complex state admin procedures to funded rights. Yes but they are judging whether the Bundespolizei are allowed to wave through nearly all traffic. There is no victim. There is no crime. There is nothing what so ever that a court can object to. The need for some sort of imminent danger is not for the court to judge. The public should be able to sue the state for NOT controlling borders in case of illegal border crossings. If you find a an Andrioid smartphone (e.g. a lost one or a person who needs help and cannot speak) and the user has saved their emergency contact info in the phone, you can just press on "emergency" on the lock screen and find the stored emergency number immediately.

Great explanation. A patent is more appropriate than copyright (which as the link says does not work when LLM has done the job) because then re-coding in other forms is not going to change the infringement. If the code's technical purpose is patented then the owners of the patent can prevent those who seek to use it in a non-permissive manner from bringing it to market and let those who follow the copyleft philosophy use it for free. Of course patenting each step is too expensive.

Not sure what you mean with Rnode nor what the previous post meant about heltecs but rnode is what lora radio nodes are called in reticulum and heltec devices are supported. e.g. things on https://loramesh.org

I had to check a contract for a house purchase. I OCRed all the documents from the solicitor. Fed it into chatGPT & within 20 seconds it told me this deal was no longer legal by act of parliament, but said there was a way out & I contacted 4 lawyers. None knew of the way out & none told me anything of any more use than ChatGPT. I hope that the little person will, from AI tools, get some power back to protect themselves against legal thickets & not have to rely on toothless quangos.

The DE state (Bund or states) using taxpayer's money to circumvent the free market and provide accommodation for essential workers (police, teachers) because they refuse to pay them enough to use the free market is something that makes my hair stand on end (if I had any).

Question into the void: is there a “menu-style” FOSS #firewall setup for #NixOS —prebuilt profiles with different strictness levels one can apply and test? I’m running #Suricata #IDS, but I don’t have a systematic way to validate #firewallpolicy beyond “tweak until it works.” I’d love a repeatable approach to reach a good protection baseline with minimal site access #breakage .
