@nprofile…v55x Something about one of the moderator's insensitive posts on Reddit. Moderator is gone but it has caused a dozen or so instances to defederate fosstodon. Now it appears fosstodon will be shutdown, although, nothing official yet that I know of. Review Mike Stone's feed.

I'm not understanding why all of us are being punished because of the actions of a fosstodon moderator--who is now gone--on Reddit. With all due respect to the late Aaron Swartz, Reddit has devolved into a platform no better than the Meta properties or the dead bird site. I consider them all the dark web in my world. Techbro / cryptobro billionaire owned stock market traded mass marketing websites to be avoided at all costs.

@nprofile…sh24 Ya, a solid tire sounds right. Still, the bad roads and rocks can take chunks out of them. The Wikipedia article said that in Afghanistan, where he got arrested, his big wheel got crushed and that gunsmiths fixed it and made new spokes for it. I'll say it again--totally nuts!

@nprofile…w4tu Thanks, that makes perfect sense! Ya, I don't thin the fruit at all. I just pick what I need and the rest goes to the birds and ground critters. Fortunately, the garbage bear that wanders around our neighborhood only seems interested in the trees in front yards, not trees in backyards.

@nprofile…sh24 Ya, reading the Wikipedia article I saw that he walked a lot, which is also nuts! I can't image it's very easy to walk a penny-farthing, especially one loaded with items for traveling. I don't know what kind of tires they had, but tire, and perhaps tube maintenance, must have been a real challenge! Spokes as well. After even more adventures the guy ended up marrying and becoming the "manager of the Garrick Theatre in London." Amazing!

@nprofile…sh24 OMG! I had never heard of Stevens or his adventure. That is mind boggling riding around the world on a penny-farthing in the 1880s! I worked in the bicycle industry decades ago & have ridden just about every type of bike made, but I never had a chance to ride a penny-farthing. :( However, I can image the maintenance challenge riding one long distances would pose. Riding one through the tunnels & snowsheds over Donner when there were tracks in there is just nuts.

@nprofile…j58m Good podcast! In 1958, Eureka Times-Standard columnist Andrew Genzoli wrote "Giant footprints puzzle residents along Trinity River," where he coined the term "Bigfoot." In the style of the sagebrush school literary movement of tall tales & hoaxes popularized by Mark Twain, Genzoli wrote the article & followup articles. They sold papers & the wires carried the stories worldwide. In the '70s, Genzoli taught Humboldt Co history at College of the Redwoods where he told us this story.
